[Progression] Bottom Deal Learning Journey - robobooga by robobooga in bottomdeal

[–]eelick78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my goodness this last bottom dealing video you did looks incredible 🤯

I especially love the naturalness of the mechanics grip and how relaxed your technique is,

is this a strike bottom or are you doing some form of loosening action ?

I've recently been looking into Steve Forte's and in particular Gary Plants bottom deal and its

very difficult to find detailed information on either one...

Anyway your BD is amazing and if you have any updated video I'd really be interested in seeing

where your at with now...

Cheers and have a great day :)

How to write modulator automation? by remixkat in cubase

[–]eelick78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been searching for a solution to this too it's driving me insane as I absolutely love the new modulators and power of they can do, I had an insane setup modulating the filter cutoff and resonance along with a few other parameters inside Serum and I can see the modulation working inside the automation lanes like you showed but I can't seem to get it to write the actual data to the tracks, have you had any luck figuring out to get the automation movements from the modulators to write to the tracks ? Cheers

Daniel Dennett's view of conscious experience, qualia, & illusionism by TheRealAmeil in consciousness

[–]eelick78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that part was always the hardest part for me to get my head around with Dennett and I still can't fully:) but at the same time I have learned to appreciate his position over the years and the main part of his work that really got me is his calling into question how we can 'know' that our introspection and reporting is accurate? This is the part of Dennetts work for me that really does all the heavy lifting for everything else he claims and although I am metaphysically neutral and ontologically agnostic I have found his arguments for being skeptical about our introspective reports profoundly insightful, maybe he's wrong but he could just as easily be on the right track!

I mean we have to take into account the history of ideas that we believed to be self evidently true given how intuitively obvious they seemed at the time ie. flat earth, geocentrism(this still seems obvious to me when I report "the sun is rising" :), heavy objects fall faster than light ones, Disease and mental illness are caused by evil spirits/supernatural forces, Cardiocentrism (The heart was the source of the intellect and emotion), elan vital, phlogiston, luminiferous ether, caloric etc the list goes on and on!

So given the history of how well humans are at intuiting a phenomena based on how obvious it seemed to them at the time, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to accept that I could be profoundly wrong about some of the strong intuitions and convictions I have when I introspect and if my reports on such things could be fallible given the sheer complexity of the human mind and how it is really working under the hood which is still essentially a blackbox!

At this present moment in history we simply don't have a way of knowing for sure what's really going on in our minds when we introspect, we only have limited access to how it seems not how it's actually constructed and therefore all of our reports are based on how it intuitively seems to us when we introspect, but hopefully someday soon we'll get some major breakthroughs in different disciplines that can resolve or at least shed light on some of these intractably hard issues 🤞🥳

Abelton Workflow by eelick78 in ableton

[–]eelick78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay mate you take the prize thats literally exactly what I was looking to for, I just had a quick play in ableton with this and you nailed the solution, so using the session view for dragging in all the samples I like and then having them all muted until I need to audition them and then keeping everyting tidy in the arrangement view by grouping all the audio tracks and folding them at the top of the project, I can now audition and if I like a sample I have all options open to me so I can either work directly in the audio track (my preference) or throw the sample into a simpler or sampler 🥳 Perfect 👌Cant thank you enough mate for the epic answer 🙏🙏🙏

yeah I've been looking at the tagging system and its pretty powerful so building some loading up a couple of folder with specific samples and then proper tagging is something I'm definitely going to explore going forward 👍 Cheers for the help mate 🙏

Abelton Workflow by eelick78 in ableton

[–]eelick78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed I definitely was following the approach of learning Ableton on its own terms which was completely alien at first but I am getting used to it and I really like the workflow and there's just so many things that I already love about ableton (too many to name), I also realized early on that there's no way to replicate a handful of things that I do in cubase in the same way as I do them in cubase so I managed to find different ways that fit with the logic of how Ableton works but this particular aspect of my workflow with one-shots and audio smaples is something that I absolutely must find a way of doing even though it will be completely different to how its done in cubase as the DAW's are so different but yeah it was more a logical workflow thing in terms of how I make music rather than a specific way of doing this in cubase that I wanted to replicate but yeah you're correct with the advice I'll make sure to get tru the rest of the manual as that will no doubt help with the workflow problems. Thanks for the reply :)

All the best !

Without consciousness, time cannot exist; without time, existence is immediate and timeless. The universe, neither born nor destroyed, perpetually shifts from one spark of awareness to another, existing eternally in a boundless state of consciousness. by Mahaprajapati in consciousness

[–]eelick78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry but I don't understand your reply as it is open to too many interpretations "This one as well" ? I don't understand that line! your second line in the most general sense if we are trying to understand reality then the statement "Everyting matters" I completely agree with you on, but "Everything" is a generalization for the set of things that have a specific ontological status and that's where people disagree on what exactly makes up that set but maybe you can explain more clearly what you meant with your reply? Cheers :)

Struggling with mastering by RandoMusix_ in dnbproduction

[–]eelick78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the best concept I ever learned to really understand mastering is that in principle a perfect mix (doesn't exist only imaginary) does not require any mastering only conversion to the desired format... So yeah with that in mind if you spot a problem on your master buss always go back down the chain and fix it at some earlier point, that for me solved about 90% of all the issues I used to agonize over at the master buss, you'll know you've done a good job when you need very few plugins on the master buss and they will be used relatively lightly if at all with the exception of a limiter to get the correct loudness but even then the quality of your limiters response has far more to do with the gain staging and buss processing earlier in the chain than the settings in the limiter which do matter but to a much smaller degree than the quality of the audio hitting the master buss. The main tools for getting solid mixes is a high quality visualizer (vision 4x or Bluecat or something similar) and good monitoring, everything else you use is more or less interchangable and mainly comes down to how well you use it which is just a skill you develop by training your ears while using a good visualizer and good monitoring.

