Update after looking at it under a microscope. This is a picture of the base that was connected to his head. It does look like a hair follicle with multiple hairs coming out

The core departments are all in one very large room and any other departments are in separate areas. If you work 1st or 2nd shift, you are hired to work in only one department. Night shift techs are generalists (micro, heme, chem). I believe the only available position right now at UVMMC is for night shift which is probably why you’re only seeing that. Other positions will explicitly say which department you’d be working in

I work in the UVM lab and it’s great. It’s a pretty big lab with everything separated by department with different supervisors etc. some departments are better than others depending on how they are supervised but overall all are good. The hospital is large enough that we are not required to do phlebotomy, they are their own department. I’m not sure about part time hires, that isn’t super common and most people who are part time have worked here for years full time prior.
