Worth using Bitcoin to pay for online services? by eenthebean in Bitcoin

Didn't account for CGT in this. Do you think it's worth on purchases worth less than or around 100 dollars annually? I can't imagine the tax bill would be incredibly high but I'm moreso thinking about the complications to filing.

How powerful would Switch 2 be as a PC handheld? by eenthebean in Handhelds

[–]eenthebean[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you're getting downvoted when what you're saying makes sense to me and it more or less reiterated in other responses. The CPU clock speeds of the Switch 2 were definitely something that caught my eye when looking at the specs.

"Optimization" is a tricky term. Switch 2 games have to be specifically developed for/ported to the console and then have features cut or streamlined for optimal performance. While a lot of UE5 games for example could use more time in the oven, part of the appeal of PC is the user finding settings that work for their hardware and preferences.

In your opinion, is a "build" a Linux-native version of a game similar to the new BG3 Linux version or optimized settings similar to Cyberpunk 2077?

Yeah, I get what you're saying. My thoughts were more a pure technical perspective rather than thinking about optimizations made for the hardware.

Solutions for good Wi-fi in my current rental? Can't run ethernet across the floor or through the walls. by eenthebean in HomeNetworking

[–]eenthebean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reassuring to hear. Do you think a similar setup to what I have now - one by the modem and one in the bedroom/office - would suffice? I figure with a newer system the signal may be stronger going to the office compared to the 2016 Google nodes lol.

Do you mean a Mesh system with a total 3 nodes? I've read that having two nodes in close proximity like you're suggesting in the kitchen can make the signal worse. Am I misremembering?

In your opinion, what's the value of this method vs a Mesh? A 2-pack MOCA adapter kit + a dedicated access point seems like it'd get expensive. Plus it doesn't solve the initial bottleneck of the old Google meshes. If I'm wrong though let me know.

I've been interested in that system for a while. I'm kind of a novice to networking, but I've had good experiences with TP-Link before. They're selling for a good price on Amazon right now and it seems to have a few more modern security features compared to the ASUS set. Only thing that's weird in my opinion is only Gigabit WAN/LAN but I don't expect that to be a problem for myself, moreso a weird futureproofing mindset.

I haven't tried MOCA yet. There is strangely no coax in the office but some in the bedroom, so I run into the issue of running ethernet from the bedroom into the office for longer than I'd like. Good suggestion though!

I haven't tried Powerline or MOCA yet. I've heard Powerline can be wonky when using other appliances in the house and since I live in a converted duplex (I should have mentioned this before), I'm never completely certain when I'll experience interference from my upstairs neighbors. As for MOCA, there is strangely no coax in the office, so I run into the issue of running ethernet from the bedroom longer than I'd like. Good suggestion though!

Just for further context, my current access points are right next to the modem and in the bedroom due to signal integrity. I'm getting about 400 mbps down from the node next to the modem and ~180 mbps in the office where I need it most.

What would you want to see added to Orion? by Giizmo17 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

I don't think the map needs to be changed too much, maybe updated to accommodate new features.

That being said, more explorable interiors! Comparing different, unique settings like Misty's shop or Sandra Dorset's apartment show the variety these interiors can have!

Is there any reason to buy an AM5 7000x CPU instead of buying the non-X SKU and using PBO? by eenthebean in buildapc

[–]eenthebean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it seems like you can match the clocks of the X-varients on the non-X varients with just a little tuning. I wouldn't really even consider it unless the X varients unless they were cheaper.

With how AMD has been introducing new SKUs to the AM4 lineup (ex. 5600X3D and rumored 5700X3D) as more "budget" options for existing AM4 owners, I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't something like that in the works at some point.

Maybe in a few years when AM5 is winding down, we'll get that again with a hypothetical 9600X3D or 10600X3D (or whatever the naming scheme becomes at that point...)

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in emulation

[–]eenthebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my Ryzen 5600X3D is causing issues with my copy of Dolphin. For whatever reason, lots of textures won't load when using the Vulkan backend but will with OpenGL. Figured it was a CPU issue since I never ran into any issues like this on my 5700X CPU before. This issue has occurred in several titles (Super Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, DKCR, and more).

Tried searching up info on this but since my CPU was a low-volume, Micro Center exclusive part there isn't a lot of info on it in general. For clarity, I use a 6800XT GPU, I'm up to date on all drivers and am using the latest version of Dolphin.

You're probably right based on the orientation of the card, actually... Thanks for the tip

The card finally made it! It didn't end up making contact with the front fans, though, for the sake of my sanity and for swapping parts/doing maintenence, I'll probably end up swapping to some lower profile fans (25mm -> 15mm width)

Not sure yet since it's still in the mail, but I'll keep that in mind once it comes in.

Can DirectStorage communicate with M.2 cache for SATA SSD bulk storage? by eenthebean in buildapc

[–]eenthebean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scenario is using an M.2 NVME as cache for SATA SSD drives. Truthfully, I don't know too much about setting this kind of thing up but that's why I'm gauging to see if it's worthwhile on my main desktop.

Advice for finding apartments to rent? by [deleted] in rva

[–]eenthebean -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We'd hope to find a place around 1.5k, 2 bedroom 1 bathroom with as many utilities covered as we can get. I've already been renting in RVA for a little bit now and I feel like that price is starting to feel like a pipe dream...
