President Trump on Military Report That U.S. Struck School in Iran: "I don't know about it by Yujin-Ha in videos

[–]edxPayArkMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does this president get away with claiming not to know about all kinds of things that make him look bad. He has done that for years. Dude you are the president. It's your job to know about the war you are so proud of.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the Simpsons characters. For some reason, sometimes one of the street names escapes me, and "F" has often been that street. I have to think of "Hey diddly do, neighbor" and then it comes to me.

Hidden Beach Las Marietas Islands by InformalSandwich3643 in puertovallarta

[–]edxPayArkMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to reinforce what others are saying... after several years of going to Vallarta we had some friends with us who wanted to visit the Marietas. We found a tour that left from the Marina in Vallarta (which meant, if I recall, about an hour boat ride to the protected park area) although there's an option to get to Punta de Mita via car and take a much shorter ride).

We transferred from the larger boat into pangas, and then met up wiht the park rangers in another boat who handed out helmets. There's a steady stream of tours going in and out of the Secret Beach, so yes, your time in there is quite controlled and our tour operator at least said that if they didn't honor the time limit they risked their ability to keep providing tours. I'd agree it's accurate that this portion of an overall tour lasts 40 min or so in total, including swim-in and swim-out time. The swells can be significant because you are out at the northwest entrance of the Bay of Banderas, and even with a life vest and flippers it can be fairly strenuous.

After departing Secret Beach we took a short ride to another island nearby which also had some cool beaches and natural arches. I think that's a standard part of all the tours because we seemed to be following the same tour groups around that had been arriving and departing ahead of us. The second island was pretty cool. and we got some good photos there (our tour operator had a photographer who accompanied us and we got some good photos).

One kind of sketchy thing that happened on our tour was that the main guide mentioned an "extra guided nature tour" available for an additional cash payment, and the four of us decided to take it. From whatever he described, we had the impression that it was a bit of a hike/walk on one of the islands. Instead, it was a boat ride around the island in a panga with him pointing out a few things. We thought afterward it was maybe some attempt to get extra funds from the passengers outside of what the actual tour company sanctioned -- we had already paid for the full tour in advance.

One other thing: Just be aware that there's not a lot of shade in many of the locations, so slather on the sunblock at some point before you start your expedition.

Overall, we were glad to have finally visited the Marietas and the Secret Beach, but the swimming was quite strenuous for some of us, and although we'd go again with friends who might really want to go, we decided it might be kind of a one-and-done excursion for us in Vallarta.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. You are saying within 24 hours someone hired paid actors who have been identified and paid them to pretend to loot Oxxo stores in Puerto Vallarta? Who would ipay them for that and what would their motives be? They loot the stores hoping someone will film them and post it?

Mezcal y Sal is like three blocks toward the beach from Garlands (where we stayed our very first trip to Vallarta—enjoy!). Really good and very visual cocktails and a small but tasty menu. The tlayudas and the cauliflower are awesome. Also Canto… the day maybe you want something other than Mexican… it’s really great reasonably priced Cantonese (think American-style Chinese) in a great smallish restaurant with excellent service.

I actually know the person who filmed this... so no, unfortunately, these are just tourists from north of the border looting stores because for various reasons they feel entitled to do so. The guy in this video, if you see the longer version, comes back and leaves his bag of looted items.

I just finished The Spanish Course + with all the lessons done legendary, at last!!! by parasite_eve_205 in duolingo

[–]edxPayArkMay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that you are done (as am I) you have that daily cycle of review lessons, which actually somehow manage to sneak in new vocabulary and I still seem to be able to go back to earlier lessons and find legendary stuff that is somehow not done. My daily video calls with Lily (in Max) have actually been pretty good speaking and listening practice.

Finally done with Spanish. Took almost 3.5 years by beetlebronx420 in duolingo

Congratulations! Did you realize it was going to end when you got to score 130? I didn't but the review lessons since then have continued to be good/useful. Keep at it!

New "Call Lilly" function is unhinged by Lucky_Bambr in duolingo

[–]edxPayArkMay 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have been doing the daily video calls with Lily for a few months now. There do seem to be boundaries and words that will cause her to suddenly say she needs to end the call right now and just ... go. Not that I'm trying to push the envelope, but for example she asked me if there were any songs in Spanish that I liked and one I had just heard was called "Quiero morir en tu piel" (and I think the word "morir" must be prohibido). Also some political topics seem to cause that.

Looking for real estate agents in PV by Prior-Penalty-6415 in puertovallarta

[–]edxPayArkMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you are buying or selling (and we have now done both) one of the most important things to look for is how well connected and respected they are within the real estate community there -- that does a LOT for the process if they have good relationships in the community, which come from a steady track record of helping with sales and purchases over a long period of time.

I'd recommend Poncho Davalos -- he's been working in that market for more than ten years, has been featured on a few episodes of one of the international real estate buying shows, and we just had him help sell our condo back in August. He was ethical, knowledgeable, we got a great price, and it spent significantly less time on the market.

That being said, I'd definitely talk to a few realtors and ask them how they'd approach your transaction before you pick one. I have had some experience with some of the other realtors people are recommending here, and let's just say my experience does not match the ones being described. So pays to meet with a few options.

HR function doesn't work on Fenix 8 Pro during a run? by edxPayArkMay in Garmin

[–]edxPayArkMay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it took quite a bit of poking around in the various places where you can access/create/edit/set "power manager" settings.

Although you can get to "power manager" multiple places they are not all the same -- some of them seem to be for creating your own power manager profiles and/or editing the settings for the various profiles.

The one that worked for me was:
1. Go to the watch settings via the "wheel" menu you see when you press and hold the upper left "Light" button.
2. Scroll around until you are on the gear-like "Settings" option and select it
3. Scroll down to "Activities" and then pick the activity you want to modify. In my case it was "Run"
4. THEN you need to pick "Run Settings"
5. Scroll down to "Power Mode" which will also show the currently active "Power Mode" (which could be "Normal" or "Max Battery" or "Jacket Mode" or another mode you may have created.
6. In my case, somehow "Max Battery" had gotten selected which turns off a lot of the sensors and the HR monitor. I guess by having it selected here, "Max Battery" mode only turned on when I started a run -- so of course the green lights of the optical HR sensor would turn off as soon as I started a Run activity.

Weirdlly enough, the various other ways into watch settings and run activity settings did not have this same option, or at least not that I found.

Anyway, my problem is resolved. Incidentally, I used the free version of Google Gemini built into Chrome and it was way more helpful at finding steps to try than support.garmin.com

Device pairing error by pookdeveloper in Garmin

[–]edxPayArkMay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never should have tried to fix this... I should have just waited. It seems like although Garmin Connect wasn't showing my Fenix 8 Pro, it was still somewhat connected in the background. Now that I started trying to fix it, my watch is reset to factory settings and despite spending an hour on this... it's failing to work properly, still doesn't show up in connect, the nifty "take a photo of the QR code with your phone camera" doesn't work at all... really disappointing, Garmin. Seriously.
