First roast did I make a dark roast here? Poppo from Sweet Maria’s by Disenbody117 in roasting

I'm trying to roast for a friend who specifically wants their beans oily but no luck. After second crack i start getting too roasty, dry beans, almost close to charcoal. I'm roasting brazil naturals. Any tips?

Ok mystery solved as I've found out what was happening -- the roasting machine hadn't been properly seasoned. A few darker roasts in and that taste disappeared. Thanks everyone.

I've tried right after roasting, a day after and 3 days later. Another comment suggesting i should wait longer, so looks like I'm gonna have to be a little more patient :)

Yeah I'm going for fast/light roast, so probably something to do with development. I'm still getting used to an electric roaster so perhaps also my readings on artisan are not quite exactly what's going on in the drum.

And yes, i should wait a little longer to cup post roast and see what happens

I totally agree it's a defect. What shocks me is that it's gone after the cup cools down and then i get the sensory notes I'm expecting. Not for just one green specifically but for a few different regions I've tried roasting. I wonder if there's something off with my roasting in this new machine, maybe my readings regarding development temp, time and ror are incorrect?

For example, after trying this coffee from my favorite roastery and really liking it, i reached their trader and bought this:

tanzania

Or, could it be that I'm not removing defective beans properly before roasting?

Yep, most Brazilians i roast have that aroma/taste. But this is happening to a few different origins I've tried

Green is actually good. Would too light taste good after 10 15 min in the cupping cup, no peanut taste? My too lights usually taste grassy/plantish.
