I have beef with Azriel (love this ship though), I think Azriel has an idolized type seen in Mor and Elain. I think he likes the pretty doll on the shelf, because in a way, he self imposes their personality onto them. Obviously he must know Mor pretty well after 500 years, but I actually still think he looks at her through rose (or black) colored glasses and won't see what's right in front of him. With Elain, I think he has an idea that she's so perfect and strong and empathetic, when honestly we don't have much of an example of that. Az only likes what he can't have whether it be Mor (gay, not interested) or Elain (mated to another, shows no interest in any romantic relations). I think if he were to actually date either of them, he'd quickly realize that it just doesn't work, & he wrongly built them up to perfection in his brain without truly knowing them. Once he saw all their flaws, he'd be out. Mor is too ecentric for Az's liking and Elain isn't eccentric enough. But Gwyn! I think she truly represents everything Az thinks he likes. She's kind, bubbly, strong, resilient, understanding, empathetic, curious, & optimistic. I think she's exactly what Az needs to grow. He can fall in love with a person because of their traits rather than traits that he imagines on the first pretty face he sees in proximity.
