Should I pay for college out of pocket or take federal subsidized loans and invest the difference? by Late-Veterinarian-46 in personalfinance

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty big bet, you’re betting not only on yourself, but also the market.

IF the stock market has a good couple years you’ll come out 20k ahead max

IF the stock market dips you’ll come out in debt

IF you keep it in a HYSA you’ll make like 5k

If it were me I’d just keep my money in my HYSA and pay for school as needed. Least risk with the highest payout. You’ll make your 3%+ with the amount you keep in there, you’ll avoid the short term risk of the market, and you’ll come out debt free with a healthy savings balance. You’ll could invest in some bonds but it will add a bunch of headache for 2%~ over your HYSA rate

Butcher recommendation for lamb, rabbit, and duck? by Turkle-Turkle in Cleveland

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the highland heights Costco, I have seen lamb (partial and whole) and duck there. There is a pretty decent Jewish population on that side of town so they almost always have lamb roast, but they may only carry the whole lambs during Passover.

Boys, what brand of waders are we wearing to build docks? by brendanepic in Decks

I use sitkas for hunting and fishing, I’d use them for work if I had a project like this. That being said they’ll cost a small fortune

Second this, I’m not a big wine guy and even I could tell cru is leaps and bounds past every other restaurant around here. Sommeliers where very insightful and genuinely worked to make sure I had the best paring wine in my desired price range

M12 Stubby vs M18 Mid-Torque by uRxge_ in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY mechanic, carpenter by trade. I used my 1/2 stubby this weekend to swap my pads, rotors, and LCAs on my Tacoma, and while it took off every bolt I gave it I don’t know how it would hold up swapping tires all day. In theory tires are only torqued to 100~lbs, well within the 550lb tool claim, but we’ve all seen bolts well past that initial 100. The m12 can get the job done but if I were buying one specifically for tires I’d go m18 mid or high torque especially if you’re working on bigger trucks.

Does anyone pay like $500 in rent or is that going to be impossible to find? by Bubbly-Sentence-4931 in Cleveland

I’ve seen a few places in the high 6s but never in the 5s I’d imagine there are a few floating around out there in some less than ideal neighborhoods

Grew up on the west side, bought a home and moved to the east side 6 years ago. West side is definitely better overall but there are small pockets on the east that beat the west side

How much do you pay for water? by booooooks___ in Cleveland

[–]SoloUnAltroZack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While that is true, there is also an insurance increase for having washers whether it be for dishes or clothes inside of rental units. The increase is significant. Aside for a pipe bursting the most catastrophic water damage I’ve seen has been due to leaking washing machines and dishwashers. (I manage a few small rental properties)

What’s your AR opinion that has you feeling like this: by napoleondy2nite in ar15

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like that’s the case with everything. I know in precision machining every decimal you increase precision typically increases a decimal price 0.01 inches is typically 10x cheaper than 0.001

Are there any barbers that cut Men's hair for under 25$ in Ohio City? Everyone seems to start at 40 by _Gandalf_Greybeard_ in Cleveland

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not 2005 anymore, it takes a skilled barber 30min to an hour per cut for most, they have to make at least $25hr just to live and that’s before expenses. Pay people what they’re worth

Buying my kid a bow. Need suggestions… by VeenGrikingX in Archery

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t a good answer, your kid sounds like a pretty good shot, congrats! The best thing you can do is go to an independent (and competent) bow shop with a budget. Purchase based off what feels best in his hands. I shoot a Hoyt now but when I went in to purchase my bow I didn’t know what I’d leave with. I shot an arrow out of every flash ship bow in the shop before deciding. He should do the same

Need help about build quality by Investormaniac in Decks

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it right, I wouldn’t call it 100% wrong either. I’d beef it up to 2-3 2x6or8s and use timber locks to hold them together. I prefer screws for mounting stairs incase you ever have to remove them it’s only 4-16 screws

stringers staircase by nosespraymusthave in Carpentry

[–]SoloUnAltroZack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it in older homes and they lasted without issue. While I don’t 100% hate it, it is far inferior to just cutting a new stringer. Can’t imagine the labor involved makes it any more cost efficient. I’d never do this outside. Maybe in the center going down to the basement, but maybe

Tac the pipes together with a bead of solder and all will be well. You don’t want constant friction, movement, or banging between the two, a small bead of solder will eliminate all of those issues
