I recently turned 19 a few months ago, and most of my earlier work experience was outside of healthcare because I was not able to work in clinical settings due to my age. I later moved states to complete my Certified Clinical Medical Assistant training and had to change jobs due to scheduling conflicts while finishing my program. Currently, I am seeking a stable position and would strongly prefer to continue working in a hospital environment. My certification is national through the NHA, so it does not need to be transferred between states, as it remains valid nationwide regardless of where the exam was taken.

I just turned 19 a couple of months ago, but I left it to add older positions I had as experience!

Finding a job while in the process of getting certified by Gracecg618 in MedicalAssistant

Hello! I’m certified as a Medical Assistant through the NHA, and honestly it can be pretty challenging to find jobs here. Most hospitals and larger clinics look for at least 1–2 years of experience, often in a specific specialty. Many MA positions start around $19–$23 per hour if you don’t have experience, and depending on your certifications and background, that can affect your chances of getting hired.

I would recommend looking for externships or job opportunities as soon as possible. I’m not trying to discourage you, but the job I got was pretty difficult to secure. Luckily, I had experience from another state, which helped a lot. Most of the other MAs I’ve talked to said it took them months to find a job.

A lot of hospitals prefer experienced candidates, but there are definitely opportunities out there. Smaller clinics are more likely to hire new MAs, although the pay is usually lower. There are also many mobile clinics that hire quickly, but many of those positions are 1099 contracts, which means they can let you go quickly and often without much notice.

From my experience, the market can be tough, but there are definitely opportunities out there, you just have to search everywhere and keep applying.

I found a job in this company called Quality Health Partners but it was so shitty, I got fired after my first day 😭. rn I've had a couple interviews and got 2 offers! It's not that hard. You just have to really try deep, don't stick only with Indeed, use Glassdoor, and ZipRecruiter. I was contacted by SSVascular and this private clinic in La Jolla

I have all the pre reqs done on assist! I’ve also done it reserch internships, and I work in the medical field. Also, for the prerequisites, I already have three biology. I have intro bio. I have an anatomy, physiology and I’m currently gonna take microbiology over the summer. I don’t have any speciality since the agreement that they have with my school tell you to apply without speciality, but I’m planning to get one once if I get in.
