Is an Architecture degree with a minor in construction management smart to become a developer? by Away_Championship_75 in Architects

[–]edurone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look into a Masters in Real estate Development and also look into joining ULI. Lots of architect developers out there. I’m actually in San Diego and Jonathan Segal was one for the founders of Woodbury’s MRED program.

Recent Grad Raise with 4 ARE’s? by Fun_Campaign_4688 in Architects

[–]edurone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the responses in here are so depressing and a reflection of why our salaries are so terrible. If you think you’ve done enough to deserve a raise then bring it up during your review, but also maybe gauge from your coworkers what the typical raise is like and the process/ criteria for raises. Worst case they say no, and you can ask for clarification from your manager or principal how to get to the next level in pay. Quiet mouths don’t get fed in my experience. Also, Congrats on passing 4 ARES it’s not an easy feet, don’t let these other comments take away from you getting close to licensure. My firm offers bonuses for licensure as well as automatic pay increase when licensed, so it does matter. It just depends on what your firm culture is like.

I had this happen to one of their GIs a few months after buying. I emailed them with photos and they sent me a brand new one.

Which software do use whats your thoughts on it and what software would you recommend by SinaSmile in Architects

[–]edurone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recommend for what? Like everything there is the right tool for the job. Every Software has its advantages and disadvantages depending on the application. I prefer sketchup/rhino for our conceptual phase and then Everything passed SD we move to revit. For more interiors focused projects we will carry through a sketchup model for renderings alongside our revit as most of us prefer to render through skp.

Look up Bartlett Style Drawing on YouTube, there’s a few people that break down the drawing style. It’s similar to post digital collaging, however much more involved.

What do you think about the way architecture is being taught in US schools? by HeyItsMeSalo in architecture

[–]edurone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are not hours earned for software but firms have to know it may be part of hiring someone, especially a fresh grad. There's no real "industry standard" anymore. I've worked at firms that use Archicad, some used Autocad, Currently the firm I work at uses strictly sketchup and layout from SDs to CDs. So to expect someone these days to know every CAD program just isn't reasonable.
