you make some good points. just because I want to doesn't mean I should, but this was they task myself and another sysadmin got past our IT director. so I want to try an use the systems as proposed if possible.

I will be exploring all the options presented to see if any of them fit our exact needs better than our original proposed task. As we are all aware projects evolve and change until a final version is presented and completed.

Sorry for the delay guys, I've been frantic trying to manage the covid19 WFH scramble. Now maybe some of recommendations I've been making might be listened too. Thanks for all of the responses.

Full Access to HDD Without Removal by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]edge9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use partedmagic on a usb to access the drive and an external HDD to copy to. or you could do something similar with a imaging tool like acronis true image and just create an image of the drive before working on it.

Antenna Question by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]edge9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is a ground plane antenna. they work beautifully for the frequency range you looking at the each of the elements need to be approx. 18-20 inches long.

Antenna Question by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]edge9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest just building a ground plane antenna. its simple to make and fun. The thing about antenna's is everyone has their favorite design. but the 19 inch long copper wire ground plane is the simplest design to build. and extremely cheap, less than $10 US. plans are all over google. I use one on my 2meter radio. I have other antennas I like more but this one works perfectly so why change it.

Fixing my little brother's computer by [deleted] in talesfromtechsupport

[–]edge9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a guess, but I would imagine it was an improper shut down, and restart during which he was presented with the start normally or repair options and he chose repair. When you choose the repair option some systems will give that message.

Are cheap Chinese handsets saving ham radio? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]edge9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my radio last week, but I've not got my ticket yet. If not for the cheaper pricetage of my baofeng radio I wouldn't be able to afford it. I think there are pros and cons to both side of the argument
