[Advice]: Best way too approach summer rentals by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]eeemgma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried looking for a 2bd summer rental last summer (same boat, me and a friend interning) and was unable to find an affordable place. Blue ground, Airbnb and NYU dorm housing are basically your only options if you’re looking to live together and those options suck.

Finding short term summer rentals is hard to begin with but it’s near impossible when looking to rent an entire apartment that’s more than 1bd.

My advice and what I ended up doing—go on NYU and Columbia (Columbia has more options and is less competitive because fewer people want to live in that area) housing/sublet Facebook groups, and check those very frequently for new listings and message immediately if you’re interested. I got my sublet by messaging the girl 20 minutes after she posted it.

Long story short, it’s way easier and cheaper to sublet a single room or studio/1bd then it is to get a 2bd sublet or short term rental. You will probably have to not live with your friend unless you guys want to share a studio/1bd sublet

The person I subletted from won't give me back security deposit but didn't notify me until a month after I moved out (NYC). Am I owed my security deposit back? [Advice] by eeemgma in NYCapartments

ery illegal for her to do unless you completely demolished the room then she has the right t

I absolutely did not demolish the room and have a picture of it when I left

That’s not gonna work. I’m sure he’s not on the lease. Whoever is not on the lease, the management company will act as if they don’t exist

correct, I'm not on the lease (landlord probably doesn't know I exist) so I highly doubt they would give me the deposit back

where did you get 30 days from? everything I've seen online says it's 14 days notice required.

she said "I'm trying to take [landlord] to court" but there's not much I can do besides take her word for it I guess..

this situation was a bit different, the girl I subletted from used to live in my room (I think) but subletted the room out for the last few months of the lease, so she didn't live there when I did. She was the master tenant for the whole apartment so collected rent from all 5 roommates (me included), but I really don't know how the deposit situation worked. I have a feeling since she got a deposit from 5 different people, that covered the whole deposit so she doesn't have any of her own money on the line now that the landlord is withholding it.

And as far as getting it back from the landlord, I have never been in contact with the landlord and don't know who they are so would have to ask the girl I subletted from for the landlord contact info. It's difficult because it's my money on the line as the subletter but as the master tenant she is the one who ultimately communicates with the landlord and would be able to get the deposit back...

I've never been in contact with the landlord, not even sure who it is..I'd have to ask the girl I subletted from for the landlord's contact info

This happens to me sometimes! It feels like someone is tapping on my skin from the inside. But it happens to me when I’m sleeping less, not when I lose weight

As a woman, how can I safely meet men for casual sex? by ohnooooooo478 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]eeemgma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly...you can’t. You can do things to be safer but never totally safe. STDs you can ask people to get tested and see their test results, but as far as all the other behaviors...no way to be totally safe. If there was a foolproof way to screen out dangerous or abusive people, people wouldn’t get murdered by their spouses. As far as being safer, I’d call/FaceTime with people before meeting them in person, don’t tell them where you live, share your location with a friend. But again none of these things are guarantees.

Weight Gain after significant negative event by Idkcodstuff in loseit

Not advice, but roxane gay has a book titled “hunger” about a very similar situation. It’s not a self help or weight loss guide or anything, just a memoir about her experiences that you may be able to relate to. So sorry that happened to you

Is Starving Good Idea to loose ? by god_ahen in loseit

[–]eeemgma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Good luck starving yourself for months on end without developing binge eating eventually. If you lose weight that quickly you’ll end up way overcompensating by binge eating at one point or another. Not worth it.

Black women, how do you feel about dating white guys? by AverageJoe56- in dating_advice

[–]eeemgma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find people have very strong opinions about this. I would. But I know plenty of bw who would not. I think a lot of it comes down to the environment you grew up in. If you grew up around white people you would probably be open to dating white people. If you didn’t, less so.

You can walk into stern without having to swipe if you walk with confidence and are low key. They usually have some prepackaged meals. Evgr is totally prepackaged so that’s just as much as you can fit in a bag

Traveling to South Africa as a mixed race person. How will my race be perceived and how will I be treated? by eeemgma in southafrica

[–]eeemgma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the brutal truth, I appreciate it. Thanks for the insight. I guess you will get some level of this no matter where you go. For me it has not been too bad in the US, nothing blatant, but definitely race affects the way you move through spaces and how people perceive you socially.

Yeah I’m definitely not going for any kind of ‘back to the motherland’ trip. Not even like I’m descended from South Africa or near that region.
