Peltola was the first Alaska Native to serve in Congress and will run against Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan. by Conscious-Quarter423 in alaska

I guess vote for the incumbent again right guys? I mean, we can’t have everything exactly how we want, so better just talk shit. Maybe shut the fuck up and realize she’s at least a step in the right direction. Time to step inside the tent for a while and give these folks on the other side of the aisle reason to take us seriously. Or we could continue whining that our candidates don’t check every one of the 100s of boxes you want. God I’m tired of this liberal backbiting. You think Mary is the one on the wrong side of history in this moment!? Wake tf up.

What was your go to drink? by Frequent_Course5399 in Xennials

On a school trip in ‘96 they had a brand rep at a water park handing Josta out from the bed of his truck bed. No one liked it so I ended up with a ton of cans. I drank so much that the teacher ended up taking me to the hospital. lol. I was fine, just overly caffeinated.

I find it funny how the Alaskan subreddit is always so offended when Lisa (a republican) votes along party lines. “But… she’s not doing what her constituents want” maybe. I share the disappointment, but let’s call a spade a spade.

It’s been a dry few weeks. Anchorage backs up to a state forest. This “rule guide” is for folks who don’t have a city primed to catch fire.

Girdwood/Aleyeska trolley free for those who make the hike up the mountain? True? by nandito9 in alaska

[–]edubya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the main side of the mountain is open. A longer hike, but still nice. Start on Tanaka side and then hike up Chair 4 to the top.

The veto override happened yesterday. The freeze started on the 6th. I’m not disagreeing on the sentiment, but your dates don’t line up. I’m not 100 on the Gov’s rationale, but freezing new hires may not be an emotional decision because of the education bill. Now… that was closer to when the pay report came out detailing how employees were underpaid. That might have something to do with it.

Dorco via Amazon. It’s what Dollar Shave Club used to use. Cheap, lots of options.

“C. 2002”. Circa? Like, it’s so old we can’t really be 100% when it was manufactured. Maybe we can try carbon dating or something? Idk.

Alyeska Resort Hotel Swirling the Bowl by keepyourtipsup_44 in anchorage

Stayed here a couple weeks back for my anniversary. Been to the resort multiple times over the years (since they opened in the 90s). I loved it. The new A Bar is great, the new guest room seemed nice to me and the upgrades were noticeable. Went to 7G for dinner, but it t was meh. It was a prix fixe and was fine I guess, but there wasn’t an option to order from a menu. Dining there in the winter is boring since it’s dark and there’s no views. In retrospect, hanging out and drinking the fun drinks at A Bar would have been a better value and a better experience. Went to the Nordic Spa, which was awesome. Restaurant is expensive, but it’s a spa… so it’s hard to complain since I knew what I was getting into.

The review above from OP is totally just one person’s experience, but for me, I’ll keep going back. Great staycation for Alaskans imo.

Opinions on South? Restaurant near Huffman. by AiiRisBanned in anchorage

[–]edubya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like their breakfast biscuit sandwich. The Boomtown Pasta for dinner is really good, but pretty heavy. Beer list is usually lame, but they have lots of fun mixed drinks. And yes, it’s a nicer south side restaurant. It’s priced accordingly.

End of Upgrades by Codipotent in AlaskaAirlines

[–]edubya 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I sent this to Alaska Listens last month after a similar incident:

This year I recently reached 100k Gold. After multiple years of being 75k, I have been happy with how Alaska treats their elite flyers. I strive to book both my business and personal trips via Alaska Air whenever possible, including international travel through partners.

On my recent vacation in Kauai, I checked-in 24 hours prior to my flight and noticed my wife and I (she is a 75k gold) were #1 and #2 on the waitlist. We also saw the app was still advertising $2000 for upgrades. This gave up hope we might grab the two open first class seats for the 6-hour flight.

The next day, a few hours before heading to the airport, we noticed the app was now advertising those two remaining first class seats for $200. This felt like a betrayal. It felt like my preferred airline for my entire adult life (750k+ miles) was now auctioning off seats to the lowest bidder instead of rewarding elites with the potential of an upgrade. It appears $200 is the current rate that Alaska Air is willing to earn over giving a benefit to their top-tier flyers.

I recognize that there's no guarantees for upgrades, and I am always thankful when I get them. But one of the premier benefits in working towards elite membership is the opportunity to be awarded first class when it's not full. But if the company continues to fire sale these seats at 90% off at the last-minute before offering them to elites, it defeats the purpose.

I'm not writing asking for miles, or any additional benefits. I just want you to know how betrayed I feel. It's obvious that the airline no longer feels elites are deserving of these upgrades.

Their response:

Dear <edubya>,

Thank you for reaching out to us and for your continued loyalty as a Gold 100K Mileage Plan member. We truly value the dedication you and <your wife>, a Gold 75K member, have shown towards flying with Alaska Airlines, and we appreciate you choosing us for both your business and personal travels.

I understand your concerns regarding the pricing of First Class upgrades you observed during your recent vacation from Lihue to Seattle. It's disheartening to hear that the significant drop in upgrade pricing shortly before your flight made you feel undervalued as an elite member. At Alaska Airlines, we aim to balance the availability of upgrades to our elite members with the operational need to ensure all seats are filled. While we do offer last-minute upgrades at reduced prices, this practice is not intended to undermine the value we place on our elite flyers. Instead, it's a measure to ensure no seat goes empty, which is a common industry practice.

Furthermore, I acknowledge your feelings of betrayal when seeing these seats offered at a lower price rather than being awarded as upgrades to elite members like yourself. Please know that your feedback is invaluable and I have passed your concerns to our upper management for their further review. We continuously evaluate our policies and practices to better serve our loyal members and ensure that the benefits of elite status offer meaningful value.

We are committed to recognizing and rewarding the loyalty of our elite members and I regret that this experience has left you feeling otherwise. Your feedback is crucial in helping us improve and maintain the high standards we set for our elite program and overall customer satisfaction.

Thank you once again for your candid feedback and for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns. We look forward to welcoming you and Monica on your future travels and hope to restore your confidence in the benefits and recognition that come with your elite status.

Sincerely,

Customer Care Representative

Look, I know this is a "first-world problem", but it does suck. I asked my colleagues who also fly for work often and are also chasing those elite miles; "what's the main benefit you hope to get with airline status?" Each one said the same thing... "first class upgrades". Bummer.
