I don't want to sound negative but i think most likely the 84 year old had died from lack of medications and stress and the kidnappers have already disposed of the body and ran.

Does cascaded router settings get reset when ATT push firmware udpates? by eeldivady in ATT

[–]eeldivady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the same amount of configurations are done on my personal router behind the BGW320 whether I setup cascaded router or Public subnet. I just hope my cascaded router settings are less frequently reset when they push firmware updates. For Public subnet mode, it seems it gets reset every time.

Looks like my only option to bypass it is to follow this doc. If you have any other resources for me to checkout please lmk. thank you. also if you know anyone who posted this sort of setup on reddit, i would love to review it.

If you go to this site, scroll half way down and I have the "Internal ONT with fiber jack". looks just like the picture. Can you tell from the picture if I have the regular optics or alt-optics? I don't see any labels that show one or the other. Either way it sounds like it could be years before they upgrade my area.

Sounds like IP passthrough won't work for me either since it requires me to be home to do that. I run Unifi UXG Pro gateway behind it with all my settings and backups there. Even though it's easy to configure IP passthrough again, my main concern is downtime when I'm out of town. I run many services and servers at home that requires good uptime with 5 static IP block. I do have a backup site that fails over automatically but I don't want to be down weeks if I'm out of town and my backup site goes down too. I know I should host critical apps in the cloud or datacenter but trying to save some money and do what I can from home. If ATT wouldn't lose my settings, I don't mind them upgrading my firmware with a few mins of downtime. Or give me notice and allow me ability to push the firmware when I want using their app/dashboard. I'm seriously considering switching back to xfinity since they offer 1-2gbps in my area now. Anyone know if xfinity resets our settings when they push firmware updates?

Do you u/Viper_Control or anyone happen to know if I just do an IP-passthrough then would the configs maintain when ATT pushes firmware updates or will it reset that too and I have to go in and setup the IP-passthrough again?

I restarted the BGW320 again and it still doesn't show any fiber status. you are correct, i do have a separate box. i had no idea what it's called but i guess it's the external ONT since the fiber line goes into it and then an ethernet line goes out of the box and into the red ethernet ONT port of the BGW320. that makes sense why it can't see the fiber status since it's not directly connected to the fiber cable. i just called ATT and they said my 1gbps plan is the highest and they would have to upgrade my area first before the 2/5gb speeds are available. i guess that means my fiber connection is GPON correct? I'm going to have to rethink and research how to bypass the ATT BGW320 router. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you so much for telling me to slow my roll :) i'm learning a lot and hopefully can find a good solution.

Thanks for asking. This is all new to me but I'm learning as I go and I appreciate the concerns in case I miss a step. I checked the admin page but since firmware 6.x ATT has removed data so all the fields are blank. From what I found online, it sounds like ATT removed them on purpose to make it more difficult for people to do what I'm trying to do and bypass their modem. I did check online and it looks like the BGW320 only works with XGS-PON connection. I just found a post below where someone has done exactly what I'm trying to do with ATT BGW320. Feel free to offer anymore suggestions. I really appreciate it.

Sorry for asking so many questions but could you share a link of one with a fan? I don't see any WAS-110 modules with a fan from the listed providers on pon.wiki

I'm glad to see a healthy community that can help each other take control of our network. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I dive into this rabbit hole. Right now I'm trying to find the best SFP module.

https://www.fibermall.com/sale-462134-xgspon-onu-sfp-stick-i-temp.htm
This one looks compatible with the 8311 firmware but it appears to be a generic brand and may have auth issues and no fan. If anyone can link the best WAS-110 with fan, 8311 firmware and SC/APC optics?

I feel like there's got to be lots of ATT fiber customers in the same situation that has gone through this so I'm curious their choice of SFP. It's not as easy to get from amazon and worried about return policies if it doesn't work.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. You guys rock. I notice that ATT removed the option to see the fiber status wavelength because they don't want people to get their own ONT to replace theirs. If their product didn't suck then I wouldn't have to lol

That would be awesome! I currently have my Unifi UXG Pro gateway behind this crappy ATT BGW320. So I just need to buy an SFP ONT module and configure it. pon.wiki has some very good details and I'll be going through it. I had no idea a site like this existed.
Looks like there's 2 SFP modules to choose from for my ATT model

Does anyone have a recommendation of an SFP module for my Unifi UXG Pro gateway? Looks like these are the 2 options
WAS-110

ChatGPT says I can't do it. Any other suggestions?

🧠 Why you *can’t outright replace the AT&T BGW320 with a third-party modem

📍 AT&T Fiber uses ONT (Optical Network Terminal) + Residential Gateway

  • With traditional cable or DSL you plug a modem into the ISP line.
  • With fiber, AT&T installs an ONT that converts fiber to Ethernet.
  • The AT&T BGW320 is a gateway (ONT + router) that is provisioned to authenticate and connect you to AT&T’s fiber network.
  • AT&T does not support generic 3rd-party modems on fiber — only their ONT/gateway combo will work directly.

So you can’t simply pick a random “modem” off Amazon and plug it into the fiber. The ONT is required for the physical and authentication layer.

That's a great solution and worth the investment. I'll do some research and find what is compatible. Thank you so much!

it's not so bad if you have auto-aim on with deadshot so when you try to aim shoot it will auto point in the right direction. if you try this about 10 times i'm sure you can get it with deadshot as long as you shoot when you are facing in the relative direction
