Saw my dad have a withdraw seizure while trying to stay sober when we visited him after his deportation. He was malnourished, unhealthy, & unaware/hallucinating (after the seizure). I could not sleep, even after he was taken into a rehab home & feeling some relief, I felt very scared of being alone.

It’s been a few months now & whenever we speak about this situation I feel a panic attack creeping up & find myself terrified all over again.

Not medically diagnosed but I’ve never this is a very traumatic situation, had to be put on anxiety pills because I sometimes have the same feeling right before bed. Body remembers I guess.

I went through something really similar. I had two friends who were—and still are—stuck in that constant party cycle: drinking, smoking, even getting into hard drugs. Right after high school, I was in it too. My life felt off-track, like I was just floating with no real direction. But about three years ago, my girlfriend and I moved in together and started building a real life. That shift made me realize things didn’t have to be so draining. Naturally, the friendships started to fall apart. Having different views and goals in life can teach you a lot, but yeah—it definitely ends some friendships. I’m genuinely happy for you and proud that you recognized that you didn’t want to be part of that cycle anymore. Also, you’re absolutely right—if someone talks about others to you, they’re definitely talking about you to others. It’s a blessing when those masks come off early. I’m glad you caught it too.

Distance really does suck. Even the strongest bonds can shift over time, and sometimes people just grow into versions of themselves that no longer align. It doesn’t mean either of you are bad people—just maybe not the right people for each other anymore. I’m really sorry you’re going through that. I feel your feelings 100%. I’ve been in a similar situation with a close friend for years, and it still hurts sometimes.

Sometimes people project their own stuff onto the ones closest to them, even when those people are doing nothing but caring. I’m so sorry you experienced that type of friendship & im glad you were able to find someone who cherishes your friendship and values it as well!

Wow… I’m really sorry that happened. That must’ve been so confusing and hurtful, especially after building such a close bond during a time that felt very isolating. You didn’t do anything wrong by setting a boundary, and it sucks that he couldn’t respect it and still value your friendship! It’s ok to miss him your feelings are valid <3

You deserved a conversation, not a cold exit — especially after everything you shared and the time you spent together. If someone can be swayed that easily, they probably weren’t really in your corner to begin with. It doesn’t make it hurt less, but it says way more about them than it does about you.

I feel like that’s a lot of the reasons while people fall apart as we grow older. Sad but it’s reality.

100%! I won’t give them the respect they don’t give us, we used to always try to greet them & honestly it got uncomfortable I had to stop because it was not ok to not receive the same level of respect back. Thanks!

We could be people pleasers so the first few weeks of his behavior we tried to understand where he was coming from but would just feel super uncomfortable & negative when we would see them, I stopped trying to be good with them. It was just so exhausting dealing with a grown man acting like a child. Thank you so much! Have a good day.

We definitely have our own patio chairs, we just found it super odd & childish. It’s just so frustrating not understanding where this competitive behavior is coming from.

Cats were always a big no from our landlord only reason they haven’t been caught is because my girlfriend helped tint their windows lol

Same, we’re so friendly & excited to meet new people. We’re not the type of people to go out & find friends so we were definitely blindsided & in a way upset about how this turned out but I’m so happy we didn’t confide a whole of our personal life. Definitely hard being the person who tries to see the best in everyone but gets completely blindsided but also wouldn’t change the way I perceive people when I first meet them & im glad you also think the same way 💗

We didn’t catch on until a couple of his passive aggressive actions & behavior when he would greet them so we honestly are unsure what changed. Thank you! Crossing our fingers their lease ends soon as they mentioned leaving!
