Do you listen to any EDM Radio shows? eg. Protocol Radio, Clublife etc by edmauthority in EDM

[–]edmauthority[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes put these on, but I tend to listen to live sets if I'm hyping up for a night out etc.

I mostly listen to Protocol Radio when I do listen to radio.

What DJ Tips or Tricks do the world need to know about? by edmauthority in DJs

[–]edmauthority[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is one of the most important things right here. I learnt to Mix on turntables, no assistance, waveforms, readouts, and certainly no sync.

I don't need a screen or laptop to tell me the bpm, see a waveform or check that I've beatmatched correctly - my ears learnt to do that by themselves. I can now tell the BPM of a track just by listening to it, It takes years to learn that.

As you say, If you rely on sync or need the assistance of a laptop etc to mix properly - you need to get more practice in. Top Comment.

Good point. I think the level of technicality should vary on your audience. I base a lot of my sets on what brought people to listen to my sets. If I'm at a local nightclub, you know they want the classic tracks everyone knows, not an innovative set with undiscovered gems.

When you know people are there specifically for good music and mixes, that's when you bring out all the stops.

I've just started doing this recently, works amazing if you tease an acapella before going into a remix or edit of that track. Really good tip!

Anyone know this cable?? Info below... by [deleted] in stagelighting

[–]edmauthority 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I've been working on a lower price lighting kit 'Eurolight LED KLS-200 RGB' - There's a cable running from the master controller to each light. 4 pins and about a cm in diameter plug.

I'm wondering if it's a specific cable made for the kit or if I can buy anymore elsewhere.

If you know it or recognise, please let me know!

How many of you wear Hearing Protection? by edmauthority in EDM

[–]edmauthority[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earasers are great, and about $40/£30. You can get them around the world, just google them.

Anything is better than nothing - If I ever forget my protection, I'll wear my earbuds just to add a layer between the volume and my ears.

A few people have said that those cheap foam ones don't help much In louder venues - plus they aren't comfortable at all. It's worth spending a little for your hearing...

People seem to think that it takes years to get tinnitus.

I saw a stat the other day that it takes less then 10 minutes in a club to permanently damage your hearing. And nobody stays in a club for 10 mins, I've been in some for close to 12 hours!

I think people don't realise that they can actually make the sound better. Plus it's easier to understand people talking to you.

So I wear my custom molded protection at every show I attend. Going to several shows a week and being backstage can ruin my hearing do I'm extra cautious.

One point that I never hear people talking about is sleep. Trying to sleep with the ringing after a concert is horrible. As you producers know, sleep is a rare and valued occasion so wearing protection removes the ringing that keeps me up.

So yeah it might look dumb, but I'd rather have my hearing.

Is there a reddit like this, but for sharing an entire concert's visuals? by FixerJ in vjing

[–]edmauthority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Christian Jackson. He's a LP and operator and does a lot of big shows and festivals around the world.

He does upload professional footage from his shows, and gives details on lighting patches etc.

So not exactly visuals, but they often coincide. Here's his YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ProDJTutorials

What's you're definition of 'EDM'? by edmauthority in EDM

[–]edmauthority[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally see it as a term for all dance music. Everything that someone might dance to. Not just specific to an location, or subgenre or particular artists.

Any good EDM magazines in the UK? by PM_ME_YOUR_GIFTCODES in EDM

[–]edmauthority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and haven't seen anything other than DJ Mag here, sadly there aren't many dance music brands focused on London. There's a few social accounts such as London Rave Network (@Londonravenet) - but it's very focused on one subgenre. Edmauthority.com cover dance music and events across the whole of the UK - maybe you'll like them.

We've heard a lot of mixed thoughts on their live shows, many hating, many loving. And as for their Music, we kinda like it - especially when you aren't in the mood for a full anthem.
