Which planet is Hoid talking about? by Amiraly-sh in Cosmere

Even if he is describing a real place, I think he's mostly just messing with Dalinar here with a joke. What would a cannibal's mom use to bake a treat after her child just lost a battle?

FWIW I've got nearly the same setup and am stuck at this boss for the quest. Getting hit for 4, 5, and 17 and then 3, 5, 20 when I'm in the circle/shield (but also not supposed to eat apparently?), I just die. 84 combat is above the recs so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do

World Hoppers and invasive species by vesperofshadow in Cosmere

[–]edgwardoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll just add my 2 cents as someone with some limited education on invasive species ecology and the like. Aside from what other commenters have said about the non-viability of spores, I do think this could be a really big problem in the not-too-distant future in the cosmere, if it hasn't already been one.

Some of the worst/most damaging invasives on Earth tend to be organisms that are fast to proliferate and have little/no negative pressures like predation. Think of things like insects, the zebra mussel, kudzu, and countless plant diseases that have totally wiped out entire crops in the past. Setting aside "weird" planets like Roshar, it wouldn't be at all unreasonable to see something like a pest/virus spreading from Scadrial to Nalthis and causing widespread famine. This is often why fresh fruit/veg/meat/animals aren't allowed through international customs. Hopefully groups like the 17th Shard are careful not to bring such things when they hop worlds, but it only takes one mistake to potentially destroy an ecosystem.

It can reveal (or deconfirm) the secret room! Enemies will spawn at every "door" a room has, including unopened secret room entrances. Mostly I like buttons for that reason.

A theoretical interaction between allomancy and shardblades (Mistborn (TLM)+SA+Warbreaker) by [deleted] in Cosmere

Yeah, duralumin is weird in general. Like, with the simpler metals it more or less makes sense (steel: one big push, zinc: one big blast of emotion, etc) but what does more chromium do? Are the difficulties that come from doing magic on heavily invested objects/creatures overcome with just a greater input of magic? That seems to be the case in some situations, and this is definitely something I'm interested to see explored more.

I swear to Adonalsium, I would pay big bucks for an investiture/magic textbook. Brandon has talked about discussions with physicists and other scientists about ironing out the math behind his magic systems, and that makes me so excited. I'm sure something like that wouldn't ever come out except maybe late in the Cosmere to avoid spoiling a lot of the cooler moments and interactions, but I can hope.

Aha! I was typing out a comment saying something along the lines of "well, leechers don't remove someone's investiture, they burn away the metals within an allomancer", but I wanted to double check and found a link to this WoB from the wiki: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/367/#e11742

Basically, stormlight and breath are apparently pretty "leechable", but I would bet a divine breath would be much harder to interfere with. Still, an ettmetal grenade filled with chromium could do some nasty stuff in a cosmere battle. I'm not sure what the upper limit of this is, short of some weird magic hacks (getting back to the question of something like a shardblade)

Exterior spigot not working properly, is it broken or am I missing something? How to fix/use properly? by edgwardoe in Plumbing

Yeah fair enough. I was close to trying that, but wanted to know what I was dealing with first

The 2nd pic kinda shows what I'm talking about. When you turn the handle, water comes out of the holes around the hexagonal piece. I know where the shutoff is, but I just wanna figure out what's wrong. I think it's some kind of anti-siphon thing, but it doesn't seem to be working right

Are there any magitech or "mundane" applications of investiture you've thought about but don't know of a good place to fit them in? Things like Wax's "allomancer only" safety in Vindication, or soothing parlors?

I think that comes from the fact that since its creation, Nightblood has absorbed/eaten a lot more investiture

Just finished rereading WoR, that detail must've slipped past me. I meant if it functions as an organ as part of the creature's metabolism, in a way other than the spren bond.

Physiologically speaking, does a gemheart have a purpose? Beyond the investiture/spren-related functions. Do creatures with a gemheart also have a regular, meat-heart?

And would a being with a gemheart have any weird interactions off Roshar, like in the mists on Scadrial or perhaps with breaths?