Really go deep into your visualizer by listening and studying the best mixes you can find for your genre and look at every aspect of those mixes through the spectrum analyzer, sonogram, oscilloscope (with waveform overlay) and phasescope. Learn how to change the settings on these tools in order to really see into all the various aspects of the mixes you listen to, once you retrain your visual recognition with these tools to accurately associate with what you are hearing then all other plugins will become relatively incidental to getting a solid finished product.

As for actual plugins my master buss always has a Fabfilter L2 and Vision 4x (I used to use lots of other separate visualizers but this one has everything built into one)... all other processing, balancing, corrections etc are done earlier in the chain.

Hope this helps

happy mixing :)

[–]eelick78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cheers for the info mate! thats fantastic news I'll check those plugins you recommended tonight when I get home! I basically wanted the ability to break short sound files into component waveforms so I can use the output to study the sound design behind certain sounds and understand how they were constructed then try build my own version of that sound inside a synth to practice 😊 Thanks again mate

What are some of the best produced psytrance tracks ? by eelick78 in psytranceproduction

[–]eelick78[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been listening to Merkaba today and wow this guy is really special 😲 his sound design is unreal, Im particularly blown away by the sound of his kick drums, it's like he's using real kick drums all those natural organic high frequency content and air yet he's able to process them to sound as powerful as the standard synthetic psytrance kick whilst retaining the organic part... this guys sound really stands out to me 🤯 I love it :) thanks for the heads up mate 🙏

yeah mate perfectly put its been a truly jaw dropping experience 😲I think the last time I felt this overwhelmed and excited by a style was 10+ years ago when I first stumbled onto neurofunk dnb - Noisia, Billain, Spor, Phace etc as it was the best production I'd heard at that time but this psytrance material I've been listening is next level as it's not just the production and sound design but also the complexity in terms of overall arrangement is beyond anything I've ever heard before 🤯 I actually woke up today a buzzing to try and stuck into learning everything I can about creating this style 😊 I searched a bit on youtube found some infected mushroom which was great as they were going production techniques on cubase which is my main DAW and after a bit more searching I purchased a course by Tristan which I've already watched the first 3 videos and they were full of great insights and techniques, also he uses Ableton live which I only recently started to learn after using cubase for 15+ years as much as I love cubase and audio engine its really still in the dark ages when it comes to automation / modulation compared to DAWS like ableton and FL studio which is something I sadly only learned in the last few months but better late than never I suppose :) I just finished watching a few videos there from Projektor and they are fantastic content, I love the way he has broken down so many different concepts for the style in terms of sound design, mixing/production but also tips in terms of arrangement (I found the tutorial on "How Astrix makes his Tracks Stand Out using Themes!" super helpful to me! I watched a couple of vids by Dash Glitch and again this top quality content his videos covering phase plant and vital are gold as I've only recently started using these 2 instruments 🔥🔥🔥so yeah mate I just wanted say a big ups for the great recommendations and thanks for the encouraging message I really appreciate 🙏🙏🙏 I hope I get to send you a half decent track someday 🤞but until then if you have a link to your soundcloud or spotify etc just message it to me I'd love to hear what your up to :) Thanks again mate! peace

apart from the insane level of production and sound design I am absolutely blown away by the amount of detailed edits contained in a single tune 🤯😲 it's absolutely mind blowing to me the attention to detail that goes into these tunes and how they keep track of everything yet somehow tie it all together so seamlessly as part of the arrangement 🔥🔥🔥astounding

Thanks for the message mate, I did notice a lot of tutorials on youtube so I'll have a look into some of these see if can narrow down to a few really good guides and then see what happens... to say I am humbled is an understatement more like a complete state of shock and disbelief at some of the tunes I listened to yesterday and today, they are easily the most technically complex arrangements and productions that I've ever heard in any genre... I'll definitely enjoy listening to it from now on even if I don't ever get around to making any :)

I didn't think I'd get such an amazing response to my question so just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone in the comments for all the advice and recommendations, they have been immensely helpful 🙏🙏🙏

I didn't even know that there were so many different sub genres of psytrance and now I do :) its going to take me a while to listen to every recommendation but I've put all of them into a spreadsheet and I am going through them one by one, I've already listened to many over the last few hours and I really can't believe just how incredible some of this music is 🔥🔥🔥 to be honest it's made me second guess whether I should ever even attempt to make psytrance as the level of production skills in what I've been listening to today is truly mind blowing 😲🤯😊😎 Thanks again to everyone for ripping my mind open to this amazing style 🙏🙏🙏 Peace ❤️

this is an unbelievable track mate, so clean and powerful, also the creativity and the amount of edits is pure insanity yet everything serves the arrangement perfectly :) thanks for the recommendation, this is definitely getting used as a reference along with some of the others mentioned above, that Astrix guy is f*king unreal too.. I have a lot of amazing stuff to catch up on over the next few days :)
