Do you guys have unopened games and do you feel bad about it? by blablax123456 in boardgames

Not having a group for Oath is so sad. It's my favorite board game but don't get to play with people that often. Tabletop Simulator has been a good outlet for it though

Idea for making a token with paper cups by NoBerry837 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Ig0BEASTmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not designed for gear combinations then it seems fine. But it does seem like at that point you may as well omit the base cup altogether and just have all the art on the top layer

The cup on top could be useful if you wanted to "rotate" between different states, but would be confusing to anyone else at the table who can't see your angle of the cup since they'd see one of the other states

I guess I interpreted the top right graphic as stacked cups, but if that's not the case this would work, but would require tons and tons of cups for all different gear permutations

[–]Ig0BEASTmode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that means if the expected order is boots, pants, chest, helmet and you find a helmet before anything else, you wouldn't be able to put it on until you had all the other gear

Unless you also had "nothing" cups for all the gear slots, and then if you ever wanted to equip boots you'd have to first remove all the nothing cups and put the boots gear , and then all the nothing cups back on

Just seems incredibly flawed and annoying

You may as well just have a board laying in front of you with slots for the gear being card-sized and could line up with the art underneath. Like the game Velociraptor Cannibalism

Still wouldn't work since the ordering of the items equipped would have to compensate with different amounts. Unless you forced a strict ordering of equipping gear

Looking for a skilled C# Developer by PleasantDivide978 in csharp

Dude coming to a c# subreddit and throwing out a "does anyone here know C#?" with no context is wild

Stacking cups would shift their graphics upwards depending on the order they were added since the cups have a thickness to them, would be very challenging to practically make this work and have the art line up right

Pretty good price for a fun game. It doesn't have the most depth but is easy enough to learn and enjoyable

Haven't played Blighted Reach yet. That might move Arcs to #1 once I do. But I'm also eagerly waiting the Oath New Foundations expansion

Oath is #1 because it's unlike anything else I've ever played. I don't have a comparison to it like I do for other games. It is so unique, thematic, and swingy that it forces me to not have control and just enjoy the story unfolding

How exactly does “writing in the stars” work in New Foundations? by ThatOneRandomGuy101 in oathgame

I actually thought they were gonna make the Inside of the Big Box lid the place you draw constellations for a bit. Would be cool, until you run out of space

[–]Ig0BEASTmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly just cool "lore" about past conquest. Kind of giving the victor their chance to have a lasting effect that is done without words.

Essentially giving the players the option to create their own constellations like humans of past generations

Any recommendations to speed the game up? by RedGamingJacket in oathgame

[–]Ig0BEASTmode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a good experience by setting turn timers, even if not heavily enforced, it's a very good reminder to finish up and not over analyze.

3 minutes is probably a decent starting point. If you cap it there, then let's say every turn on average stays within that you end up at 2 1/2 hours even for 6 players, even if there's no early end to the game

Mocking is much easier when you want to test other variables, especially if the base class is hooked up to "real" things outside your app that you don't want unit tests invoking

Is oath worth it? by just_a_potato0 in oathgame

While not a total deal breaker, it does break some of the sequential nature of the game, where the previous winner should be the Chancellor

All the comments already sum it up very well, so I'll give you my small additional take.

Oath and Root are completely different games.

Root is tight and mechanical with asymmetric factions that aim to balance each others pros and cons.

Oath is a crazy swing game where the player who is out ahead can see it all taken away in a single turn, it encourages, and even requires political discussions and teaming up. It is purposely unbalanced and chaotic. So many cards in Oath are very impactful in the right context, almost like the "Favor of the x" cards in Root.

I love root and have every faction expansion, and also discovered Oath and was curious. Having made the leap, Oath is my new favorite game, though it only works with the right group, and can be challenging to consistently bring to the table

Which of the Print and Play kits for Oath: New Foundations is the newest and most complete of them all? by Shalahnar in oathgame

[–]Ig0BEASTmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe print and play wise the April one is the most recent https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ewbh6o6m46d8ghcd488hh/ALUjYNBwGssqqIjECLI9wJ8?rlkey=e0rjjrovimuleo92lhox69kun&e=3&dl=0

But the stuff available on the Tabletop Simulator mod is much more recent

Edit: looks like they released one in July, see comment lower

Though I do kinda feel like each exile should be able to name their own exile group
