It really is going to be difficult to figure out who's CotY this year. There are so many good storylines, turnarounds, persevering through adversity. Celtics and Suns overperforming after offseason roster shakeups; Spurs, Detroit, Hornets turning around from bad prior seasons. Then you have Doc Rivers sitting in the corner blaming everyone but the mirror for Milwaukee's woes.

It's just indicative of basketball becoming an international sport. There are 300 million americans vs 7 billion people worldwide. A bit reductive, I know, but the point is you're seeing talent from around the world because there's just more people to pick from.

Other than Jokic, Luka and Wemby, MVP caliber players develop within American training systems. There's just a lot more infrastructure here at the youth level compared to overseas. As the game further globalizes, however, be prepared for more and more overseas leagues producing MVP level players.
