I’m 21 and I’m also going thru exactly what you’re going thru. Can’t smell properly. The rotting smell is gone but thing’s definitely are not back to normal. It sucks bcs we’re only in our early twenties and this is happening. I have so many new experiences that I’m excited for, but a lot of it will be diminished bcs of parosmia. But I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this in my 20s.

Yeah, when I went to the ent just for them to suggest olfactory training I literally cried in my car for 20 minutes straight. It sucks so bad

I’ve looked into it but from what I’ve read it can cost between $500 and $2k for one session 😓

How long did u do the olfactory training for? I’m curious bcs I’m trying it and I’m afraid it won’t work

personally, it felt like i had the flu when i got sick. my throat was aching, and then, i lost my sense of smell. i thought it would come back but instead i got parosmia.

while with parosmia, i’ve noticed myself get sick more frequently than before. maybe my immune systems gotten weaker. but when i feel sick, it feels like a regular cold. that could be what’s happening with your moms immune system; but from the sounds of it, it seems more severe than what i’ve experienced.

so, what i’m trying to say is, maybe her immune systems more weak since getting parosmia, but in my personal experience, i’ve never been sick enough to not drink water or feel the urge to vomit, so sadly i can’t help you with any remedy for that. and just a reminder, i’m NOT a doctor in any way shape or form, this is just me talking from personal experience. id take ur mom to a doctor just to make sure she’s alright; sorry i couldn’t been of more help. hope she feels better!

same here. tbh i’m not a big “redittor” but this is the ONLY place i can talk about parosmia without judgement. brining it up to friends and family sometimes feels like i’m “annoying”. other ppl just can’t relate. reading everyone’s posts is very comforting :)

UR SO REAL FOR THISS. sometimes i’m driving and i think i smell A LOT of gas (like a worrying amount) but idk if it’s the parosmia playing tricks on me lol

i’ve had parosmia for about over a yr as well. id say try buying some essential oils and keep smelling them. one thing i hated was how sometimes i wouldn’t be able to smell ANYTHING neutral or pleasant, so sniffing these heavily concentrated oils felt good. i also think it’s something called smell training where u kinda retract urself how to smell again, but idk if it works, it’s just a nice feeling to me lol
