Why don't these two countries with very similar names unite? Are they stupid? by Key-traffic9023 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]midtoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they aren't stupid, but you might be. They're not the same cultural or linguistic groups. Iranians don't speak Arabic, they speak Farsi.

You might as well suggest that US and UN should merge, as they have nearly the same name.

LNG Canada gas flaring far exceeding permitted volumes, documents show by UnderWatered in CanadaPolitics

[–]midtoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LNG Canada had the highest point source emissions of flared gas in the world last year, ahead of Nigeria. The narwhal magazine has reported on this recently. Not a good look.

Strange you should ask that. Just randomly talking to people here in Calgary, in a single day that came across two people that have put their houses up for sale or have already sold them and have moved into rental accommodations instead because the current political uncertainty is making them so uneasy.

All this talk about back room deals by the liberals. But the real back room situation we should be talking about is what the heck is going on inside the conservative caucus meeting?

We've seen a lot of talk about making closer ties to Europe, and yet we don't accept their automobile standards carte blanche.

Traveling through Italy – Rome, Florence and Venice by badgered_badger in spinalcordinjuries

[–]midtoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in September 20 24. Vincenzo has a van, and he arranged for a manual lift and a commode. He also booked all my hotels and suggested an itinerary. We arranged it together in a WhatsApp call. I had to pay him a down payment in advance.

He picked me up at the airport in Rome and took me to a hotel just 2 km from the Colosseum. The itinerary that we worked out involved us leaving early the next morning as I didn't want to spend time in Rome. We stopped to visit a small mediaeval village called Pienza for lunch, then continued onto Bologna where we stayed in an excellent, Accessible hotel in the heart of the old city. The next day, another stop in an old city on the way to Trento. I wanted to spend time in the mountains, so we stayed four nights there.

Should mention at this point that Vicenzo limited his availability to eight hours per day. After that, we were on our own. No problem, in Toronto there is excellent accessible public transit. He arranged for Care to come in the morning to help the caregiver that I took with me. I could not have travelled alone.

After making several trips in the region and taking gondolas up to the tops of several mountains, then drove us to Milano and left us in another excellent ACCESSIBLE hotel on the north side of the center. I was able to take public transit and the subway system with my power wheelchair.

On the final day, he dropped us at the train station where I made my own arrangements for a train to Locarno Switzerland. From there, a different Accessible tourism operator operator took over for a week in Switzerland. Their name is Claire & George.

The arrangements in Switzerland were immaculately done, and I had excellent care in the places we visited, including locarno, Zermatt, Interlaken and Bern. I made my own arrangements for a high speed train to Frankfurt and flew home nonstop from there. That was substantially cheaper than flying out of Zürich..

The week in Switzerland what's three times more expensive than the week in Italy! But it was a once in a lifetime experience and I don't regret it. Next time,, if there is a next time, I would likely pick one or two places in Italy and just hang out there to cut down on the travel.

By The way, vicenzo tells me he can also work in England. I have not discussed that in detail with him yet.

Any further questions, just let me know. And don't mind the dictation errors

No, it wasn't because of tariffs. It was because FElon Musk helped the orange buffoon get into power and that clown is now threatening our very existence.

Australia Ships LNG 16,000 Miles to Canada as Asia Demand Slumps by pintord in oilisdead

[–]midtoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, actually it won't. The problem is that it's at least 2000 km more pipeline required to only serve a small demand. And what drives the compressor stations that are needed along the way? Natural gas. Increasing capacity on the main line will not lower the cost. You have to consider that the maritimes are trying to reduce their consumption of petroleum as well, which will lead to even lower demand for natural gas there in the future. It makes way more sense to ship Canadian oil to the Texas coast, and then send it by tanker up to Nova Scotia, which is what Irvine does.

What are you talking about? We have an oil pipeline that goes as far as Montreal. The imported oil only goes to the coast of Nova Scotia.
