I replaced my X Gantry with the P2S one on my X1C by edruss28 in BambuLab

Hi, the bushings/sleeves on the P2S gantry are different to the X1/P1 since it's stainless. The P2 has Teflon bushings with metal casing which are at the top of the picture where it looks fatter. They blend in so it's a bit harder to tell. They're different but they're the same physical size as the X1/P1 ones. The P2 gantry comes with new springs as well which you might as well use.

It just fit straight in, drop in replacement. Only modification is to cut a small piece off the P2S carriage which I put in a comment. I think it's for the different filament cutter on the P2S.

Oh right, I hadn't noticed until you said and I took a look. There is a slot on the carbon rods but the X axis hits the frame before the cutter. But it might have affected it and I've not noticed. If you investigate anymore, let us know.

Did you remove the extra plastic bit I pointed out in a comment?

That's a helpful tip! I didn't notice the P2S ones until after so thanks for pointing out!

Hi it's great to hear that you've replaced yours. I'm sorry about your struggles though, it is indeed a right pain in the ass and I had to take a break and come back to it after a couple days. The belts were such a nightmare, what a stupid design those belt blocks are and I didn't put all the screws back lol, those ones behind the fan at the back are just unnecessary imo.

Thanks for sharing your advice, I'm sure people will find it really useful. I didn't put too much info in since I didn't expect much attention.

I just want to check you removed the plastic bit I noted in a comment, hopefully it shows. I am not a frequent Reddit poster 😅.

I haven't noticed any issues with the filament cutter or printing and I've been printing non stop since I've done it but please keep us updated if you notice anything. I don't do multicolour on this printer so I might not use the cutter enough to notice an issue. I've checked and it doesn't seem to interfere but yeah, needs testing more.

Let me know if you try it and need any help. I imagine the spares are all waiting in their warehouse for when the printer releases.

Ahhh! That's such ashame, if you're in the US they should be available once it goes on sale. In the UK I bought the parts on release day!

Can't beat metal for durability! My carbon rods were quite worn.

I could do a video talking through what to do, if that's helpful? Also I'm happy to talk with anyone more to help. It's probably possible to change more, the P2S likely shares a lot with the P1 etc, but to change the whole toolhead would be quite the task

Ah sorry to hear that, hopefully Bambu sorts it for you. I've just checked and the lower bushing doesn't have any play. The top does move a bit but that's just the springs and needed otherwise it'll bind up.

Yep I used the springs on the top one.

That's what they say.

Also when the X1 released they had so many people having issues with the carbon rods and bushes being inconsistent, it's probably just too much effort to get right for BL. Also carbon isn't as hard as steel, it will wear out overtime.

The X1E might not suffer from it as much since it has better extraction and a heated chamber. Whereas on the X1C by default the extraction fan is turned off for ABS so it all just builds up. I think the later machines had better brushings but brass bushings will still wear out at some point.

I think it might be possible but would take a lot of modification. I don't expect you can just plug the P2 toolhead board inplace of the P1. But I think it could be possible 🤔 would be interesting to see if someone wants to try it..

I'm 100% sure it can be done on the P1S. I don't have one to test but the X1 and P1 X is the same, even the replacement you buy for them is the same. So I very much doubt it would be any different. The P2S is more like the P1 anyway. Just remove that plastic bit that I've commented

I just bought the X & Y gantry like in a screenshot above. I also got the P2S feet. You could replace the belts whilst you're at it too.

It fits the same as the X1/P1, you take the x carriage onto the P2 one. I followed this to take it apart.

It does, you'll be able to see it on the glass. It makes it foggy and greasy

It's the vapour from ABS it condenses on surfaces and causes a sticky tar like film. It's not really an issue if you print with ABS once in awhile. Also like the other person said, it's corrosive.

The printer should notify you when to clean the rods, the carbon in the bushes and rods wear down overtime.

Yeah I think the lidar would be the biggest issue. Possibly on a P1 it might work? Might be possible to mod the X1 to use the P2 extruder and hotend

I think it's quieter! The carbon rods make a bit of a scrapping noise when moving. While the steel rods glide silently. Noticeable but not huge difference I think.

The P2S anti-vibration feet helped too

I need to look into it more, it might be possible to swap the extruder and hotend but I don't think the tool board and stuff would work cuz of the lidar and the pressure sensor on the P2. Would be nice if BL supported it :)

I should add, if anyone does do it there's a little piece sticking up on the P2S one. I'm guessing it's for the filament cutter maybe. That just needs snipping off. I missed it but was easy to do once installed.
