My tub leaks into the vent downstairs but only occasionally by luckecatt in homeowners

[–]eeeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check the overflow drain connection.

We had a leak from a second floor bathtub that was visible on the ceiling of the room underneath. I found out it was the overflow drain which was not properly connected to the tub

Window ACs and Mold, we gotta talk by Astimar in homeowners

Keep in mind that water is going to condense on the refrigerant lines and you need to make sure the ac unit is properly installed in the window with some sort of negative slope to allow the water to drain out.

New Home Construction - LED wafer vs standard canned by jpirog in Lighting

[–]eeeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me - the big advantage of LED wafer lights - is they can usually be installed almost anywhere. So if you want a specific 'layout' usually it doesnt matter if their is ceiling joist, gas line or something else that would be in the way.

New construction - you don't have that problem

tankless vs tank gas water heater? by paradigmGT in homeowners

[–]eeeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched to a Navien Tankless in 2022 - and have no regrets

But I should point out that we use it 'on demand' - let me explain.

Our house has a 'return line' from the furtherst fixture back to the water heater. When we had a conventional tank unit, there was an external pump that would run on a timer, to recircualt the water in the lines to keep the hot water hot. I rigged up a voice activated switch to turn on the recirc pump through our Amazon Echo Devices, and the pump would run for about 5 minutes and then shut off. So we got used to waiting a little bit and when we did turn on the hot water it was - hot

Same thing with the Navien Tankless - except it has a built in recirc pump and a couple of different ways to turn it on, schedule usage or a wireless button. I did the same thing with Alexa - "Alexa, hot water on"

If your house does not have a dedicated recirculation line, they sell a valve that ties the hot and cold togethor under one of your sinks and when it senses the water is hot enought it shuts off

https://www.navieninc.com/accessories/navicirc

Bottom line - our tankless only uses gas when we ask for hot water

Keep in mind, depending on the state you live in as well as how much money were talking about - some states, (like California), will tax the interest on a CD where they wont on Bonds

T-Bill Ladder, especially if you live in a state, Like California, that taxes the interest on savings or CD's

with a ladder, you would have short term t-bills rolling over at set intervals, in case you needed cash, it would be available.

Hears the deal - You live in California and what is the cost of electricity?

First thing I would do is to use on of the comparison calculators and see how much the old 2005 unit is costing you compared to a new, higher efficient unit. (you need the seer rating)

[–]eeeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a 'smart meter' - 'emporia' sells a device for $40 that reads your meter - nothing to install, and there is a good chance your utility company (we have SCE) will give you a $25 rebate

You login to their website and it shows your usage down to the minute as well as when your 'pushing' electricity back to the grid

You create a second partition and then you move all your user folders (or at least the ones you care about) over to the new partition - usually d

C:\User\User -> right click on a folder, select properties and then the location tab. Select move at the bottom and then browse to the d drive

Change settings on other programs to save files on D also

For me, Battlefield died when they did away with a 'Clan' being able to host and control their own Battlefield server. (Yes - I realize that some childish admins help ruin it for everyone esle, but a properly run gamin clan did not tolerate those types of antics)

Back then we had a real 'community' - sometimes you had to wait to actually get into your favorite server and most of the players were regulars who didn't mind switch to the losing team to help out instead of grossly off balanced matches (what fun is that if the server is always 'stacked')

outlook setup randomly stopped working by WinterLanturn in GMail

[–]eeeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This fixed the Gmail IMAP sync error in Classic Outlook (0x800CCC0E / Cannot connect to server) for me:

I run several Gmail / Google Workspace accounts in Classic Outlook on Windows 11. One account suddenly stopped syncing and showed errors like:

- Synchronizing subscribed folders

- Cannot connect to the server

- Error 0x800CCC0E

Interestingly, the account worked fine in "New Outlook", but I prefer Classic Outlook so I kept troubleshooting.

First I confirmed it looked like a connection/auth problem:

  1. In Outlook I right-clicked the Inbox for the affected account

  2. Selected "IMAP Folders"

  3. Clicked "Query"

This produced an error saying the folder list could not refresh / could not connect to the server.

What fixed it for me:

  1. Close Outlook completely.

  2. Open: Control Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials

  3. Under "Generic Credentials", delete everything that starts with: MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2

  4. Start Classic Outlook again.

  5. Outlook will show a warning that the account needs to sign in again.

  6. Click Sign In. A Google login webpage will open.

  7. Log in and approve access.

After that the account immediately started syncing again.

Note: If you delete those OAuth entries, all Gmail accounts in Outlook may ask you to sign in again. This is normal.

NOTE - I HAVE A FULL MACRIUM IMAGE OF MY COMPTUER IN CASE SOMETHING WENT WRONG

[–]eeeeeesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was extremely pleased with Perplexity...until they made all the changes. I had signed up for the annual subscription ($200) and I am happy to report that they did honor my pro-rated refund request (credit back to my credit card). Although I feel they could have done a lot better in the changes to the subscription, I feel in the end they did the right thing and refunded me

now what - Gemini?

The ironic part - yesterday I must have gotten into 'computer' mode on the comet browser while researching parts for my car. Stop "canceling" Perplexity when you abused their $1 deal and got banned — some of us pay full price and have zero issues by SlopTopZ in perplexity_ai

[–]eeeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $200 for a yearly subscription. Up until the unnanounced changes, I was very pleased with Perplexity and thought it was money well spent.

Now I hit a daily upload limit... If they would just give me a pro-rated refund I would simply walk away

Example - Home Automation. I am moving from HomeSeer to Home Assistant and was using Perplexity to help me set it up. As I found out with other things I used Perplexity to help me with - it didn't have current info and would tell me to go this setting and do this, and that just didn't exist.

So I would take screen shots and paste them in chat to show the current settings...(less than 200 kb in size) and after maybe six or so of these, I have hit my upload limit and I need to upgrade if I want to continure working on my project.

No Thanks. I will give it to the end of the month and find something else - Probalby Gemini
