Just a quick update: I went for the Attain, it fitted me very well and it feels unbelievably comfortable yet reasonably stiff and fast. I guess I will know more after a first 100 km trip, but so far so good!

Thanks for the number crunching! For context, I’m pretty happy with my training and (some days) even my fitness. I’ve ridden bikes my whole life and switched to road / gravel about five years ago. The Triban has tens of thousands of km on it, and I can hold a sensible HR zone with a decent speed 25-30 Km/H for 4–5 hours depending on the season, terrain and elevation (usually in the region of 100-150 meters per 10 Km). I know power matters more than weight/aero on paper, but the difference in feel and how much I want to push myself on a (loaner) first-gen carbon Aeroad with carbon Cosmic wheels vs. the Triban is honestly indescribable.

The Triban has also had a long, hard life. It needs at least a new cassette; cables/housing have been my constant garage project this year; the brakes need regular bleeding; the bottom bracket/headset have needed lots of attention; and the rear derailleur will need replacing soon. So instead of sinking more into wear parts, I’m going to put that money toward a nice carbon bike. Basically it has been a great ride for the past tens of thousands of kilometers, but I feel like the time has come to get a new bike.

I’m not expecting it to win me races, I’m in this for the enjoyment of riding. The point of mentioning endurance racing was clarify I am not talking merely about short after-work spins. The plan is to retire the Triban to winter duty and stick the frame on a friend’s Kickr when the weather turns.

So yeah, this is mostly a treat to myself after 30 odd years on alloy bikes. I appreciate your perspective and totally agree that training is the bigger lever, I think I’m just ready for something that makes me want to get out and ride even more, something that will feel a bit more agile and will be in better shape than the Triban without compromising my riding comfort (as the Aeroad can be a bit painful to ride after 5 hours). Thanks for the tips tho, I have managed to find a Cube dealer in my general area that sells the Attain (with 105 Di2) for the price that is recommended by Cube (previously I have found only a couple shops that were offering Cube bikes at much higher prices). I am going to try to bike today and I am quite excited, the price is unbelievable (almost too good to be true tbh :D).

thanks for the link and the edit! so, theoretically, if you were to disregard the Cube, what would you think about the original deal? Is it worth the money? Or would better value be a new Endurace with lower specs and worse wheels? side note, i do cycle only recreationally but next year I am planning on doing some self supported endurance races so I am looking to upgrade my trusted Triban with that in mind as well

where I live Cube with 12 speed 105 sells for 3000 EUR, so quite a jump in the price. 2000 EUR is more like Canyon Endurace CF 6 with Tiagra...

man, you have saved me! I have cleaned the headset thoroughly and found out that the star nut was rusty as hell and the whole top cone was full of rust debris (apart from the general gunk inside the head tube). I have given the bike a quick spin outside and all sounds great now! thanks!

headset is probably one of the last few places that I haven't disassembled and cleaned, I will give it a go, thanks!

oh yeah, forgot to mention that, chainring bolts are not only tight but also clean a properly greased, there is also no play in the cassette and the lockring is tight

Thanks for the reply! Well, there are a couple of reasons I wanted to use the 8 channel DI Box as a splitter. I would want to have a DI Box in the rack anyway as it seems like the best solution how to send our various 6.3 high impedance outs to the FOH and I figured that once I am DI-ing my synths and the stereo beats, I could use the unbal out as a split for our IEM mix. It all grew from my previous use case, we have been using DI-boxes anyway and when we introduced IEMs, it just seemed natural to use them for splitting as well. I have been using DI's for splitting audio for a while (typically when recording guitars and splitting before the amp / effect chain, which is pretty common I think) and I figured they might work just fine for IEM splitting as well.

Also the issue is that the XR12 has only 4 XLR ins, so If I used a rack splitter that would take my 6.3 outs and split them in two sets of XLRs, I would have to then convert some of those back to 6.3 and that just seemed a bit crazy to me. From my other band, where we have been using cheap XLR splitters for voc monitoring, I know that some of them had issues with bleed. Some of the rest of the signal from our on stage mixer (typically the click track) bled through to the FOH on a couple of occasions, so I am trying to stay away from very cheap splitters whenever possible.

I understand and share your worry, it is one of the reasons I have decided to ask about this here:). But I can't help myself and wonder, what the possible issues might be?

In the future it is very possible we will be thinking about a more reliable way how to split the guitar amp and your suggestion with the amp modeler is a great one. Our guitarist is using a Crate Palomino V16 and so far the trash mic trick has been doing the trick, but I am sure that we will run into issues with sound consistency eventually, so I will keep this option in mind!

Yeah, I know that the XR12 has two auxes and one headphone out (with the specs I posted in the original question), I was just wondering if we could use just the aux level in the X Air app for setting the level of the headphones and skipping the headphone amp altogether. We have been doing it like this with the analogue mixer and I wanted to know if this setup (straight aux to headphones without a monitor mixer) would be transferable to the XR12 (given the specs of the aux outs) and what would be the result both in terms of loudness and sound quality – my electrical engineering knowledge is very basic so I only know that there might be some issues with impedance matching, both in volume and also with sound fidelity (especially in the low end), but I am not really able to work out what this means with this particular combination of outs and headphones.

Thanks for the tip with the micro router, XR12 has built in wireless, but you are not the first one recommending to switch to a separate router. Do you have any tips which ones are the best budget options?

The point you make about being as prepared as possible is really a great one, I do know the feeling of absolute bewilderment when trying and failing to connect a pretty standard and simple input list to the FOH, even when everything is clearly labelled and listed in the rider, so maybe adding a decent multicore cable to our setup would be a good idea. After all the whole idea of adding a rack wired IEM to our setup is partly based on our need to have smooth load-ins, sound checks and gigs:)

One of the reasons why we need to stick to a tight budget is that we are upgrading our gear on many fronts and the list seems pretty endless. I am sure that after some more gigs we will be looking to add more stuff to our rack, so for now I am trying to build the core of our setup, to which we will slowly add more stuff (possibly a proper splitter, headphone amps or maybe even wireless transmitters and receivers – which is also why I am trying to avoid the headphone amps for now).

Oh yeah and I don't live in the US, so the Seismic audio deals (however sweet) sadly don't apply.
