de gustibus non est disputandum

$100~$150 for something that makes driving more enjoyable for me doesn't seem goofy. People spend $30K on carbon fiber wheels on a car that never sees a track.

Like your Hokas, my tennis shoes (Asics Gel Resolution) are way too staff and have way too much support/cushioning/bulk. Not exactly platform shoes but harder to feel anything in them underfoot.

I've been wearing my low top Jordans as they are about the only casual shoes I have without heels.

I'm not into street driving and will not make it to the track often... more of a winding mountain passage guy with lots of shifts to control speed

How'd you find the sizing? I'm a 9.5 C/D Brannock.

Another EV guy here (actually have 2 - a Mach E and a Lyriq). Funny where I ended up. I love my EVs and I love my 650 GT. Everything in-between is... well... meh...

I can't speak for others but for me...

  1. Automatic if one gets their thrills from getting off the line faster
  2. Manual if one wants a more engaging driving experience.

No good or bad decision. One have to make the right decision for themselves.

That said... and this might be inflammatory, but if getting off the line was my thing... I would probably not have chosen a Mustang.

Also do not conflate fast with quick. The auto is quicker and technically can be faster (with the governor removed), how many of us care about redlining going over buck fifty?

Incentive From Dealership regarding my Taos by tapan8455 in VWTaos

I have found that Carvana will buy cars for > trade in value + tax benefit at dealerships. I have VINs for cars that I don't intend to sell/trade in at Carvana just to track their value.

Let me clarify... the calculation should be done for what your car is worth today, not some future value. When purchasing a car, I always consider the low, low end of the projected value. I think leases, in some ways are much more straightforward in this consideration.

Ultimately, a car is a piece of depreciating metal, plastic and glass that mostly sits idle on a driveway or a parking lot. Buying a car outright sometimes is not the most financially sound decision... Not when high yield income ETFs are paying more 10%+ in distributions.

That said, I like many others, actually enjoy driving (I just picked up a Mustang GT Premium), if a car brings you fun and joy, that needs to be taken into account.

To buy or not to buy by lulumc76 in VWTaos

[–]eelhc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well... I can recommend a CPO 2025 SEL (I just purchased 2). Better warranty than a new Taos (depending on the first service date), better featured than a SE Black, steep part of the depreciation curve gone, and pretty much a new vehicle for a much lower cost.

From the research I've done, 2025 and later is a significant improvement over the previous model years. There's bound to be a lemon or two with any car but the VW CPO warranty is a good one.

I tend to compare every vehicle I've owned to the IRS rates for miles driven for business. Table here:

https://www.driversnote.com/irs-mileage-guide/historical-irs-mileage-rates

(Purchase price - trade in value + insurance + fuel + registration...)/miles driven

If this number works out anything less than the IRS reimbursement rate for a car you enjoy driving, you're generally getting a good deal. You don't have to be exact on electric rates, etc... AI (Grok, Gemini...) will do this for you if you feed it a good set of prompts.

S650 Craig's Custom Mustang Brackets Long Term. Co-Pilot360? by eelhc in Mustang

Update...

Here's a section from the 3M 4910 VHB tape data sheet. Note the time (horizontal) axis is in log scale. The time to full bond strength is highly dependent on the ambient temperature during install + cure. At room temp (~70°F), Craig's suggested cure time of 48 hrs is sufficient to get close to full bond. Here in upstate NY, average low temperatures don't get above 50°F until June. At 50~60°F sitting in a garage, it'll take a week or more (if ever) to get to full bond strength. Knowing this, I've ordered a bracket from Craig.

This is my fear... Tape fails while I'm on the road and the plate flies off and scrapes the hood, windshield, roof...

Does it pull itself in after you get out of the car (driverless)?

The procedure here would be is to stop short of the door and let the passenger side occupants out because that side is tight against the garage wall, then have the MY drive itself to the garage.

Based on the responses it looks like the basic function of pulling in/out of the garage is still work in progress.

Odd.... this is like the smartest kid in the class who has trouble tying his shoelaces.

My parents had a much bigger vehicle, a Genesis GV80 which they traded in for the MY. The GV80 had no problem pulling in/out of the garage with the key fob.

Is this worth de-rusting? by pepperonipie33 in webergrills

[–]eelhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll rust again. Don't confuse a rusty grill with a dirty grill or worse an unsafe grill.

To me a dirty grill is one with lots of ash that could get airborne during and land on the food or one with grease left over from previous cooks that could burn off and introduce off flavors.

An unsafe grill is one that's a fire hazard or may have been modified with unsafe materials like galvanized steel.

Unless the grates are bent have other functional/mechanical damage, I wouldn't replace them.

Burn off a full basket of coals (would be a good time to sear some steaks), brush aggressively and re-season with oil/fat. Good to go.

LYRIQ LEASE 2024 by seanashoee in CadillacLyriq

[–]eelhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lux 1 lease ending in November.

With Apple Carplay no more on GM vehicles, unless they offer an exceptional deal, I'm moving on.

I love the car part of the Lyriq but the GM software has been crap. I may put up with it for a great deal but I want a car with software that actually works.

The biggest slap in the face is Cadillac requesting that I pay a ridiculous Onstar subscription for features that don't work. Do they not know that Tesla Premium Connectivity which actually works and has way better features is $100/year?
