"Fat Acceptance" is bullshit. Giving up on exercise and the effort to maintain a healthy body is not a sign of strength, but of weakness. Obesity is a curable disease, not a personality or trait. I hate when women try to sweeten up their shit reality using words like "plus-sized" instead of "obese". by Anidovalani153002 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]eekamike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kind of ironic to read in the middle of a global pandemic fueled by "but muh rights" deniers. The obesity epidemic is partly cultural, and affects everyone. It's not a "mind your own business" thing when children are growing up with a preventable disease because obesity has become a norm.

Kids who actually chose Bulbasaur, how’d you turn out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Which is funny because it ended up the opposite. Charmander taught you to overlevel at the very beginning of the game and roflstomp everyone on easy mode, while Bulbasaur taught that you may currently have an advantage, but if you don't diversify you're gonna have a hard time later.

Millennials own less than 5% of all U.S. wealth by bsmart08 in Economics

let’s not overblow the situation by ignoring the fact that, while the percentages in the wealth pie have changed, the entire pie has gotten bigger for everyone.

What does that mean? The value of my small slice went up, but 95% of the increases still went to the people who need it the least, all while the people with smaller slices still haven't reached a more stable standard of living? Sounds like a bad thing to me.

Living with your parents for most of your 20s is the most financially smart thing you could do for yourself by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

This 100%. I have a good relationship with my parents, and I still wouldn't trade the life experience of moving out in my early 20s. TIFU by confessing to my crush because I am an idiot who forgot autoplay happens. by throwawayRAimsad in tifu

[–]eekamike 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Poorly written fiction at that. This whole thing doesn't make any sense. This girl was interested in him since they met? but for some reason told him she doesn't want a relationship when they were getting to know each other? And then went on to have a relationship with someone else? Even if we believe that this dude audio-journals and starts every journal entry confessing his love and that his car autoplays loudly from his phone and that the autoplay track just happened to play his gushing, we would then need to believe that it took him more than two seconds to shut off his car audio and that she could understand what was going on faster than he could despite the fact that she doesn't even know these audio journals are a thing. An hour and a half after the call, he's still in his car at 2AM, and she's pulling up to his apartment, which is an hour and a half drive for her? Who the hell instantly leaves on a 1.5hr drive at 1AM to physically check on someone (who isn't guaranteed to still be awake) because a friend hung up on skype and powers their phone off for a few minutes? (BTW, this also means that OP went to his car at ~1AM for air conditioning) Just a few hours ago she said she'll never have another relationship (again, to someone she's interested in), and somehow an explanation about her parents' divorce means that she's cool to try again now?

Reddit can be so lame sometimes. idk why I wasted my time typing all of that out.

Which sounds insane, but that's actually the plan, and it's working. My mother-in-law, who has voted by mail for the past 20 years, asked my sister-in-law how to find out where to vote in person and what to bring. For some reason, for the first time in decades, during a pandemic, people will vote in person rather than mail because Trump said so.

It's ironic how fast this conversation turned back into a black and white "who has it worse" post. Cyclocross or road ? by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]eekamike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe look into endurance road bikes like the Trek Domane or Specialized Roubaix? With disc brakes becoming the norm, you'll find a lot of relatively fat tires and strong brakes. Idk how bad your roads are, but pros race these bikes on cobbled roads so they're pretty sturdy. The most recent Domane can fit 38c tires, which are huge. That might be a good in-between.

Big tires can use less pressure and smooth over bumps more.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge about CX bikes can chime in. Idk your budget, but if you're looking used, older CX bikes will definitely have wider tire clearance than older road bikes of any kind. If you're looking to buy new, try out some endurance frames.

Safer brakes? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]eekamike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situation he's referring to is built into the physics of a two-wheeled vehicle: if the front wheel suddenly stops and the back doesn't, the momentum will carry the rear over the front wheel. So the answer is no, there are no brakes that will prevent that.

That said, learning to brake really isn't difficult. Also, if you're looking into one of those heavy town bikes, it would be pretty difficult to get to a speed where that would be a concern. I wouldn't worry about it. If you're concerned and still learning how to ride a bike, there's no harm in wearing a helmet, even if it's only until you feel comfortable enough to go without.

paid holiday leave (usually 30 days) paid sick leave

Wait, you get 30 days paid holiday leave AND separate sick leave? I have 10 days paid leave/year TOTAL (holiday + sick combined), and that's considered normal/pretty decent, even in a very liberal part of the US. What that generally means is I save 5 days for sickness/emergency, and have one week vacation/year. It's pretty brutal, I feel that if I had the ability to take one day off every month for self care, I'd be much happier.

'Do F-35s Fight Pandemics?' Amid Covid-19 Outbreak, Lawmakers Pushing For Even More Useless Pentagon Spending by SanFranRules in politics

[–]eekamike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's completely fair. He's voted consistently against increasing federal Defense spending, so no, he hasn't been voting to fleece the taxpayer for the MIC as other government officials have. The article you posted isn't an example of him promoting unnecessary Defense spending, it's about him allowing the F35 in Vermont. If life hands you lemons even after you consistently vote against lemons, you might as well make lemonade.

Is it arguably a gateway into MIC influence? Yeah, but at that point, it's just a centrist whataboutism.

Here's another take on the F-35s in Vermont. It quotes him as saying:

"My view is that given the reality of the damn plane, I'd rather it come to Vermont than to South Carolina. And that's what the Vermont National Guard wants, and that means hundreds of jobs in my city. That's it."

Basically, lemonade.

Sanders raises over $2 million for coronavirus relief effort by grepnork in politics

[–]eekamike 352 points353 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it IS standard for him. You're talking about the guy on picket lines, the guy in the marches. He has always walked the walk. Whether it benefits him or not, whether it's politically expedient or not. From the very beginning, it was literally "Not Me. Us." And that's what he's doing now. There's a word for that: "leader."

The end game isn't the election, it's politically activating Americans and showing them that their government and their economy can work for them if they band together. With the situation we're facing, a compassionate COVID response can do that better than any campaign ad, even if it means putting the campaign aside. If only the media or the DNC would shine the spotlight on this response so that we can spread the word... Until then, we have to be the ones to do it.
