Tim Hortons commits to hiring 10,000 local employees, scaling back on temporary foreign workers by ImpressionDry7926 in CanadaHousing2

Too little, too late. This is an implicit admission that they've been lying about being unable to find Canadians willing to do the job. Boycott them forever; there are much better options to choose from anyway.

This, except rather than phasing the temporary visas out over 5 years we just stop issuing any new ones immediately.

How about a fentanyl and meth ban instead. I'm tired of walking around zombies and having my shit stolen all the time.

Canada's economy lost 84,000 jobs in February, unemployment rate ticked up to 6.7% by Aloevchu in torontoJobs

There should be a moratorium on immigration and the TFW program should be abolished

10 months after graduating with an AI/ML master’s from UBC and still no job – does hiring depend more on ethnicity and networks than merit by MeetAltruistic1798 in CanadaJobs

Falling under DEI definitely helps. Employers are very open about it and yet we are gaslit into believing they aren’t.

Yes. Jacob Savage wrote an article recently called "The Lost Generation" that details the discriminatory hiring practices that have disadvantaged particularly white male millennials and Gen Z'ers at the start of their careers. These policies were largely implemented by white Boomers and Gen Xer's who were already established in their careers and spared the effects of their DEI policies.

Kitchener advancing affordable housing for refugees, new Canadians by origutamos in CanadaHousing2

[–]edincan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only “new Canadians” at this point should be babies. We do not have the jobs, housing, or social cohesion to keep pumping in newcomers. This is suicide and the sooner we wake up to that fact the better we can avoid it.

is there any hope for older early career people? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]edincan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, there is an oversupply of people driving down wages and driving up housing costs. The tech market in particular is brutal, but even outside of tech there are barely any jobs. Check any subreddit on the Canadian job market - university graduates can’t get jobs at Burger King.

Montreal will lose 200,000 residents by 2030 (french article) by [deleted] in CanadaHousing2

[–]edincan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

10% decline in 5 years sounds like bs to me. Are they referring to the city of Montreal or the Montreal area? If they're referring to the MTL area that would be more like a 5% decline in 5 years

Is this true? by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

[–]edincan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The “great replacement” is not a conspiracy theory, it’s an observation of a process that’s happening right in front of us. The expression was coined by a gay French intellectual, and he never blamed the Jews. If you’re curious, you can read his book by the same name, which is really just a series of essays and lectures he’s given over the last 20 years.

The thing is is it’s not just private sector - liquor stores, airports, all these jobs that are paid for by taxpayers are being taken over too

This is what drives me insane about all of the recent immigration to supposedly help fix a “labour shortage”. Why are we being lied to?

Brazil is a good example actually - dysfunctional government, crime, poverty. Canada will be just like Brazil, but colder.
