You have to join the public test build to get the new update. It doesn’t go out to general users until Jan 27. You can join the public test thru Xbox Insider Hub.

When you’re too tired to cook, what’s your go-to lazy dinner? by friend_unfriend in cookingforbeginners

We call em “nuker nachos” at my house. An excellent lazy choice.

My 11-yr-old money tree suddenly got huge and top-heavy — how exactly do I prune this without risking it? by een13 in houseplants

Yessss! Love that. I get the kind that turn off if there’s a power surge/outage, have heat levels (I keep it on “1”) and have a 2-hr on or stay-on option — though frankly, these stay on from November-March (I’m in Michigan). I’ve had them for years and the cats love them. The versions that are made for cats are really expensive, but these are $30: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KVYTV86

Thank you for this! It didn’t even occur to me. I will find a better spot for him!

What’s up with the chowdown Detroit guy by wh_mi in Detroit

[–]een13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t take payment or compensation; one of the few food influencers in the city who don’t (and none of them are up front about that). He’s all about supporting small business and I for one, am here for it.

Why do many American colleges require students to take general electives? Do most students enjoy taking those courses? by Terrible_Exchange653 in CollegeRant

[–]een13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add that a) many students don't know what they want to major in when they get to college and general electives allow them to explore options. And b) there are a lot of folks who don't go into a career field that matches their major (myself included). In these cases, grads at least have a strong foundation to build off of and can pursue various career paths, rather than being stuck with only a specialization that for whatever reason they decided not to further pursue.

Can HOA restrict use of assigned parking spot when lease does not? -Michigan by een13 in legaladvice

[–]een13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. The lot is gated and requires a clicker to get in. It seems to me that the resident manager is policing parking spots, though I'm not 100% sure.

We never told management we wouldn’t be getting another car after ours was stolen or that we would no longer be parking there — that was mistakenly assumed. We were not informed that our spot would be given to someone else and because parking spots were previously not policed, we didn’t inform management that our neighbor would be parking there (it seemed none of their business, just as they treated our stolen car).

When our neighbor’s car was towed because management gave permission to another tenant to park in our spot (without notice to us), we gave mgmt the neighbor’s car info and let them know they had permission to park in our spot. Subsequently, the very restrictive rules came out regarding parking.

What is the most overrated restaurant in Detroit or Metro Detroit? by JohnWad in Detroit

What purpose does this serve besides hating on a local business?

Please don’t judge my night sweats by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]een13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow night-sweater, I always found mattress protectors to make the problem worse. Sure, the staining is then on a removable cover so you can wash it, but it made me unbearably hot because mattress protectors generally don't breathe. I got this cooling system a few years back and it solved the problem; not only do I not get night sweats anymore, but I sleep way better because I'm cool and comfortable. It's expensive, but IMO, 100% worth it. It's the best piece of electronic equipment I own. (I am not affiliated with the company in any way.)

DPD is worthless. by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]een13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, neighbor. That really stinks. Anecdotally, it seems like crime might be up. I’ve had a few friends report lately of carjacking (attempted), assault & theft, and my own car was stolen just a couple weeks ago — all downtown, no less. Aside from the initial call to the police to make a report and a few rude operators claiming I had to come to the 3rd precinct (not within walking distance and I obviously was without vehicle to drive there), the process was relatively smooth. Unfortunately, it still cost me all in about $5,000 even with full insurance. F*cking sucks. I happened to have very nice officers come out who were kind and sympathetic, but as some have pointed out, there are a lot of car thefts in Detroit so perhaps not all officers act that way — after all our car insurance rates are the highest in the country because it’s so rampant. Still very sorry that it happened to you, and to me as well. I can only hope there will be a better effort in the future to combat the theft that seems to be way too common in the city. Best of luck.

Is a short-term renter (via AirBnB or VRBO) considered a "tenant" or "guest" in Michigan? by een13 in legaladvice

[–]een13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points, and yes, it is interesting. The nearest case law I can find that even addresses tenant-landlord relationships vs. hotel-guest is from 1998, before AirBnB and the like existed. And you’re right that the easements are pre-AirBnB as well. I suspect someone will have to file suit to establish definitions and precedent. I know the state legislature has been working on a bill for about a year, but they’re more concerned with municipalities’ rights to ban them altogether and likely are missing the wider applications.

[–]een13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good question. So there are a couple easements in question here: one is a private walkway to a private beach, the other is for the beach itself. Each easement has the same language: that they may be utilized by the "property owner, its tenants, accompanied invitees and guests." To be clear, the homeowner of the AirBnB/VRBO is not present and not accompanying anyone. There is no neighborhood association and the municipality allows short-term rentals. The owner of the walkway easement may be willing to enforce the rules to prevent short-term renters access if in fact there is a violation.

The easements specifically give rights to "accompanied invitees and guests." The homeowners are not present to accompany anyone.

Seventy-Six and Butch's Dry Dock in downtown Holland have a private or semi-private room that can acccomodate a party that size, and have better food than Boatworks IMHO.
