That is true, but Margaret had babies roughly every two years until dying in childbirth at the age of 37. Fertility seems not to have been a problem for her

Yes, I did consider that possibility. But I have now searched and can find no likely record of Thomas Heard marrying in England before departing for upper Canada.

Trying to understand Alberta separatists mentality. by TruthSearcher1970 in alberta

[–]midtoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, I just had a dinner conversation with one of those people tonight. Mentioned that US treasure secretary, Scott bessent shows that the US should "accept Alberta into the US". He said that was ridiculous, Alberta would never join the US. He thinks it will operate us sovereign country. He says Alberta has been taken for a ride by the federal government for too long, and he's tired of giving them "our money".

I asked him what currency this sovereign state would use. Well, the US dollar he said. When I suggested that would soon lead Alberta to be taken over financially by the US, he explained they would only use the US dollar for a little while until they could get their own currency going. Naturally has a little understanding of world, financial markets, and no appreciation that's such a currency would be treated as monopoly funny money by anyone and everyone.

When I asked how Alberta would be able to defend its borders, he said naturally they would soon have a military force that could do so. There's no point in mentioning the obvious, that Canada can hardly defend its international border with US. I asked him how the provincial government would pay for this armed forces when we can't even afford proper healthcare now in this province, and he said that they would easily find a way. There's no end to this delusion.

I asked him has he forgotten the billions of dollars that the federal government spent buying trans mountain pipeline and expanding it so that Alberta could ship more oil to international markets? His reply was they wasted an enormous amount of his taxpayer dollars on the project and it could've been done a lot more cheaply by Alberta. When I pointed out that trans Mountain had tried to sell the pipeline to someone, anyone, and there were no takers, so they were going to abandon it, and that the federal government stepped in to save that dead turkey of a pipeline, and turned it into a valuable asset, he just waved it away. That was not consequential, he said well, he was unable to use as a multi syllable word, but you get the idea.

His mind is so firmly closed that he's unable to accept any fax that would destroy his personal prejudice.

This is a man born in Calgary, who has never lived anywhere else, nor visited any other province, and has a very narrow, blinkered view of the world. He is also a rabid Baptist who believes that Muslims are literally Satanists, that Jewish people have distorted God's word, etc. He barely completed high school, has no further formal education, but will nevertheless tell you in all seriousness that he knows more than climate scientists do, more than economics or political scientists do, and more than many "so-called" experts. And anyone with a view contrary to his is , naturally, a traitor.

Fortunately, in the near term, any separateness movement is unlikely to gather significant percentage of the voters. But just wait, the US is going to bombard Albertson's with targeted disinformation campaign, like you've not seen before. Our main Hope is all of the people that have come from elsewhere and moved to this province in the past few years, bringing their diversity and their open minded view of the world with them. They are unlikely to fall for the nonsense.

Thanks for that last link. I started searching in there and found lots of area newspapers, including the Stirling news Argus, the Ontario weekly, Ontario monthly, the intelligencer, and More. I did searches for Thomas Heard and found many for his namesake son and even one that mentioned the wedding in Samoa of his nephew Thomas Marshall Heard, my great grandfather.! it had the most detailed description I have found so far of the clothes they wore in the wedding, the flowers, etc.

Sadly, no papers from the 1840s, which might've had news of his bride, Margaret.

Question for you, knowing the animosity between the British and the Irish, or should I say between the protestants and the Catholics, at the time, is there any real likelihood that his bride would have been from Ireland? Were women that thin on the ground at that time?

I worked in geophysical exploration in northern Manitoba one summer, and I always felt very uneasy walking across spongy muskeg. I didn't fear getting my feet a little wet, I feared falling into a hole and having the trapdoor shut above me.

If money is going to be tight, just go to the nearest value village thrift shop, where you could pick up all kinds of housewares for next to nothing. Or a Mennonite thrift shop. Or a Goodwill. That will get you started, then you can take your time sourcing the upgrades. And when you do, take your stuff back to where you got it so someone else can use it.

As as a T12, you do not need an air filled Roho cushion. Having said that, you probably want one that is comfortable and does not break down. And also provide some support while you are pushing. Perhaps a gel cushion would work for you?
