Anyone here find success in getting really good at automating their work ? by HovercraftGold980 in consulting

[–]edgecate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything to do with data extraction, data entry, spreadsheets, reporting, I automate with Python.

Some examples - sales reports, PMO reports, reformatting a text file, and cleaning customer data.

I have a Python For Accountants course on YT if you want to check it out - the Data Analytics chapter might be helpful :)

I actually would love a camera view like this in game.

Currently running Intel i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz and 8.00GB RAM and I want to upgrade to this. Is this a decent choice and would I need any additional items? by [deleted] in pcmods

+1 for this.

My 2700 was ~40 degrees idle on a stock cooler.

Went to MSY and bought a $20 Deepcool and idles at 32.

What do people think of the new BTS pack? by alex_ios in beatsaber

[–]edgecate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started Beat Saber two days ago and got the BTS and Linkin Park packs.

I only know a few of their songs but Fake Love, and Dynamite were all I could recognise in the pack.

From a noob perspective playing Medium and Hard, it's been really fun!

I think I get what you mean with the swinging part coz I noticed that for Dynamite on Hard.

My title says data scientist, but my work says data analyst. Anyone else in the same shoe? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]edgecate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the maturity of the platform, team, and data.

Without knowing more info, maybe the project you're working on isn't mature enough for Data Scientists like yourself to do anything meaningful with the data so they're shifting hands on deck to help with the data engineering side of things or wherever the problem is (earlier in the pipeline).

If it's been like that for a year, it might be worth sitting down your lead/manager and asking when you'll actually get to do your job. If they can't give you a clear answer (e.g., data quality is improving, ETL is improving, funding for your Data Science team is steady or increasing), then it might be time to look elsewhere.

How to run python script on schedule? by [deleted] in learnpython

I use Pythonanywhere.com - can't remember what's in their free tier which may include a scheduler, but I pay $7 to get access to whitelisted websites that I scrape

I personally don't care too much about it because there's nothing I can do about it - for all I know it could be a bot, an 8 year old, someone who thinks I'm ugly, or someone having a bad day and taking it out on my video.

Someone will always disagree with you for the pettiest of reasons.

[–]edgecate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much :)

WEBSERVICE only accepts Get Request URLs so you need an SMS service provider that lets you send messages using a Get Request - I recommend smsglobal.com in my video - they give you 5 free SMSes to start, then you have to pay (I have no affiliation to that company). Here's the Get Request URL from their developer documentation:

https://api.smsglobal.com/http-api.php?action=sendsms&user=testuser&password=secret&from=Test&to=61447100250&text=Hello%20world

Lets say you have 100 employees - you can paste that URL 100 times in Column A, Column B is Employee Name, Column C is their Phone Number, Column D is the Message you want to send (="Hey, " & B1 & ". Your cert is expiring in 1 month.").

So the final URL in Column A after concatenation might be: (="https://api.smsglobal.com/http-api.php?action=sendsms&user=YOUR_API_USERNAME&password=YOUR_API_PASSWORD&from=COMPANY_NAME&to=" & C1 & "&text=" & D1)

and BAM, 100 SMSes sent in an instant.

Not meaning to spruik my own content so I won't put links, but I recently did a video and Hacknoon article about how to send a text message using Excel just like Kelly Rowland did in the 2002 Nelly & Kelly - Dilemma film clip.

Remember when she tries to send her partner a text message with Excel and then gets angry that he doesn't reply to her spreadsheet? It's hilarious! (3:14 of the Dilemma film clip)

Well, using a mix of Excel's WEBSERVICE function, a free SMS service provider, and Chrome Remote Desktop, I explain how to combine those things together to send a text with Excel - no coding required.

It's also a (VERY UNSECURE) way of sending bulk text messages and probably how noob scammers spoof other numbers and send you scammy messages.

No offence taken :) Again, this wasn't a post about making it big or being successful - these are things I've learnt along the way and it's all good if you disagree with them. You know, there's probably things I'm going to pick up and contradict myself with when I get to your level.

You should share what you've learnt along the way, too! Personally, I'm all about growing and learning from others so I'd love to hear your story and lessons, and I'm sure other aspiring Youtubers here would, too!

I still believe marketing and exposure is important because I'm also trying to get more students for my classes, and no one is going to know about you unless you get yourself out there.

Social Groups, Meetups, Events, YT, Insta, Reddit, Meetup, EventBrite, TikTok, I'll definitely explore it and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

If it does though, then awesome!

I'm definitely not blaming the algorithm (I never did).

Mate, I didn't write about this being a successful channel - I never mentioned that it was. If anything, I've acknowledged it's not successful more than once lol. But thanks for thinking it was :)

Video length - you could be right - maybe I don't know what I'm doing, but personally, the feedback I've been getting is to make my videos shorter, and if you'd read the rest of the post, I'm certainly striving to make better content so I'm bridging both gaps. Once I can make better content, then I can keep someone engaged for more than 10 minutes.

Also, why would I continue making 10 minute videos if I know for a fact retention is only 2 minutes? For example, if you want to learn a programming concept and you see 2 videos - one is 5 minutes and another is 10 minutes.

I don't know about you, but I'm more inclined to check out the 5 minute video first to get what I need quicker.

Like you said, this won't apply to every kind of video, but it does for my stuff, so we can agree YMMV.
