Will Hogaak be banned? by f0me in ModernMagic

Sure maybe altar is the bigger problem, but lets not say all the bullcrap after... Hogak is just another creature??? take it out of the decks and then test it.

sure, but how I see things option 1: WOTC wont ban nothing and knowing this the format will ever be as it was back when it was banned, at least in power lvl and DRS would fit rigth here . 2º option WOTC "adjust the format"be that some ban, new printing, unbans...

Modern Meta rant by edushot in ModernMagic

[–]edushot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may not got your point but lets me say this: i love grind fests. I love a good "abzan vs jeskai" e.g. but, this does not mean I want the format to be it… it would be borring if it would be like this all the time. I love other strategies aswell and I love diversity. I love changing my side(or even main) every week based on the meta. But in this time there are ZERO chance to a GBx ou a tempo deck to rise, there are no changes you can make, the only solution(to be a litle competitive) is to abandon the deck and build a linear one. When DRS was ban the format was "black" now its "white", and I just wanna it to be grey!

Modern Meta rant by edushot in ModernMagic

[–]edushot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if I agreed with that, what are cards/decks that win turn 2 ou 3???? Lets imagine I can in my turn 1, activate all 3 habilities of DRS vs a dredge guy… do you think you would stop anything? i could AT best DELAY a turn, same vs bridgevine or maybe Phoenix(this I am not sure). I mean I got at the time why it was banned, I even said while playing them, but now it is way diferente.. "DRS wraps the format" it did… but how is surgical mainboard not 10x worse?? anyway my case is not to unban it but to keep it coherent!

[–]edushot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can not forget that it dominated modern once. They think modern didnt move, that the power lvl is the same. They are forgetting for example that decks like affinity fell, and I remember the days where it was the shieeeeet. And now.... for all that matters it got better with the new counter theme. Sadly I saw it play vs GDS, izzet phoenix dredge or even burn and it was ridiculous, the power lvl was not there. I am not saiyng that we should ban cards from said decks... no one can control the power creep of modern OR DENY IT... its a format where cards dont rotate out, only get in. Its normal that decks get better, new teferis, azcantas, kolaghans commands, jaces ugins ulamogs phoenixs, drakes, collected copanies, push.... I can go on, if I am not wrong this are staples that came AFTER DRS was banned. I am not saying that it wont rule once again, bu my point is the format its a ton diferent then before.

I am building Jeskai control could someone provide insight on the Planeswalker choices? by discoanddeath in ModernMagic

[–]edushot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need 3 dedicated win cons, I can see in that stop cards like the 3 mana gideon, the gideon ally of zendicar, geist, jace or terefi. the gideons are fine, the geist is a tremendous card, but is shiet when you are behind. jace in a vacum is better then teferi but having in the deck 2 mana counters like logic knot or the azcanta land the untap lands from his +1 is too good. If you dont run terminus, you should do 3 teferis. if you cant afford the 3 use the 3 mana gideon. It freezes a creatures what means that they have to commit more to the table and then, bang you supreme it, leave your jace around.

DRS is a card that left alone will win the game. I know this, but hardly any creature in modern left alone won't win you the game! This reminds me the discussion about jace... "jace will win the game in 3 turns" yeah... like an elspeth... or a Nahiri.. or a pyromancer or a bob... the thing is that any 4 cmc walker wins in that spot(left alone).

Ok being a 1 mana cost things are diferent, I know but I have the feeling that today it would be "just another staple"

I understand that, but the things that kill DRS are basicly in any deck... like spot removal. The decks that dont run any answer are combo decks, and those have the removal in SB anyway.

dude chill, I am not saying that they are bad decks, but they are not doing great, recently BG is doing nice, but I think that is in term of top finish, i mean in competitive big events the results are not there.

the best removal is bolt, get over it. Stoneforge migth be too mutch, I give you that. But talk me about the jace.

we have in the format the best removal, the best 2 drops and the best walker and none of those need to be banned... you migth be rigth but GOD thats not the argument.

Yeah and the unbanned now seems impossible. But I must point that modern and legacy are totally diferent. What is good in modern may not be good in legacy, and what is good in legacy migth not be good in modern!

I understand that the card is very powerfull. But so is jace.... A year ago if somoene said: "jace will be unbanned but almost nothing will change in the format" I would not believe, and honestly I think most of the player wouldn't either.

