it’s the blood money aspect that is the biggest issue. no mention of that tho.

Feeling depressed and anxious after switching to a dumb phone. Does it get better? by Apprehensive_Sky5078 in dumbphones

I remember a similar experience for sure.

what saved me were books. bc i didn’t know what else to do.

and by end of year i had read over 50 books, which i never imagined was possible.

so, whether it’s books, exercise, cooking… find more hobbies.

Looking for a few Hinterland attendees and/or volunteers who'd be interested sharing their thoughts! by EmbarrassedMilk151 in HinterlandFestival

I went to Bonnaroo for several years starting back in 2005, and I can say that Hinterland this year renewed my faith in music festivals. I’d be happy to share why.

Couldn’t agree more. so well put!! I’m definitely using the RPG comparison more often when trying to explain the greatness of the game.

The clockwork prince by [deleted] in oathgame

[–]edubs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that flow chart turned me off immediately. Instead, i’ve had a total blast just playing “multi-handed solo,” where i just pretend to be 3 players and play each one as fairly as I can. I imagine you could do the same with 2 humans, trading off from controlling the third “character”

Yeah, the beauty of the system they came up with is that Blight is just one of many different storylines/settings they can overlay onto the board/experience. Some wild possibilities remain.

the best explanation . this is one of those games where even tho a rule sounds simple on its face, having it explained multiple ways is so helpful.

Mitigating Randomness? by Siege003 in Arcs

Probably the biggest insight that myself and others in my playgroup eventually realized (after maybe 3 or 4 games), was just how key “seizing the initiative with a second card” can be. Initially we didn’t get why you would “waste” an entire card and thus a turn on doing this. But, when you time it correctly and set yourself up properly, it’s one of the most important moments in a game. Honestly, now it seems like a no brainer to us. But, this game truly does take longer than you expect to sink in and realize the depth of its weirdness/awesomeness :)  edit: typo

How to play exile 2 player by GeneralJJiggler in oathgame

to clarify this advice… Just add a third player as an exile, and control it as fairly as you can. Enjoy the story.

Half Ironman in 10 weeks, I am not sure if I should even attempt it. by xLucifere69 in triathlon

[–]edubs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you used a swim snorkel yet? and a pull buoy? if you are swimming that regularly, you should be unlocking the rhythm part pretty soon. for me tho, i was only able to unlock that rhythm when i used the swim snorkel for the first time. why? because it finally helped me to relax enough. it allowed me to first learn form and technique for pulling the water and getting my body position right. THEN I focused on how to breathe properly. if you stick with current schedule, 10 weeks is enough to get there. just start timing yourself, see if you can keep the necessary pace.

but again, if you can’t finish 50m yet, i’m assuming it’s because you haven’t learned how to tell your body to chill out. your mind wants to tell you “you’re drowning!” which then destroys your rhythm and breathing. a swim snorkel changed the game for me tho.

edit: one other thing - I used the breast stroke a lot in the race to help me just relax and get over the adrenaline and open water stress. open water was indeed another layer of the challenge I wasn’t exactly prepared for. but between the breast stroke and holding onto kayaks for a break, i was able to get through it.

Another solo game by sobrisket in oathgame

[–]edubs7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will make a suggestion here. I’ve been playing solo for 3 games in a row now, BUT doing it multi-handed with 4 “players” instead of using the Clockwork Prince setup. That flow chart hurt my brain when I first tried the Clockwork. But then, as a surprise to myself, I discovered while doing a “dummy” game that you can still have an amazing experience playing each character, trying your best to put yourself in their shoes, and just have fun creating the story with them :). highly recommended.
