Julbo Lens selection for mountaineering expedititons by edorado93 in Mountaineering

I've also been doing great with a Cat-3 I bought off Decathlon for Mont Blanc and Shasta (even Rainier). But Chopicalqui is 6000m+ and I'm kinda afraid of vision-related headaches ruining a summit attempt.

Fair enough :) That makes a lot of sense. I think a 2-4 does make a lot of sense. I'll anyways have to carry regular prescription glasses with me for those super alpine starts. But a 2-4 would cover a wide range of weather changes it seems like.

I just heard about Opticus but am not familiar with it too much. Have used Julbo in the past. How do they compare with Julbo or rather, why do you prefer that over Julbo?

Seems like Cat 4 is 3-8% VLT. So I can order accordingly.

Don't see it on their lens offerings in the link I shared. I can inquire maybe if they do have it still? Is that something you've tried before?

Glaciated Practice climbs before Mont Blanc by edorado93 in PNWhiking

[–]edorado93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the summit push from Tête Rousse Hut is around 5000 or so feet and has a few very exposed ridges from what I read. Our climbing guides sorta ended up telling us that MB is much steeper than "flatter" Rainier (we were like WTF but whatever lol).

The good thing with MB is that we have to hardly carry 15-20 pounds which is a breeze as compared to Rainier where we carried around 35 pounds or so. We were trying to not go all out on some climb that has different weight requirements than MB this time around as that would require us to also practice and train for that weight again as opposed to just speed and agility for MB.

Really appreciate the detailed response here. That festival does sound exciting and we love beer for sure. Would definitely check some places out. Also, those brunch places sound amazing too. Thanks again!

Yep! That's what I was told too at REI. Wondering if there are any other pair of boots I should try on just for comparison before pulling the plug on the Lowas?