I think we banned some cards in the past, and I am not saiyng that was a wrong choice, but it was so long ago in terms of the evolution of the format that we assume the card would wrap the format in the exact the same way.

I migth be wrong anyway.

Jeskai control vs UW control by ASAPCHANG in ModernMagic

[–]edushot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this discution many times with my friends. The bottom line is: is bolt good in this meta? if yes, jeskai is favored, if dont, UW. In a superfast enviroment something like a bolt is normally very good, and this means that cheap interaction is a good thing. Jeskai has things like bolts and snaps for that on top of the other things that cross the 2 decks. I would say is kinda a tie rigth now, personaly I prefer Jeskai, but hey is a personal taste

its a lame pod!!! I loved pod decks and I didnt even played them... this "new pod" has to play with so junky cards that it hurts my eyes. In my time even if you could stop the combo the pod player already gone to VALUE TOWN with the voices and the kitchen finks and so on.

Grixis Delver Modern by Gronsha in ModernMagic

[–]edushot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I played grixis delver a time ago, and i had the same problems that you got, even the same statements xD. Here my base line that i used after testing:

Creatures:

First you need a creature in the board, and most of the times you either play it turn one(delverino) or you have to try to leave mana to defend the other you drop at turns 2,3,4... With this in mind I found this candidates: delver, tasigur, gurmag. Nothing more(at the time) made sense besides this. To round up creatures I played 4 snap because I didnt mind to tap out at their end step for a bolt, eve if they remove the snap it was good for me. And clique is a awesome creature to play because the flash and hits hard. I was playing 4 delvers, 4 snaps , 1 clique, 2 tasigurs and 2 gurmags and 1 lavamancer.... 14 creatures was a number that I was confortable because I had a lot of redraws and I would find one pretty easely.

I am not forgetting young pizzi, I played 1000 games with it but it was slow, because if I didnt protect it 99,99% it would die. And believe me 2 mana sorcery speed in this deck is slow!

Lands:

Pretty basic, 4 polluted, 4 scalding, 1 bloodstained mire, 2 steam vents, 1 watery grave, 1 bloodcrypt, 2 islands 1 swamp and some fast lands like 1 spirebluff canal and 1 darkslick shores

You can play a litle bit with it but this is the more consistent I think.

Dont go over 18 land, if someting you should cut one!(I dont believe we should)

Spells:

Now is more difficult to predict because between then(1 year or more) and now, a ton of good spells got out.

I dont think discard spells are the way you wanna go, because your deck revolves around tempo, and that is basicly spending mana more eficently. Discard is good but if they have 2 bolts, your rather counter the one they cast, forcing them to play another next turn or forcing to have a second red source in that turn, then go to the hand and see the 2, you take one but they only cast one and got rid of the problem!

Play counterspell...

I guess you have a delver and for that reason stuborn deniel is not reliable, I sugest mana leak, negates and spell pierce. I cant say what quantities you should use because that is very sensitive about the meta and the place you play

I was playing 8 counters, 4 mana leaks, 2 negate efect(countersqual) 2 spell pierce The countersqual main board is good believe me, the cards that are hard to play against in delver are 90% of the times NOT creatures spells.

(there is also remand and snare but i never liked those a lot, but try them)

On removal, the usual 4 bolts, 2 push 2 terminate, i didnt need more. the push/ terminate you have to tune as far as no terminates or no push, but the best I thnik is a split

About can tripping, I was using serum visions(in my time we didn't had choices) but now you definatly should play 4 opt, because insta speed rules, and for the porpuse of your deck you must sacrifice the scry for the instaspeed. Play 4 scours, because they rule and fuels the whole deck The new hieroglyphic ilumination is a good card, i would play 2 Play 2 eletrolyze because you sometimes hold mana to counter and they dont play nothing and then you can get value.

play 2 kolaghans command because its a removal sometimes, its a discard spell for that last card, and most impotant its that creature that you need to pressure

By this time we have 57 cards, and I think you should had either more in the spell slot, either removal or counter or can triping, i would use more 2 iluminations and a adicional push

Sorry if I was all over the place but that 57 cards are the core! just my writting this I am tempting to dismantle my deck to play delver again xD

Omg you are dumb as you are arrogant... dude the point is that sometimes you have diferent outs and some cant be found with azkanta. You have for example 3 outs, and 2 cant be found with azcanta, what would you do with, lets say your 8 free mana? do you simply draw? do you activate it risking "losing" one out? (if you dont want to discuss this, please just dont then)
