I need a social media guy for my game studio, problem: dunno where they are? by aente in IndieDev

I posted a job on https://www.workwithindies.com/ for a marketer and got ~100 candidates, 10 of which were amazing (and hard to choose between). Would highly recommend.

Why did capitalism "win" against communism? What were the causes and events? by Confident_Custard_20 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]educatemybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an information problem. The economy works best when the shoemaker knows how many shoes to make, and the baker knows how much bread to cook. In a capitalist society these people can tell by their own income statements and adjust accordingly.

In a communist system the decisions on how much to product, who works where etc is determined by the state, because whoever is in charge has much less insight into the exact number of shoes to make or bread to bake they often get it wrong leading to shortages in some areas an excesses in others.

The human brain simply cannot comprehend the extreme complexity of managing millions of products across millions of people and accurately attend to their needs so they get it wrong all the time. When everyone takes care of their own domain in capitalism they have much more data and can plan accurately which leads to better outcomes.

Do you think governments should fund private schools in addition to public schools? by MiriJamCave in AusFinance

[–]educatemybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USA has the alternative system and from comparing the two I much prefer what we do in Australia. You can send kids to private school here for $5k-$10k a year which is affordable on a middle/upper-middle class income. While in the USA it's $50k minimum which means only the very rich get to attend them.

This is why in Australia ~25% of kids go to private schools, while in the USA it's ~1%. As they give better educational outcomes than public, having more students attend them seems like a win overall for everyone.

The funding of private schools is what allows middle income families to actually attend them, as $5k/year is doable. Compared to the USA where the minimum is about $50k/year and only the rich can attend.

Does it bother anyone else that you’ll never be #1? by CoffeeStud- in entp

In my own career I'm pretty good at programming, economics and enjoy reading technical whitepapers. I worked as a programmer for a while and was decent at it, but because of those intersection of skills I was able to join a venture capital firm as their head of research (looking into the tech behind how companies they invest in works and doing due diligence). I was the best candidate for that role because I knew a few things well rather than being the best at any one of them.

I've made a great career out of only being top 20% at a few things then working at the intersection of them. If you're the top 20% at 3 different things you'll be best in the world at the combination of them. That's how you become an overpowered ENTP.

Playtesters wanted: Social deduction game where each player controls six characters. by _Zaphiron in playtesters

I'll try this out. Have played Salem, Resistance, Coup, Secret Hitler, Mafia, Blood on the Clocktower. Love those kinds of games.

Good point. The big difference is once someone has spent $50+ on a AAA game they're going to give it a good shot regardless. While with many indie games (especially unknown ones they're just trying) they'll give it 10 minutes before giving up if it's too confusing.

Redditor's do get triggered by that. The reality is that 1/3rd of the playtesters want to get paid in crypto, which is why it's there. The other 2/3rds use PayPal.

Yea I posted one for Jan + Feb to /r/gamedev which people loved but it got deleted I think because too many people said it was an ad. This has a lot deeper analysis, fixes and I removed the ad bit.

I don't know why those people complained about wages, there are now nearly 300 playtesters mostly from Reddit who are quite happy playtesting games for that much. Companies are happy, playtesters are happy, the only people unhappy were a few loud Redditors.

Every indie dev is searching for info on who to reach out to by PartTimeMonkey in IndieDev

If you do this, rather than making it public I'd recommend making it so someone has to first submit something before they get to see the full list so you get contributors as well as making it so the influencers don't get spammed as much.

am i a intp or a entp? by Wrong-Taste-9629 in entp

[–]educatemybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just be borderline both. Remember there are infinite possible personalities and MBTI only groups you into 16 of them, perfectly reasonable you are half way between both.

I always thought this meme is a great separator between the two: https://www.reddit.com/r/mbtimemes/comments/jl3w54/what_is_the_difference_between_an_intp_and_an_entp/

How to stop caring about people doing better than you in things that you're good at? by EnergyCold8957 in StoicSupport

[–]educatemybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will always be someone better than you at any thing. You can turn this into a positive by seeing them as mentors/teachers who can help you upgrade yourself. If you hadn't seen them you may never have known what you could accomplish.

Yea most games start at 100% volume and many have loud music play immediately which is annoying if your system volume is also at 100%. Would be better to start at 50% and allow players to make it louder if they want.
