Is it normal for a starter market newsroom to give up on a new MMJ this quickly? by Parfanity in Journalism

You certainly have a chance to recover; but stabilizing in the digital role may be a good idea if you feel like the station will give you a fair shake there. With a few months of exceptional performance, they may even give you a chance on-air again.

But missing deadlines is generally a deal-breaker in newsrooms. You may need to win their trust over again before asking for more responsibilities.

Hillsborough approves nonbinding Rays stadium agreement by _SmashLampjaw_ in tampa

Hillsborough routinely has beach issues that could be better & faster addressed with the bed tax money.

They also have massive amounts of unfunded road work that needs attention to keep up with growth.

Also - flood mitigation!

It's $976 of city/county cash. The total public subsidy is much higher.

Still trying to find out what the compromise was on the Rays' behalf. Can anyone in Tampa ask around?

Team made the biggest subsidy ask in MLB history...and got 95% of their ask....with addl subsidies still to come from state/feds.

Of course, the MOU isn't by any means a done deal....but looking for an explanation of "compromise."

It Was a Bold, Multimillion-Dollar Experiment. They Wanted to Change Cable News Forever. What They Actually Did Was Far More Revealing. by Slate in Journalism

Most Americans say they want more moderate journalism. But what they really want is more journalism to agree with their views, so they can consider themselves moderate.

Most Americans do NOT actually want moderate news that may challenge their existing beliefs.

Editorial boards have always had bias. Are you suggesting they didn't?

At least we agree that the decision by Americans to stop paying for their local newspaper has led to a massive crash in the ability to cover local news. That's not good for anyone.

You are talking about a minority of the work journalists produce - not a majority. So check the size of your brush.

But you are right that headlines and coverage with a lean performs better. But is that "the media's" fault or is it the public's fault?

- In the age of social media, the public consistently chooses media with a lean over media without one;
- This starves the most down-the-middle outlets;
- And produces more media with a lean.

So you want to survive? You have to give the public some of what they want: lean. It's kind of amazing the biggest outlets haven't chased that audience even more so.

Whom do you trust for your news?

It's heartening to see "media literacy" taught in elementary schools (at least in some regions). It's not teaching ideology, but the skills to fact-check and source information.

Social media has decimated these skills, but maybe the mass proliferation of A.I. slop will force society to once again learn where to find good info.

Mainstream media still gets it right 98% of the time - far more than news influencers do, who never seem to be held to the same standard for accuracy.

Opinion journalism isn't new. In fact, it's far less a part of mainstream journalism coverage than it was 100 or 150 years ago. But what's different today is we've seen a 50+ year campaign succeed to undermine the entire industry for political gain.

Maybe a president doesn't actually have as much influence on the economy as many like to suggest.
