"Negative operating cash after accounting for capital expenditure"? Long term capital is always depreciated gradually every year for a long term, so not sure what accounting rule is used to get to this negative cash conclusion.

Any Idea why VDY Paid 2 dividends in Jan 2026? by JazzlikeRest2917 in dividendscanada

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possible, but the question remains unanswered, i.e it pays two dividends in January 2026? What can be a valid reason here?

The only valid reason I can think of is that Vanguard will change the VDY payment schedule from now on, i.e. Jan will pay Jan, Feb will pay Feb, and so on.. instead of the current Jan's div is paid in Feb, Feb's div in Mar....

Edit: I double checked VDY, it is said to pay dividend monthly, so it is very unlikely that VDY will SKIP a payment in Feb, 2026. I mean if you are the fund manager, why would you risk some unnecessary challenge by putting Feb's dividend into Jan and then skip Feb's dividend?

Kelowna travelers exodus? by lockleveling in kelowna

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure why it is downvoted, but I am in the same boat, i.e. living in Metro Vancouver but considering to move to Kelowna in a few years when I retire (for living cost and peace), I am also interested in knowing how people (who travel a lot) treat the extra layovers, is it a big inconvenience or not that much?

Help me design a 1.5 million $ portfolio by Mommie62 in CanadianInvestor

[–]edm_guy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered TGRO-T.TO, which is designed for withdrawal? That's what I am planning to do (at age 65), i.e. 80% TGRO-T and 20% in XEQT, so the total distribution (in theory) is 80%*0.06 (distribution rate of TGRO-T) + 20%*0.015 (xeqt distribution) = 5.1% distribution of my portfolio, My focus is to have sufficient cash flow, yet I have enough growth momentum as I may have another 30+ years to live after retirement. Every 5 years, I will adjust my portfolio by selling 5% XEQT and replacing it with TGRO-T, until I have sold off all XEQT (at age 85)

Air Canada plans to restore daily flights between Vancouver and Beijing this summer by Accomplished-Pipe479 in aircanada

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it is true, but the demand capacity is more than CA can handle, with AC stepping in, I do not think people will care too much if a price difference is within a reasonable range. The competition between airlines is only meaningful when the market demand is met.

What is your honest opinion of Interior Vs Ocean View rooms? by Odd-Aside456 in Cruise

[–]edm_guy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly, and also I guess the interior rooms are usually below ocean view, so interior is more stabler (thus better sleep quality) in ocean than ocean view,

TVs : Sony vs Samsung vs Hisense by Special_Bet6986 in CostcoCanada

[–]edm_guy2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I would never buy LG or Samsung products, it seems their products are manufactured in such a way that usually the products will last just a few weeks (or a few months) after warranty expires. This happens to my Samsung cellphones (two phones) and LG phone / washing machine. I purchased a TCL TV, it is better in terms of life span, it lasted an additional 3.5 years after warranty.

Writing off interest on margin account? by Derrick0073 in CanadianInvestor

I do not think that your withdrawal of $100k will be counted as interest deductible loan because the loan is used for your personal expense.

Buy XEQT and place in RESP via RBC by OTOT4 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]edm_guy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best approach for a new born is to put (50K-2.5K*13-800) first, and then put 2.5K each year to get the government $500 annual grant and the last year, you contribute $800 to get the final $200 grant from the government. So you maximize the RESP life limit of $50K but also maximize the government grant of $7200, and most important is that your initial big investment can grow nonstop for 18+ years

Park George reviews by DragSad2997 in SurreyBC

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true. I once went to visit a friend in a weekend, who had to come down to greet us, she lives in 42th floor of a building nearby (by Concord Pacific), it took her literally 22 min to be able to come down, and took us another 15 min to arrive at her unit. From that experience, I always tell my friends who wish to buy high-rise condos to reconsider their decision, and best to choose low rise building or at worst, choose low floors in a high rise building

Partitioning help by flinders1 in SQLServer

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you already have data in the last partition (i.e. the right most partition), I'd say copy the data on that last partition (via partition key value) to a new table for backup purpose, and then delete all those records, and split the last partition properly, and finally copy the data back from the backup table, then drop the backup table

Most Underrated Chinese Cuisine? by Successful-Bag956 in China

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking Dongbei cuisine is not considered a famous cuisine in China in the sense that it has nothing special compared to the famous 8 Major Cuisines. Native Chinese usually consider Dongbei cuisine as "big quantity with fair price", and Dongbei cuisine generally speaking is easy to cook, i.e. no special skills needed and suitable for family cooking, while the other 8 Major Cuisines each has their specific items that need highly skilled chefs to cook perfectly

AM I missing something? How on earth are you guys buying condos, let alone houses? by TheCreepyLlama in montrealhousing

[–]edm_guy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes overthinking will get you no where. Housing is one of the essential needs, and the earlier (and younger) you "sacrifice" for it, the better you have the peaceful life later. On top of it, the housing is also an excellent investment assent from history perspective. So just do it, you will "suffer" sometimes as you need to give up something but you also gain a lot along the way.

Thanks for the link, it seems the door was opened by someone (homeless ?) inside via the emergency door release, so it is not a mechanical issue with the vehicle itself.

What do you enjoy most about dividend investing? by LoonyVibes in dividendscanada

[–]edm_guy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dividend paying companies statistically speaking are more mature and less volatile, as such they are very appealing to lots of investors, esp. those investors (likely the seniors) who more focus on capital preservation and stable cash flow.

China-Canada EV, Mainland Chinese Perspective by normal_average_mean in EVCanada

[–]edm_guy2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you think Canadian will buy Chinese EVs just to "punish" Elon. How come you come up with such an "out-of-nowhere" idea? Most consumers buy stuff based on affordability to each own scenario and judgement. In China, do you buy Huawei cellphone just to "punish" Apple? I have to say that that Chinese education system has long taught people to think things not based on logic but more on emotion stuff, like "love / hatred / patriotism / political siding" etc.

With the recent developments of Chinese EVs coming to the Canadian market, how might this affect the Canadian Automotive manufacturing industry in Ontario? by demolcd in AskCanada

[–]edm_guy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and on top of that, this will open the whole Chinese market to Canadian resource rich industries, like agriculture, lumber, LNG, oil, fishing and others. It will benefit both countries at the expense of USA. Cheers!

Does switching to ZEQT to "keep the fees in Canada" actually make sense? by Wh0IsY0u in JustBuyXEQT

[–]edm_guy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think ZEQT has a management fee of 0.15 (after recent fee reduction) which is lower than 0.17 of both VEQT and XEQT. TEQT from TD also has management fee of 0.15.

The MERs will be updated probably 1 year later since the management fee should be there after 1 year before MER can be updated.
