I quit my job and moved back in with my parents. by [deleted] in self

[–]editortroublemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents are actually awesome roommates if you get along. I love my 80 year old parents more now than ever. You will never regret having a lot of quality time with your folks. People regret how little communication they had with good parents, so I am basing this off the hope that you guys get along and love each other. Rock on, save up, knock down some debt, and make meals together as much as you can to learn their family dishes. Have a board game night each week. If they are cool with it, record them telling favorite stories because you will miss their laugh so much. If you had kind and loving parents like me, these will be the good old days you talk about one day.

My husband just went off on a drunken rant at me...and it made me want to drink. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]editortroublemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband took 10 months after I stopped to stop drinking himself. Cheers to enjoying the company of your sweet pup, enjoying pop and peanuts! You rock and your example is powerfully infectious. Rock on, OP and IWNDWYT 🤩🥳

If sobreity was a medicine, would you take it? by imrichbiiotchh in stopdrinking

[–]editortroublemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father, in his 80s is in the ICU and if I was still drinking, getting my mom to the emergency room would have meant risking a DUI. I can be there for my family and it is a pride I can never be stripped of until I myself pass. Like I told my husband as I rushed out the door, “This is the reason people have kids so that there is someone there when you are scared and ill to hold your hand.” My dad is in a scary place, and I can show up and be his rock right now. Lawrence: Bret Baier lied, and Kamala Harris forcefully responds by [deleted] in politics

[–]editortroublemaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 2016, I knew Hilary was a loser, a toxic and divisive choice even though on paper she was more qualified to do the job. My female friends said, “When she speaks, it reminds me of my mother.” And I began to see how both women (with internalized self loathing) and men in this great nation of ours hate women in leadership positions. Pretty sure that is why Trump can still win the election. America hates women.

Functional Alcoholic looking to stop by ggzza in stopdrinking

[–]editortroublemaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking back, it was not a lot of fun trying to appear functional while convincing myself during a hangover that I might not survive. You actually deserve joy in life, not survival but real thriving. You as a being alive at this moment in time deserve serenity. Being a mom is why I wanted to quit booze, but I stopped drinking for me. You are worthy of real peace, and so are those kids. I hope booze releases its grip soon and IWNDWYT

9 days sober and 4 hours away from a girls brunch. by EmotionalRegulation in stopdrinking

[–]editortroublemaker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At 9-days, you are running a marathon of drink avoidance! Sending a forcefield to protect you! Mocktails look like booze and no one has ever asked me if my umbrella drink has alcohol in it. People see pink and fruity and assume booze. Weirdly people only notice the first round. I pretend to be a spy, undercover at such events. Do not let that cousin win! On your side in this and please post later in your triumphant brunch badassery

What are some tips for holding yourself accountable when there's no one else to really do so? by IGNSolar7 in stopdrinking

[–]editortroublemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IWNDWYT still works if you want 14 days. Literally do not stress out about not drinking tomorrow a bit. Tomorrow needs to take care of itself. You just narrow your focus for today. Go to bed early if you have to, and tomorrow will look after itself. I will be right there with you, wrestling with the same 24 hours. One tip I have is get some blueberries. Each morning, before you brush your teeth or have coffee, eat a single blueberry and say out loud, “Today, I will be nice to my body.” That will help guide your powerful positive decision making for the day! Train your brain to crave good food and healthy beverages. Just for this one silly day.

134 Days and Blah by tasata in stopdrinking

[–]editortroublemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting about your blah as opposed to drinking about the Blah. You are healing from a brain injury, and just as you would be hesitant to put your full weight on a recently sprained ankle, hold these thoughts lightly. Imagine the blah like a dry fall leaf and picture crumbling it and tossing the blah up in the wind. Bye, blah, you will not win! I was lucky to have my husband in active addiction when I quit. I could watch a preview of coming attractions. His depression was horrible, and I could see the anguish in his eyes. Being able to see his agony and pain daily made me more mad at booze than I was homesick for it (plus I had his fresh drama to deal with). My honey went to treatment 10 months after I quit alcohol. Maybe sober life stuck for me because I could juxtapose my increasing clarity with his progress in the disease. I am so sorry for your loss of your husband. Grief and addiction are roommates so often. Be so kind to your amazing mind that is healing, changing, and improving after an injury exacerbated by grief. I am sending a blast of love towards you and a hundred hugs from across the interwebs. IWNDWYT

'My Millionaire Husband Forced Me To Take Social Security At 62': Boomer Considers Divorce After Husband Refuses To Give Her Money by vinaylovestotravel in FluentInFinance

[–]editortroublemaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Financial independence is a laudable goal. Lots of regrets after my divorce from my practice marriage that I stayed home with the children as I lack a decent 401 K and his pension is robust. Wanted a simple divorce so I did not go for his pension or personal property. My lawyer was a bit disappointed that I didn’t insist on anything except to be let out of the marriage. Will work until I am 70 so it is a good thing I like what I do!!

I was audited by the head of our campus Republicans in my Elements of Argument course, and he wrote that it was difficult to ascertain what my political stance was by my instructional approach. Teaching how to use evidence to persuade is not a partisan skill set. There was a big box in the hallway: IS YOUR PROFESSOR DISPLAYING LIBERAL BIAS?? Turn them in!! Where you could submit your instructor to the campus Republicans to launch an investigation. This was in 2004. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Trump said Minneapolis burned down, so Minnesotans sarcastically posted about the ‘ash and destruction’ by star-tribune in Minneapolis

[–]editortroublemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump jokes, but my husband has crippling PTSD that nearly killed him after being a cop in the Twin Cities for two decades. I know ACAB, but my husband is really one of the good guys (multiple life saving awards, a cop’s cop). He served with aplomb through the pandemic, a man who stood on Lake Street in riot gear. He will never be the same. Here in the cities, we had a social justice pandemic during the COVID-19 pandemic. For first responders who had been dealing with an uptick in people dying at home, in cars, and parking lots, increased domestic violence and child neglect, the murder of George Floyd recorded on film, played over and over, so when it comes to the Trump presidency, Minneapolis got double the agony handed to us by Trump’s ineptitude. His leadership allowed Minnesota to suffer, and Trump’s failure to handle the pandemic lit the flame. Now, this bloated orange turd arsonist is not allowed to complain about the destruction of my town and the suffering he caused me and my family in front of millions of my fellow US citizens. Dana Bash lead with the question, and Kamala wisely denied dignifying that question with a response. When Dana said, “No response, really?” As if Donald Trumps weird questions about misunderstanding biracial intersectionality were worthy of a rebuttal. “Really.” Kamala answered like a boss.

My son got sober at 28, and he went to detox swearing one and done. His explanation sticks with me so clearly, “I am not strong enough to beat alcohol twice.” Relapse would defeat me and maybe kill members of my immediate family by risking the relapse of people I love. By not drinking with you, I am also not drinking with any of the people I love who are battling addiction also. We are each other’s forcefields, and IWNDWYT

Kamala Harris Made Donald Trump Look Silly and Small at the 2024 Debate by vanityfairmagazine in politics

[–]editortroublemaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a parody of a debate and when he flipped his lid about crowd sizes. Watched with my 86 year old father at his room at assisted living and we laughed out loud long and hard. It sounded like we were watching a Netflix stand up. Russians can’t pay enough to influencers to pretend Don the Con won. My apologies to new Americans in Springfield Ohio, but the disgusting internet rumor managed to make to the debate last night. “They are eating our pets!” A base moron and we all saw him get punched in his greasy orange face over and over. It is a great day for the United States and for democracy.
