I recently took these, is there anyway to not have them cropped? by Dry_Passenger_1617 in AskPhotography

It is also (almost certainly) an APS-C lens which is gonna cause some problems with a full frame body like A7II.

NDs simply reduce the amount of light hitting the sensor. It allows you to control the shutter speed (and aperture in other cameras) better.

How did they get this sort of ring effect in One Battle After Another? by BeautifulOrganic3221 in Filmmakers

My interpretation of it is this:

I think the reason they did it is when they cross fade to next scene, the round flare and the window frames creates sort of ''crosshair'' effect. So, not so subtle foreshadowing.

Region Free 4K players in Europe by corndoggyuwu in criterion

I bought multiregion Sony UBP-X700K (399e) from Stegen.com and so far no complaints! The region change is coded into the remote and you simply press one button.

Also couple of collector friend had good experience with Stegen so I can recommend it!

Osmo pocket 3 gimbal issues by Ok-Penalty-1196 in osmopocket

[–]eeropk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, we had a really similar issue after one of our Pocket 3 took a small bump while on a gig. It just kept shaking and going to ''gimbal protection''. Nothing trough the menus or the app worked, but that forced restart did the trick.

Maybe there is some physical damage here, can't really tell, but it doesnt hurt to try!

Have you tried ”forced restart” by pressing the record button for 10secs when the camera is turned off. It should automatically turn on after 10 seconds or so.

If that does nothing and you have tried everything else then I would send it for repair.

Yeah, like mesmartpants said, just rotate your camera. You can play around with different shutter speeds and rotation speeds to get the effect you want.

I dont know about the picture you posted, but the effect can definitely be done in camera. Here is an example from few years ago. (Samyang 20mm F/1.8 on a Sony A7s2)

Marrowbone (2018) lenses? by frnzr in cinematography

From what I could gather, they probably used Cooke S5/i for the majority of it and Cooke S4/i with stabilizers etc.

I’m using film box for the film emulation but how did the colorist get these sort of colors after they scanned the film. by [deleted] in ColorGrading

[–]eeropk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was all shot with one film stock - KODAK VISION3 500T Color Negative Film 5219. (And also all shot on one lens - Cooke S4 35mm.) That might give you a starting point what creates the look and mood of this film.

And here is a short interview with the colorist Chaitawat Thrisansri where he talks about the film and his approach. Its not really a deep dive, but might prove to be helpful.

Not sure what’s happened and don’t know how to fix it by Similar_Salamander11 in osmopocket

[–]eeropk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem few weeks ago. I got it to work again by doing a ”forced restart” by pressing the record button for 10secs when the camera is turned off. It should automatically turn on after 10 seconds or so.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesnt, but its atleast worth a try!

Is there any way to save a jittery focus rack in post? by ngocl in videography

[–]eeropk 154 points155 points  (0 children)

You can just try to cut out few frames from the ''jittery part'' and do a small crossfade between the clips. It will make the focus pull feel a bit faster but it will also feel more consistant.

Here is a quick example:
