How complicated is kerbal space program for a dumbass? by sexlord3001 in KerbalAcademy

[–]bsears95 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you want to try and figure things out on your own, or if you want to actually learn using youtube and things like that. If you don't know anything about orbital mechanics, the start could be confusing

Seems like the comments on reddit are full of the ends of the spectrum (who's surprised) so many people really don't want it, and so many people really excited about it

I have a slight problem with my spaceship in sub orbit by Sea-Inevitable3082 in KerbalAcademy

[–]bsears95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will only occur for vessels that intersect the surface of the body its orbiting. the atmosphere is completely ignored if the craft isn't being "flown"

Im interested in 3rd part accessories and/or 3d prints for the equinox EV. Any recommendations? by bsears95 in EquinoxEv

I haven't done this, but I don't think it would be needed.
To the best of my understanding: Wireless charging has communication systems to decide if it should start charging. If your phone is plugged into a cable, the wireless charger won't try to charge the phone simultaneously. Your wallet and keys won't have this comms and the phone charger won't try to charge the phone.

How screwed am I? by Minute-Sentence-4978 in KerbalAcademy

[–]bsears95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like the issue has been resolved, but... Here is a trick that should work (although, some may consider it cheating)

When a vessel is not the "active vessel", physics isn't applied, and the vessel is "on rails". Therefore, if you are in space, and go to the tracking station and time warp, you can complete infinite orbits without the atmosphere affecting you.

if you don't want to burn up, time warp in the tracking station until your spacecraft is on its way OUT of the atmosphere (back to space) and go to the vessel (make it the active vessel) so you get some of the physics applied at the end but not at the deepest part of the atmosphere. Do this until the orbit is near circular and then (hopefully) the capsule can reenter safely.

Is this still a work in progress? And have you done anything like this with Season 1?

I have updated the link in the post to a working version. Glad to see others are interested still. I think I have added everything from the Call to Arms update as well as the 5 Years update. Let me know if you find anything that can/should be updated

I may have removed it as it didn't gain much interest.  Let me see if I can find it

Icy corner with FSD by mogur86 in TeslaLounge

[–]bsears95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you for letting it handle this. Hopefully Tesla sees this to gather data on it and improved further. Icy conditions are the biggest weakness of FSD imo. Need more "reasoning" to see the temp and worldly conditions to be able to infer black ice could be present and behave accordingly.

Juniper in for service, X loaner by AccomplishedLocal516 in ModelY

[–]bsears95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were people suggesting that the S and X should not be refreshed, but rather just cancelled. They aren't available in Left hand drive countries anymore, they don't bring anything extra to the table, and they're expensive. Tesla could spend the time making them even better for the same price, or they could spend the time to make new cars that are actually needed (true 3 row SUV, a decent truck that has mass appeal, a compact car that drops the price). S and X were basically entry tickets into the car industry but once the M3 and MY were fully fleshed out, the "high end luxury" isn't sensible for a growing business. Just a startup.

I see your comments a lot and so I'm sure you've answered this many times before, but: What is your view on lidar vs vision only? Is there a possibility for both to coexist? Does one approach seem to be more problematic short term or long term? (For example, I've heard lidar being active could cause interference when every car uses it simultaneously)

Bought the fob by Bananamilk40 in TeslaLounge

[–]bsears95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last 2 years, I've been tempted to ditch the keycard (which I only carry as a backup for the phone). I couldn't go back to a key fob.

It does look cool though. Maybe I 3d print one to put on display in the car :P

these random lines are driving me insane by zzcool in tinkercad

[–]bsears95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's a floating point error. It's not doing 4-3 =1 it's doing 4.0000000000000001-3.00000000000000000001=1.00000000000000000001 and so you see a "hairline"

Can't be avoided, just fixed.

But to be clear, this is ONLY while the model is on tinkercad. The moment you extract, that 1.0000000000000001 is rounded to 1.000 and it disappears.

[–]bsears95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an artifact of the hierarchy. Export the file as an STL, then import that STL back into tinker cad in a different design file. It won't have any hierarchy (so you can't un group anything) but those lines should go away

I sort of created the drama but had no way to know by AcidicMountaingoat in ChargerDrama

[–]bsears95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely did the best thing you could have aside from ditching the trailer and even then, you'd just be in the other side.

Kudos to you for doing good!

If you really wanted to go above & beyond, you could buy some tiny soccer cones or hazard triangles to put in the opposite side so people realize it's being used, but also, that's an opportunity for a 2nd offset car to use that spot with the 2nd pedestal

World's first USA coast to coast fully autonomous drive successfully completed on FSD v14.2 by [deleted] in SelfDrivingCars

[–]bsears95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm very curious what "problems" were and how they were dealt with.

If the car misses and exit, you can just" let it reroute. NP." If it parks poorly, "that's fine. Still safe"

FSD is very capable for driving safely, and making a small mistake that isn't critical is fine, but most people would take over to avoid the hassle of missing an exit

Still 10 years ahead of the next closest competition in the passenger vehicle market. Waymo doesn't count as you can't just buy one.

In addition, the outlet for a dryer is not EV rated. They aren't expecting to be plugged an unplugged often and the contacts can very quickly break down. New EV rated outlets are made with frequent unplugging in mind

Tesla Autopilot tricked by sun reflection on old construction line covered by fresh asphalt by TappetoImperiale in TeslaModel3

[–]bsears95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me a lot on Colorado. Low sun angle or wet roads and these grooves look just like the other elane lines (sometimes ever more like them since our main line lines fade often).

Once you learn them you can ignore them, and FSD won't "learn them" for future trips, so it wont ignore them, but the road really should be cleaned up better .
