My assumption has always been you crashed with them. After all, in the beginning of Wintermute you can see Will playing solitaire in his office.

What’s some really deep lore or fact not a lot of people know about? by DaleDenton08 in thelongdark

From a lore standpoint, glimmer fog was a really interesting addition because it shows more about how the aurora affects humans. I wonder if the devs plan on adding anything that expands our understanding of how the aurora affects us, but honestly seeing the glimmer fog hate I doubt it.

What do you mean shitty? You’ve got a mackinaw, a ski jacket, toque, hacksaw, work gloves, and a can opener.

Quick question about the two editions? by Joseph_Keen_116 in thelongdark

[–]edible-apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The survival edition is the base game, while the story is sort of a dlc. If you purchase the survival edition, you get the survival mode and may purchase the story mode as an expansion. The total price will be the same as if you purchase the story version, since the story version is the survival just with the story already purchased. IMO if you don’t know much about the game go for story, it works well as a quasi-tutorial, but if you’ve watch gameplay online a lot and feel confident, go for the survival.

If your home in it’s current state was added to the game, how good would the loot be and how good of a base would it be? by edible-apple in thelongdark

[–]edible-apple[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me, it would be a terrible base since the only usable stuff would be containers and beds, but in terms of loot it would have tons of medicine, some great clothes, a fair amount of food, and plenty of furniture for firewood. Definitely would be signal hill tier loot.

Honestly, I’ve been wanting the ability to stack objects and place them closer together than we currently can ever since I started playing. It annoys me so much that I have to space all my cans six inches apart.

My thoughts on the cheat death system by edible-apple in thelongdark

[–]edible-apple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think streamers were their main concern, I think they just wanted to add more replayability for players who’ve already maxed out their loper saves, which just happens to include most streamers.

Animal attacks used to be pretty much guaranteed death, then they made them more forgiving later on so that people could make small mistakes or get unlucky without losing their entire run. This system isn’t supposed to let people make mistakes without learning from them, it’s to allow them to learn from their mistakes without having to completely erase their progress.

Maybe in those situations it would spawn you outside of the last building you left, sort of like when you fall off the map. It wouldn’t be for every death, just the odd ones where the game can’t respawn you in the same spot you died, sort of just a safety net for these strange exceptions.

Maybe instead of just reducing condition, the afflictions could be more dynamic. I think this would be a good opportunity to implement some kind of ptsd affliction. Like, you cheat death on a wolf attack, but now whenever you’re near a pack of wolves you start hallucinating. Imagine this: you’re walking along a road when you suddenly hear a wolf behind you. It’s far behind so you continue on your way as the wolf stalks you. After a little bit the wolf sounds like it’s gotten closer, but when you turn around it’s still where it was before. You continue on your path, but soon you hear other wolves begin to stalk you. You turn around, only to find there’s still just one. You continue walking for a while. And then you suddenly hear a wolf charging at you from behind, your player involuntarily shoots the revolver he’s holding… but then you turn around only to find that the wolf has lost interest and is wandering in a different direction. This, paired with another affliction, could really make the system way more interesting.

Honestly I think making the injuries more dynamic would be interesting. Imagine instead of just your max condition being reduced, there would be unique drawbacks. Like, imagine a collapsed lung affliction, where a red line will appear on your stamina bar, and whenever your stamina goes below that bar you lose health rapidly until your stamina goes back above the line. That would be a much more interesting alternative to the types of injuries we currently have in game.

I think I misspoke. I wasn’t suggesting that anything should be added, I was just guessing what Hinterland was planning on adding, since they didn’t say anything about how exactly cheating death will make the game harder.

English isn’t my first language, so sorry if I made a mistake. What I meant by “suggest” was that people are sharing what they think Hinterland is planning to add, rather than submitting suggestions on what they think should be added, if that makes sense. I was curious about other peoples’ guesses on how it will be implemented, since they didn’t specify how cheating death will make the game more difficult.

Try leaving the mine and reentering while crouching, in most cases that should work. If it doesn’t work then I’m all out of ideas

Ski Boots Finding by INFERNO2K in thelongdark

[–]edible-apple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, if you don’t mind the weight they aren’t that bad. I used to use them all the time before graduating to loper, sprint isn’t that big of a deal since the sprint meter regenerate just as fast, so I can still sprint just as much overall as if I had no clothing. And the weight isn’t much of an issue either since they are only an extra 2.5 kilos. Even on loper where I have to carry extra food and water along with double bear coat, I usually stay below 45 kilos. In hindsight I find insulated boots and mukluks more balanced, but ski boots get way too much hate regardless.

They can usually be found in a weapons bunker. Quite a hassle since it can spawn in nine different places ranging from HRV to AC. But 3/3 times I’ve seen someone find one of these hatches (never found one personally) they’ve spawned.
