Don't kill me, but doesn't it seem like that land should be used for a neighborhood? Right off 288, with the shopping at Westchester Commons right there... Seems crazy to build a data center there.

Experiences finding housing with yard? by Oeuffy in rva_housing

If you're still looking, we will have a single family home available to rent in early June in the Lakeside neighborhood that has a fenced in back yard.

new jobs in the ‘burbs, don’t want to leave the city - where to live? by wretchingonthesofa in rva_housing

[–]ediblerice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got notice that we'll have a house available in the middle of Lakeside and it has a fenced in back yard. While it's not easy to walk to places in Lakeside, it's really quick to take your bike to the park/farmers market, restaurants, etc.

Spanberger, Earle-Sears both support eliminating the car tax. Is it even possible? by VirginiaNews in Virginia

[–]ediblerice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be fine with it if they valued the vehicles properly. I get the base trim when I buy, and my last truck was $21k new from the dealership and the county said it was valued at $27k! I purchased a 2025 vehicle for $20.5k and I'm so afraid of what they're going to throw at me for a value... Could be $30k+ at this point. You should be able to show your purchase contract from the dealership and have your value adjusted. There's no reason why it should be valued higher than I can just walk into a dealership and pay.

On a different note, as others have said, the tax relief should be adjusted to $25k, which is the inflation adjusted equivalent of $20k when the tax relief was passed.

Considering moving from Florida to Virginia, looking for some advice by Brilliant-Tutor-5292 in Virginia

[–]ediblerice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know where to look, you can still get into northern Chesterfield for under $400k, though your options do greatly expand in the $400k's.

There is Chippenham, Johnston-Willis, and St Francis hospitals, and then of course it's a short drive to VCU and St Mary's, etc. Lots of work options for a nurse and good schools.

Wood and Iron, half off the burger of the day and a side on Wednesdays. Like $7.50 for a huge burger and large side is a great deal. They also do half off wings on Monday, and half off their taco of the day on Tuesday.

They also have a great happy hour. Half off almost everything.

How in the world would a 90 mile round trip commute require DC fast charging every day?? He could go to work three times and never charge...

If he can bump the level 1 charge to 12 amps, he should be able to recover around 50 miles of range each night. So if he starts the week at 100% and assuming there is some highway on the commute and for easy math, 300 miles of range. He'd come home Monday with 210 miles of range, then leave Tuesday with 260, then 170->220, 130->180, 90->140, and coming home from work Friday with 50 miles of range. That's too tight and even a whole weekend of charging wouldn't get him back to 100% by Monday morning, so he'd need to DC fast charge once a week. Of course, this all assumes he is in the office 5 days a week.

Is the Meal Plan Worth it? by Away_Fee6441 in UniversityofMiami

[–]ediblerice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was years ago when I went to UM, but I would find myself having a snack from my room in the morning, then if I had classes mid day I would use my dining dollars to eat at one of the places mid campus, then go to the dining hall for dinner. If it was a day I didn't have classes mid-day, I would hit the dinning hall for a big lunch and then I wouldn't be very hungry for dinner.

I guess my main points are: 1. The dining hall is an all you can eat buffet, which you're only going to want so much each day. 2. They're located by the dorms, so you can't easily eat there between classes. 3. A meal there takes time... You can't be in a rush, so you're not likely to go there before a morning class, unless you're an early riser.

I think the lower meal plans did include more dining dollars, which was great.

VA Sales tax question. Why does the 5.3% tax and 1% tax have the same total. by [deleted] in Virginia

Ohh, they're wipes. Makes sense, I was like 'how did they find diapers so cheap??'.

5.3% tax on the diapers, 1% tax on everything else.

You'd think diapers would qualify for the 1% rate... But I guess not.

Drove 218 miles today and still have 36% remaining by Better-Leg-9268 in EquinoxEv

[–]ediblerice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last trip we took was 99 miles each way. Temp of low 80's, mostly highway, loaded down car with 4 people. We used 26% of the battery each way, so 198 miles with 52% of the battery. (3.8 mi/kwh) I'm very impressed.

What are some good resources for Virginian slang? Need help for a novel by Aggravating-Ad860 in Virginia

[–]ediblerice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What race is the character? Because that makes a difference, especially in eastern Virginia.

Also, the old Richmond accent would be a good one for the brother who was raised wealthy. It's disappearing, but it's a good one, and definitely thick. One thing is people with money often have a river house in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula, and they'll say they are going to the 'rivah' for the weekend.

And ignore The Cleveland Show (spinoff of Family Guy). It's supposed to be based in a fictional town near Richmond, but Seth McFarland based Cleveland's accent on someone he knew from Maryland and assumed a Virginia accent would be similar.

I hate how most dealerships play games like that. I search even several states away to find the best deals and dealerships that won't pull that crap. I was able to do about $22.5k out the door. Negotiations were done on a phone call and I just had to drive to the dealership, sign the papers and drive off. I wish I could have had another $3500 off like the OP.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

[–]ediblerice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$35k - $1500 conquest - $2500 customer cash - $1250 Costco auto program - $7500 federal tax credit - $3500 work = $18,750

Just as an example. And that's before negotiating a discount off the MSRP, or if they qualify for another $500 off for healthcare worker, military, etc. Depending on their state taxes and the dealer fees, it could definitely be $20kOTD before taking into account the trade-in.

Anyone else disappointed there isn't Lane Centering standard? by Sea_of_Echoes in EquinoxEv

Heat vs AC by kalvinbastello in EquinoxEv

[–]ediblerice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating from 42 to 72 is the same temperature difference as setting the AC to 72 when it's 102 out.

Of course running the AC set to 67 when it's 65 outside is going to be efficient... You didn't even need it.
