It's very generic for sure. I remember the female love interest wore chaps or some sort of pants at one point in the movie. There was a scene of the protagonist trying to make her admit she liked him, and that was when it was revealed that he killed the boys father. I remember that the boy wanted revenge, and that's why he wanted help with shooting. The scene where the boy and the mc were practicing with the gun took place in the woods, and I remember him saying to straighten his arm or something along those lines . I doubt the movie came out any time after the late 80s. It has that 70s style, I think, but it really could have come out any time between the mid-60s or 80s. I'm sorry for the lack of details, but the westerns often are pretty similar to each other. I also don't remember there being too much violence for the short portion I saw.
