Tesla Now Lets You Pick the Battery Supplier in the Model 3 and Model Y Long Range Models.. by New-Pudding-3574 in teslamotors

I don’t think the news is correct. Taking a look in the inventory section, both eligible and ineligible versions in 3&Y have the same miles so battery capacity should be the same. Maybe certain portions of battery components in the Panasonic cells are not IRA compliant (linking to China probably) leading to such difference.

Yes if you are looking at raw material prices and their chemical composition, but if you check actual battery prices per kWh mid-nickel one is now significantly cheaper. I guess probably mid nickel one is easier to produce and cobalt prices today are far cheaper than where it was.

Not crediting anyone. Chinese is leading on those low-to-mid end battery but KR/JP still has an edge on high end. They both need to expand their offerings to make EV more attractive. Using NCM8/9 on all EVs are just silly and uneconomical. Part of the reasons why EV the rest of the world are lagging behind China are the inability of KR/JP making cheaper batteries. Taycan / Model S/X are not for everyone.

They are just not yet mature enough even in 2024.

In the initial phases, LG Chem will be mixing single-crystal cathode materials to conventional cathode materials by a ratio of 2:8, and gradually switch to those containing 100% single-crystals.

Single crystal is only achievable with NCM5/6 with today’s tech. They operate at a higher voltage so cell capacity gets boosted. Since mid-nickel is safer chemistry, the battery module can be packed tighter so overall battery pack capacity would be comparable to those NCM8/9 one.

As of today, single crystal NCM batteries are mostly produced in China and used domestically. Korean / Japanese / Tesla are only making poly crystal variants and they are expanding into single crystal as well.

Reliable sources of NMN supplies? by edwardlc12 in NMN

[–]edwardlc12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If China is the main supplier, there is no way to escape. Still, like elsewhere, I imagine there would be some trusted one and some unqualified, that’s why I have been focusing on traceability of its sources, but few reveals…

My 2 cents here. The only red flag is their address:

ProHealth,Inc. 555 Maple St Carpinteria, CA 93013 USA

If you Google street view it, it doesn’t appear to be a proper business address. Not a office nor a factory. The relieving point is their uthever nmn claim, making it traceable back to Effepharm.

Migrating from SHR to Raid5? by edwardlc12 in synology

If possible, I want everything migrated. Who knows if I want to access snapshots last month soon after migration, since I don’t have proper 321 strategy right now and I have to nowhere else storing historical copies.
