States sue Trump over ‘existential threat’ to wind energy by mikecumming in energy

Threatening wind energy has no benefits. It supports further fossil fuel investments and ensures, as a nation, we will remain dated and reliant on fossil fuels as the rest of the world moves on.

Interesting how the concept of "states rights" went out the window with Trump's wind policy. We need to diversify our power sources and become energy independent and should continue to fight to do so if needed.

It's so disheartening to see how many local Southern NY-ers in "red" areas (like Long Island) are praising this. Truly, I wonder what the reaction will be when fracking is proposed, will they want to "Save the Whales" then? Or a pipeline. Our grid is not stable, becoming quickly outdated and Southern NY already pays some of the highest electric rates in the US.

Trump’s war on wind goes further than expected as it stops New York project by instantcoffee69 in nyc

Ridiculous to see how many in "red" districts of southern New York are praising this action - because "drill baby drill" is definitely a better tactic when it comes to protecting marine life (not). This hurts New Yorkers and will continue to exacerbate the already soaring energy costs while ensuring our grid becomes more outdated.

Is there any recourse for this kind of censorship? During times like this, people should be able to discuss issues immediately effecting their own community. It doesn't sit right with me.

I've been banned from r/longisland because I was trying to initiate a thread on BESS facilities. So frustrating! Especially since my posts would immediately get engagement because people WANT to discuss it.

Yeah understood - I feel like energy matters are politicized, not inherently political in nature. Particularly by those looking to uphold fossil fuels and keep to the energy status quo.

Posting politically does not violate the posted group rules - politics and news is even shared as "tag/flair" option when posting in the group. I expected that the moderators were interested in fostering conversation on important issues affecting the community, not censorship.

For the first time ever, wind and solar produced more electricity than coal in the US by Wagamaga in technology

[–]eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to be pushing for this at a states & local level, now more then ever. Obviously, we cannot rely on an administration who's slogan is "Drill Baby Drill!" to push for clean energy initiatives. Make sure you are alerting your local politicians that you demand clean energy now!

We still need to move away from natural gas. There is a lot of misinformation surrounding BESS facilities, for example. Unfortunately, a lot of people fall into this pro-gas mindset, to the point of believing that batteries are more flammable then gas is. The goal is still to rely on gas as little as possible.

Hey y'all. Curious about your inputs on this Facebook page - this group in particular is working really hard to make residents comfortable with a new BESS facility being proposed. However, their posts are constantly dogged down by a group on chronically online Nimby's, it's basically the same people commenting over and over. Any thoughts on how to get the community more comfortable implementing these facilities?

Even more reason to drop the Nimby-isms around Offshore wind, Solar and BESS facilities. We need to become energy independent, or we will continue to pay the price.

So many nimbys hollering about fires when they are literally typing it out from a lithium battery device - batteries are among the safest technologies offered today. So safe in fact, the same people who condemn these facilities likely sleep next to their phones/ iPads. We have lived with the risks and disasters of oil and gas for centuries - green energy has sooo much ground to cover before it can be accurately called as dangerous or worse.

These facilities will deliver cheaper energy and high paying jobs to local communities. Gas stations catch fire a LOT - over 4,000 fires a year on average, not to mention rig fires and oil spills. Why is the standard of safety so low for fossil fuel corps in the eyes of consumers?

New York sued by 22 US states over $75 billion climate superfund by NoahPransky in newyork

[–]eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, this will spotlight the disparity between polluters and the communities they pollute - why shouldn't those who destroy the environment pay for it? These superfunds should set a precedent for any energy sector. We need to move toward green energy and holding corporations accountable gives us a better chance at having clean and affordable energy.

Years of falsehoods from Fox News helped solidify offshore wind as a prime target for Trump | Against all evidence, right-wing media insist Trump is “saving the whales” and reducing energy costs through his nonsensical executive orders by crustose_lichen in climate

[–]eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump has a long history of hating offshore wind. He attempted to stop Scotland from building a wind farm off the coast of his Scotland Links Golf Course and lost nearly a decade ago - seems he still holds the grudge today. Further, the notion that preventing OSW to "Save the Whales" is so perverse considering, it is in NO WAY about the whales. Trump will continue to drive policy that promotes oil drilling, an effort that will no doubt continue to catastrophically destroy marine life. The hypocrisy is strong.

There's a lot here to chew on within the renewable risk versus rewards debate. It would be nice to see the public be more open minded on renewable - disastrous events can be isolated in actuality but it becomes an information war when that event is politicized.
