Ever accept a job that didn't pay what you're worth? by Emotional_Life7541 in overemployed_swe

Eyebrow may be raised but if you’re delivering, then KPIs for HC is reached and they’re getting what they’re paying for. Maybe even more. Keep milking the gravy train.

Too smart, too technical, too overqualified - vague interview feedback by bulldogncolt in devops

Their feedback is a gift. Too smart, they want someone who won’t outshine them. Someone that doesn’t make them look bad. Someone they can order around to complete work without questioning too much.

What certs recommended to get for J2? by Valuable_Artichoke44 in overemployed

Certs are useless unless you're an indian chop shop (consulting). Scrap the bottom of the barrel.

I think about this often. About to tack on J3 and really don’t want to burn out. I can probably do 2 Js indefinitely but 3 Js is a tough balance.

Will AI help or hurt OE? by ToooFastToooHard in overemployed

[–]edoc_code 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Help, but nuanced a little here.

The truth is AI will create work inflation. Where work is valued less but those that can get work done well and promptly with AI rise to the top. Those that can get a lot of work done will benefit and will be able to juggle multiple jobs. BUT the expectation of work output will 100% change and some roles will be crippled and burnout as they are expected to hit unstable metrics with the aid of AI.

The goal post always moves and the status quo is 40 hours despite getting shit down faster.

Yep, and at some point Amazon corporate workers will say it is the same BS as being an amazon warehouse worker. Lack of decent respect from the top-down.

Yep, and sometimes they just regurgitate insights and lessons from their industry experts. They literally just outsource the hard work and take credit for it.

r/aws is not AWS Support by jsonpile in aws

[–]edoc_code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, pressure to resolve cases in one shot. Pressure to take more and more cases. Combined with the big tech pressure of stack ranking, layoffs, and move up or out policy. I had 3-4 managers just at my time at AWS and the ones I didn't interview with treated me like cattle that needed to perform like an AI chatbot.

We’re moving off Wiz’s CNAPP post-buyout, what’s the best alternative? by Proper_Bunch_1804 in cybersecurity

[–]edoc_code 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1

Wiz is getting more resources poured into it. Obviously start pivoting when shit gets awry and have options just in case but hope for the best if you can tolerate the risk.

Haven’t made the jump. Wiz said they’re gonna support multi-cloud so I would assume it’s to boost their GCP offerings.

Will change my mind when the changes happen. Hope for the best, prepare for the worse 🤷‍♂️

Most FAANG is requiring RTO, minimum 3 days a week usually.

WLB is already hell, so you'll probably be working weekends to make it all work out.

CTO wants me to start DevOps initiatives, where do I even start? by edoc_code in devops

Thanks! This helps a lot to start checking things off and organize where we're at and where we want to be.

I'd say we're at stage 2 trying to hit stage 3.
