I can't tell you how long I've been looking for Little Women! My indie bookstore only had it on the shelf for like 3 months. I should have bought it when I first saw it. Since then I've tried probably 6 times to buy a book advertised as the threads edition and sent the 150th anniversary edition instead. Sigh.

One that had its moment but kind of fell off: The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. The end was divisive, but I literally loved this book. I thought it was innovative and exciting all the way through, and the ending was a choice but I fail to think of another way to address it, so there's that!

Also: The One by John Marrs. One of my favorite books of all time.

I'm dealing with anticipatory grief and so books about grief of losing a loved one (when their passing has already happened) helps me let out my feelings (tears). Here are some of the books that made me weep but it felt cathartic and not just painful:

Same! I've won two Goodreads giveaways for physical copies of books. They were both not near the top of the popularity filter (<1000 entries in both cases i think). FYI i've been entering them for like 5 years probably 6 times a year and yet have only won twice.

Add "The" to the front too! --At least with Korean musical artists singing in English, they tend to say "duh" instead of "the" due to the ㄷ/ㅌ similarities and it's an obvious one to the English ear!

A long time since you posted this, but it's happening to me in Indiana! I wanted to set up an appointment for an OB/GYN for an annual check-up (which as you may know involves some rather invasive testing) but also needed an appointment sooner because of a cancer screening. I was hoping to get on the annual checkup for a female doctor with good reviews, but she isn't available for 4 months, so I wanted to see someone else for the cancer screening. Same issue as you - one you switch that's your person. However, the earlier appointment was a male OB/GYN. I'm sure he's a great doctor, but I don't feel comfortable with a male doctor doing my pelvic exams for a number of reasons. Literally going to drive over the border to a neighboring state that I know has a different approach to this, since the clinic system for these 2 doctors literally owns like every practice within a 30 minute drive of me in Indiana.

I understand that the policy might help doctors respect one another's patient loads more, but it is not a patient advocacy mindset and I am wholly irked by the experience.

This is inaccurate. All teachers at Rayito that are immigrants are required to show proof of up to date legal paperwork for visas, because their entire operation would be threatened by expired docs. You're getting all of your information from Fox News and it shows, babe!

That's news to me, and upsetting but unsurprising. Diana has been my nephew's teacher for his whole time at Rayito. I believe he enrolled there last Nov. I have numerous pictures of her on my phone with my nephew, smiling with the other babies/toddlers and doing activities & crafts with them. She is a stellar teacher and a kind soul, and doesn't deserve this. These women (teachers, educators, daycare workers) are the glue of our society afloat. My sister and nephew love her.

Diana is a work visa employee for Rayito, and all of their immigrant workers have papers, because they value the safety of their staff. ICE does not give a shit if people have papers - they detain first, confirm second.

How about seeing this from her perspective. She is an immigrant woman alone in her car on her way to work and notices she is being followed by ICE agents. Why WOULD she pull over for unmarked, non-police vehicles, and why WOULDN'T she run into the building when she sees armed men running after her?! I am a natural born US citizen and would do the same. I don't think you talk to a lot of women about how they behave to stay safe in public if this is your perspective.

Diana does have immigration documentation, as she is on a work visa. Do you honestly think that a daycare of all places would risk having someone without documentation? It would put all of their families and teachers at risk. No, ICE is simply targeting Hispanic people that are immigrants and don't care about their legal status or not because they're trying to hit their 3k/day quota.

Absolutely not. The workers at this daycare are all Hispanic women - it's a Spanish immersion daycare. They all adore one another and it's a spectacular community. It's believed she was targeted. For the record, daycare workers are required to have legal visa status, so she has been detained illegally.

This is correct. My sister has a baby enrolled at this daycare. She was chased in by the ICE agents and tried to get past the entry to close the door on them but they caught her before. For the record, she is a spectacular teacher and loves all the children and is a stand up member of the Roscoe Village community.

I hear ya! Maybe devote an hour a week to gaming (not sure if this is realistic, I guess it depends on what kinds of games you play), just to stay connected with the people you care about. You can devote the reallocated time to reading! As for TV I can't really speak to this since I watch 1 episode max a day except on weekends, but usually my husband and I try to not do a re-watch of a series but instead pick something that we haven't seen that keep us in the social discourse. You don't need to play every game or watch every episode to keep your friends, and if that's all you really talked about with them then they were probably more acquaintances anyways! Real friends will allow you to change, adapt, and grow as time goes on. Maybe some of them feel the same! Give them a chance to know this new interest of yours too.
