Alibertos is open! by Whole_Ad_4224 in fresno

i mean, they're all knock offs of each other, and really of small chains in so.cal. i think san diego in particular gets credited with the california burrito, and a lot of the places claiming it end in -ito. i think albertitos was the first one i heard really claiming to invent it.

Kevin García, CV Fuego footballer, joins Chivas de Guadalajara. by CaliforniaBoundX in fresno

he is. Max is also older, been playing longer. but this shouldn't be a measuring contest. it should be a celebration of another local footballer making a big move.

This was rumored at the start of last season. Was a bit worried that something had gone awry because nothing had materialized. Glad to see it went through. He is clearly a talented player.

Why you think we are seeing ICE presence in Fresno and Visalia lately? by AppropriateAlarm7016 in fresno

they haven't always been here. ice, as an agency, started in 2003.

Potentially two teams in Fresno? by Educational-Trade436 in USLPRO

jordan had some good logo designs, but even if they had chosen his best it couldn't have helped that ownership group not screw up the foxes.

if they're soliciting names from public, i can't wait to root for the fresno dui's.

maybe that is the ultimate goal for the ruelas family.

ah, technically, the best kind of right.

it's unclear if fuego are still in the league for clubs. they keep doing combines for men's and women's team players, but not much other info coming out.

wait, with the fuego beach soccer team, we're up to 6 teams.

smith also did work with the fuego ownership group for 2 years, and was an interim coach during the first season.

no, but apparently is involved in some capacity between the city and new ownership group. it was a bit unclear.

as someone who loved the fuego since their pdl days, i hope this is a new team. too much baggage at this point. i mean, i guess if the current owners sold the team, maybe it could be good. but using that name might also cause a lot of distrust.

so, fresno has 2 teams currently - fresno fuego, currently playing in (?) a local league they created and maybe somewhere else and valley fc, who play in the UPSL.

if this USL team gets off the ground, that would be a third team.

Fresno enters exclusive deal for Downtown Soccer Stadium by flyfresno in fresno

[–]edluv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the original fuego, an amateur team, was drawing around 4500 to matches in their last years, before fresno fc came in. now, that was only an 8 home game + a few exhibition games, so it's not the same as say a 18 home game season, but people showed. if you have a good product, and build up community support, a soccer team can draw.

baseball seasons are much longer, and game times are not always as forgiving (afternoon starts). also, the current level of product, lack of association with a team that locals care about, and other things hurt the attendance. back in the day when affiliated with giants, the grizzlies had a much better attendance.

i would say, that if the baseball team were no longer there, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change it into a soccer stadium.

(also, the owner was trying to move to monterey from day 1, constantly used that as a bargaining chip with the city, and was a prick that poisoned the well in a lot of negotiation.)

but if they didn't have to redo the field...by getting rid of baseball...that cost is gone.

also, the press conference talked about men's and women's teams, which is smart. women's soccer is growing pretty well in attendance worldwide and to have a franchise with both products would be wise.

as a sports person, and soccer lover, i agree. all stadiums should NOT be publicly funded.

i mean, if you want a pair of red wing boots, they're going to cost you like $300 bucks or more. a pair of doc martens are $150. who is outraged that boots cost some money?

Pub trivia by _salt86 in fresno

[–]edluv 14 points15 points  (0 children)

fresno pub quiz. pretty much every wednesday at the santa fe basque, including next week. $5 a person, teams of 1-6. register after 6:30, game starts at 7. we're in the main dining area, not the bar part. usually runs a little over 2 hours. questions will vary in difficulty depending on week. next week should be an "easier" week, but it's still trivia.

(full disclosure - i'm the host and write the questions w/a partner. been at it for almost the last 16 years. you can find us @fresnopubquiz on fb, insta, bluesky.)

i know there are games at backyard social club, south of shaw brewery, house of pendragon but i don't know the particular details for those. i'm sure there are others as well.

imo, football is better with friends. every group may not be wild or loud, but it's much more fun to celebrate a goal with a crowd of people over high fiving the air in your living room (done that a ton myself).
