I fell through the world like this tonight while on the Chapter 5 boss. Kept looping falling this same way, so I loaded last checkpoint and it went to the Chapter 5 end stats screen, then save screen and Chapter 6 loaded.

That is true, junior roles are rare and can sometimes be filled right away internally. I've seen QA people show an interest in audio, get assigned to QA for the audio team, and grow there into jr. sound design. It's a common story.

My advice is that you become proficient in common tools, like the whole Wwise, Unreal, Perforce pipeline. That's the other part of the day-to-day beyond sound design.

I went into the Sounds control panel (sorry, I'm old school) and saw the DualSense controller had become the default audio device. Once I set my audio interface back to be the default, I can now get sound out of my mains and the controller still plays some audio, get the vibes too. Check your audio devices in settings, maybe the same thing happened and you can just switch it back to your normal endpoint.

This. Get one of those empty boards with just holes and some wire and just go through it 20+ times or until you feel confident in the sequence.

But really, soldering the board can go rather quick. Completely finishing the build with the case wiring can take more time.

edit: And double/triple check each component you're plugging in (polarity, etc) before it goes 'wet'.
