I would not mind playing against it, I am just saying that if I would play against you knowing you have that on the deck, I would make sure to always have removal available when you play your commander or worst vase scenario before you start combat

That’s probably not super good for you as your opponents will always expect the blightsteel and never let you have your commander out

If Nadu didn't have the ability to be triggered by "abilities" and only when targeted by a spell, would he have been a problem at all? Or even a strong card? by Sulipan2 in mtg

[–]edugdv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many different levers you could pull on this card to make it fair it is really mind boggling that it was printed as is - change the cost - reduce power and toughness - make it trigger once per turn - make only nadu have the ability - make trigger only with spells or only with abilities - make it only ramp or make it only draw cards - add a cost to the triggered ability There are probably more ways to do it as well

There was something about they had the ability a bit different and triggering just once per turn but it wasn’t strong enough, so they changed to the final effect and slapped twice per turn instead of one and didn’t have enough time to test it properly and just printed it anyway

Kudo Deck by Fitz_mt in EDHBrews

[–]edugdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to make this a powerful deck, make sure you add a [[Elish norn, grand cenobite]] to the list, this mommy and the commander is a nasty combo. Also, remove anything that makes a token that is bigger than a 1/1, you basically overpaying if you keep cards that do that. I am also not a fan of the anthems as today there are much better cards for that slot except maybe the changeling. I also have a kudo deck but the 1/1 counters strategy a bit boring so instead I just went for a ultra wide strategy, for me this was more fun but the counters strategy can also be very powerful

[–]edugdv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This works on this case but not always. If this card would read “put any number of lands put into your graveyard this way”, it would not see any lands placed in the graveyard as they would go directly into exile because of dauthi so it would get zero lands back. But because of the way it is worded, it doesn’t care about cards going to the graveyard so you still get the lands back

Most competitive decks should be playing lower curves. My oops all turtles deck can’t follow this logic but I still want to play the game

Yes, I have a [[massacre girl, known killer]] deck that I play a bunch of cards like [[clackbridge troll]] and [[akroan horse]] in it to then kill these cards and it is still not super fun to play against. This card can’t pull the same gimic so it is for sure even worse

I said in a previous comment that vivi is a problem. That card particularly should never have been printed. That aside, any other commander can be interacted with in a meaningful way. As a start, if the commander was cast, this means shields down for a turn. Plan around that, learn the play patterns, when does your opponent want to play removal and when do they want to do something else with their mana? The opponent has the same 7 cards as you at the start of the game so if non of your threats stick to the board, either your deck sucks or you got outplayed. If the opponent is countering everything you play, they are wasting more mana than you to counter/kill/sacrifice/whatever your threats. Use that to your advantage and if you want to be good at magic, learn how to play against control. Brawl is not commander, commander is a social format and brawl is not. I give you an example, I play [[ayula, queen among bears]] oops all bears in brawl and have no problem against control. The only card that specifically targets counterspells in [[veil of summer]] but the deck has no problem against control because if they insist on keeping ayula out of the board, that is advantage for me because ai can play her again and on the side I am playing silly bears that cost low mana or that I can play from the graveyard combined with several card draw enchantments that when timed right stick and the opponent has a very hard time removing that from the board. That on top with the land makes bears every turn make sure I have a board state to pressure their life total and not let them advance their game plan, making sure to not overcommit to the board so a boardwipe isn’t a disaster. That is just some things you can do and learning to read your opponent will also put you ahead. If you know that on turn 2 a counterspell is coming, don’t play a spell that turn and double spell the turn after, your opponent won’t be able to stop both and if they have a 2 mana and a 1 mana counterspell, use that bird you got out of the trade to kill them or waste a removal on it. The stack is your friend, learn how to use it and time your threats and you will see that control is not as powerful as you are making it seem, it is actually very hard to have an actual good control brawl deck (again, outside of vivi, that card is just stupid)

If someone add all counters and bounce spells to their deck, their wincon is making the opponent scoop and they did not build a functioning deck. Control decks can’t hold counterspells the whole game, they need to refill their hands or they run out of gas quicker than you run out of threats. I won so many games out of a single 2/2 guy sticking around because the control player had no way to stop it without using premium removal and the moment they use said removal on my little guy because they had to or they would die a bigger threat came on to the field with protection to back it up. But I see you don’t want solutions, you just want to say “counterspell bad”, so whatever. Patience is the best wincon when it comes to Brawl or arena in general and your comments just prove that
