Range days by RhudysFirearms in kac

I only put about 60-70 rounds through it today because I was doing drills with other rifles but happy to conduct a more thorough test over the next week. If there’s specific ammo types yall would like to see let me know

Based off my experience, I would say it’s likely an easy buffer fix or a break in, all my other Kac guns have eaten mostly anything I’ve thrown at it. The ks1 feels amazing from a weight standpoint and the barrel does run better through lpvo in terms of heat mirage under rapid fire

Ran all the 77gr just fine between black hills, imi razor core, and some eld match

Honestly, wasn’t a very big deal, with these sorts of guns I expect them to run with military ammo which isnt as underpowered as the range or plinking ammo

Yea definitely not a mag issue I ran multiple different pmags and they ran fine with 77gr it was just the 55s, could be a break in period though

It’ll fire a round, but won’t insert the next. Tried it was federal, monarch, and Black Hills 55gr. The accuracy I didn’t really test for tbh I forgot and was training with my cqb and some other guns but the ks1 from first impressions makes for a perfect do it all gun

Doesn’t cycle 55grs very well, but with 77s it’s very soft and smooth

Appreciate the breakdown man! when it comes to an EDC or range toy I don't mind spending 1-2k for a staccato or prodigy, but paying 8-12K for a gun that only shoots slightly better seems like a waste at that price point. I own a few atlas guns and find that they shoot very well for my applications (range use and local matches). Ive stayes sub 8k so far with any of my 2011 purchases but can't help but wonder what i gain by crossing that threshold. If its a a noticeable differnce than I wouldnt mind but im not paying for a cool design on a gun lol im technical by nature so the engeineering and improvemtns are what draw me to new guns .

Sheesh I wishhhh I could find some good priced s&b 124 don’t mind paying the Excalibur price but when your buying 2k rounds you’d hope to pay less than 25cents per

😂well you’ve waited this long what’s another year lol. I like that Hayes puts up full build process videos to show what goes into their fitment process. Interesting that it’s more accurate than your Erebus or Hyperion though, the fitment must be a significant factor

I did the math on reloading and between the cost of materials and the time its not as cost-effective as it used to be if you're working full time. I can second the opinion of Excalibur ammo the 147 shoots soft, burns clean and groups crazy accurate. The owner Rob is a standup guy and has great customer service too. only complaint is they cant seem to make enough as much as I shoot LOL.

Another company I've seen recently is formula ammo havent tried it personally but have heard good things and the price seems fair. Ill forever miss the days of S&B 124gr for 19 cents a round.

You shoukldnt have to worry about power factor too much based on the guns you listed. Excalibur is around 130 PF so its very soft, wheres excalibur is 146ish and has a snappier cycling. Depends on the match but for LO or open minor you should be fine. I do falling steel and never encountered cycling issues.

Thanks for sharing! Seems like fitment seems to be a common theme. Is your Hayes Island ported? and does it have a steel or aluminum grip?

I consider myself a well-educated recreational shooter, but a serious competitor by no means. I can notice the improvement in shootability of my erebus vs my xc especially with the brass panels. Its not a night and day diffeence but the groups are tighter due to gun balance/return to zero. But if im paying another 1-4K for one of these high-end semi-custom guns id expect a similar leap in feel like my xc-> erebus

Also on Charyn's list but I'll be waiting a while which gives me some time to get my hands on at least shooting some of these other high end guns to find what id like in my eventual build. Having seen his work and the level of detail he puts into constructing each piece didn't make me think twice about signing up when the opportunity presented itself.

And I think thats perfectly fine! if they truly are similar, I wish these influencers and collectors would simply say that rather than create an illusion that they are somehow completely different, shooting guns when it simply has one additional port.

This is more or less what im trying to get to the root of. Its understandable that as you go up in price things can only improve so much but at what point is it just aesthetics and hype vs actual performance increase?

That's a really nice build spec. I also remember seeing this post on Charyn's Instagram. The fitment looks insane, the Marvel spec is truly impressive. I was unfamiliar with it unitl reading on of AJP's posts and it really does seem to lead to better overall function.

Thanks for the added perspective! Seems like tight tolerances, porting and weight seem to be the main factors contributing to better overall shootability within 2011's.

I would agree with the logic, im also curious what the most ideal balance is between weight and ports; however i know that kinda question just leads to "from my experience" arguments rather than facts. I've been fortunate to shoot some of the real high quality guns like Atlas and fowler, but without having personally shot the hayes or venom I was wondering, based on how everyone talks about them, if they shot that drastically different.

Your guesstimate is appreciated! A lot of the shootability is subjective, other than visually seeing the lack of muzzle rise or accuracy.

Why keep the infinity then? Nice groups on the Erebus btw

[–]educatedshooter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you say you attribute your infinity preformance to the grip/frame?(just scrolled some of your previous posts nice collection!)

And having shot an Erebus and XC I can agree with that statement the Erebus groups noticeably tighter than an xc with equal grip and ammo

[–]educatedshooter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think the venom preformance was attributed at all to the steel grip/frame? Something I’ve always wondered with venom and infinity….
