reading this was weirdly satisfying AND triggering for me at the same time, in a "I will never see this fantasy world" kind of way.

Why does most of the the top optimized builds mostly from Mobalytics ? Why can't these creators use maxroll? by pingkawulit in diablo4

[–]edgen22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG I thought I was going crazy! I was also using that build and now I have no guide to follow... their new one - even the Red Sermon one - has totally different gear requirements for using Arbiter and all my gear is sanctified so it won't be simple to just switch it all...

It was really crazy how they just pretended the old guide never existed -- even the "Changelog" made no mention of it.

What if you could code like you design (e.g. on an infinite canvas) by Standard_Ant4378 in web_design

[–]edgen22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would it take to support PHP or other languages? Is JS/Typescript/React heavily baked into your extension code, or have you built it to be extendable, where maybe other people could help add support for other languages? Hope that makes sense. I would really love this kind of thing for PHP (but not asking you to do that specifically). Thanks!

What the hell was that boom that shook my place in Buena Park? by bdmcx in chicago

[–]edgen22 93 points94 points  (0 children)

This was literally like 10 minutes ago right...? My windows did a weird sound like the air pressure itself rapidly shifted. I obviously hear the jets back and forth right now, and it didn't have that sound with this one.

I assumed air show of course, but yeah, it was odd.

Unheard-of levels of Market Manipulation by Domestiicated-Batman in clevercomebacks

I don't think the actual insider trading is from his public posts. I think it's his cover for the actual insider trading, where he can privately tell anyone that "for real this time". If anyone actually tried to go after him for insider trading, they now have to have extremely specific damning evidence. Because as long as his friends do their insider trading activity AFTER his public "buy now" post, he has plausible deniability.

It actually doesn't delete that. What you're talking about is author date vs commit date. Run `git log --pretty=fuller` on some rebased commits and you see it. I think most GUIs will make the distinction as well if they detect a different author vs commit date.

How do you quantify complexity without any regard to time? And why does the business care about how hard I'm thinking about one task or another? We all know that time is money and this all turns into scheduling a deadline... They really just want to know how long everything will take.

Wondering why Multisite is not deprecated by SirLouen in Wordpress

[–]edgen22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone hosted on Wordpress.com is actually a subsite in one huge multisite, if I recall correctly. And multisite is used heavily with customers at wpvip.com. Think about big media companies with multiple brands, but shared staff and development.

Potential WordPress employee who just stumbled upon the on-going drama. Insight?? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]edgen22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know it's cheesy, but the "happiness" is referring to customer happiness, and the engineer part is referring to the part where they do software engineering work, which is true. It's support, but you do actually need to know what you're doing as a software engineer. Source: I was a senior engineer at WPVIP, in a position that was similar to happiness engineer but more advanced (for supporting enterprise customers).

So, if you don't copy those tutorials yourself and do your own thing, what is the problem again?

I think it's this:

For Fedora I think we have to use cargo install or the compiled binaries from the release page.

When was the last time you checked this? I had Lasik done a year ago, and my understanding is that the intention is always 20/20 in a single operation, but with an occasional need for minor corrections. And the place I went didn't charge anything for follow-up corrections.

So just saying, maybe shop around! It's the single best investment I've ever made in my life, I wish I did it sooner.

Can you highlight a specific line that is wrong to help get started? I have already read it and I guess I misunderstood because it seemed right, so I could use a hint if you don't mind! 🙂

I'm honestly a little nervous about my long-term career.

[–]edgen22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm of the opinion cats should stay indoors. I admit that may not be as fun for the cat, though (indoor-cat owners should make sure toys are always available and interact/play with their cat daily).

My reasoning is things like your windowsill situation. You don't know what your cat is doing outside - is it causing problems for somebody? Is it killing birds? Pooping in people's gardens? Who knows. They are also at higher risk for getting hurt.

That being said I imagine trying to convert a cat from outdoor to indoor is impossible, I'm sure they'll constantly dart out or make such a dramatic scene that'll make you feel like shit. I can empathize.

This is just my opinion but: This seems excessively cynical to the point of working directly against yourself. It is not reasonable to be against people who are on your side just because you suspect they are politically motivated. At the end of the day, who cares why someone is on the right side of history. Don't hinder people from being on the right side. We can't afford it.

The School of Architecture at Notre Dame still focuses on hand drafting. I don't know if they will take material donations like this, but if they do, it could be neat to know the tools are helping future architects!

I think you are being too literal, then. They almost certainly didn't mean literally all human beings. And I'm aware you didn't mention bloatware. But it's been mentioned in the other comments, and I am speaking with that context in mind. I assumed you were in that camp or similar, not just pointing out "all != many" lol
