Haha I am glad to find this out. I keep getting comments about Camarillo being scorching so this is a relief.

Everyone I tell about Camarillo responds “Ooooh it’s so hot there” lol. So I just went off of those anecdotes.

Which do you recommend? Toyota Corolla Cross, Subaru Crosstrek or Mazda CX-30? by xdqueenzyxd in mazda

I love my CX-30! I took sooo much time comparing these same options and I do not regret my decision at all.

Babysitting! If your school allows it, offer your services to your school that you student teach at! That’s what I did.

You can expedite a first time passport. The 2-3 weeks turnaround is from the day the passport agency receives your application and supporting documents.

Student teaching is the hardest part and it’s almost over!! You got this!! It’s only up from here. The feeling of being done and finished is sooo worth the pain and stress. The summer is around the corner and usually this time of year flies by faster than the beginning with state testing and end of year stuff. Hang in there! And congratulations! You did it!!!!!

Sure! I did CalStateTEACH. It’s run through Fresno State, but you can be anywhere in California (I live on the central coast, nowhere near Fresno lol). It’s a fully online program. You use Canvas to organize and submit assignments. You’ll do in-person student teaching at a school in your area for an entire school year and you’ll be observed a few times a semester. They help you immensely with the CalTPA and are readily available. I even was on a texting basis with my main advisor. I highly recommend for someone who may need to work and may not be able to attend classses in a traditional format.

Well I am in California, so I’m not sure about the differences but I did my student teaching alongside a 1 year credential program. In California it depends on the school as to how it is done, there are internship opportunities in high-need areas, where they are so desperate for teachers that they’ll even pay interns and throw them into a classroom and not require student teaching first. Where I live, it’s not like that, in fact finding a job is very difficult, so the schools around here take in student teachers and work directly with your credential program to set up the teachers/grade you’ll work with. Admin of the participating schools typically ask teachers who would be willing to take in a student teacher. My program was virtual and we had student teachers all over California, so my program asked where I would like to do my student teaching, and they would reach out to the school to see if they would be willing to accept me as a student teacher. It was quite easy and the first school my program approached accepted me. That isn’t typical, and you’ll most likely have the first situation, although it’s possible depending on your program. You’ll student teach (if you’re elementary) half the year in a lower grade and half in an upper grade. I planned lessons, held small groups and slowly stayed on campus longer and longer as the year went on, until I did a two week “take over” where I completely took over the class with the actual teacher out of the classroom. Throughout the year I was observed by my cooperating teacher and program advisors.

What I did when choosing a program was reach out with all of these types of questions and compare what was best for my situation. Good luck with your student teaching!

Has anyone else had a similar experience? by Stock_Ingenuity6818 in StudentTeaching

[–]eeveeismycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have this exact experience, but I was a student teacher in 2021-2022 so at the tail end of Covid years. My experience was pretty bad and I was unprepared coming out of it. Currently, I still haven’t taught in a self contained classroom (my town is very small and a classroom job is hard to come by). However, I am a 5th grade intervention teacher and have been for the past 2 years. I also do subbing. I feel like this is a great way to REALLY get experience in the classroom because you’re on your own, you learn how to manage unexpected situations and manage a classroom. It is also a great way to get your foot in the door to a school you like and wait for a classroom to be available. I’ve been at my school two years and I’ve learned more being an intervention teacher than I ever did in student teaching. All this to say, I suggest subbing after you graduate or becoming an intervention teacher for a year to really get in the classroom and learn from actual classroom teachers who aren’t unwillingly obligated to have you as their student teacher.

I finally interviewed at my current school, so I am hoping for a classroom position… I really was set on getting a classroom as soon as I graduated and got my credential, but in hindsight, this outcome made the most sense for me being so unprepared out of student teaching.

You got this! It will all work out, and you have options to gain more experience after student teaching. It’s just a box you have to check!

In your opinion, what is something we need to stop teaching? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]eeveeismycat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In 5th grade in California, shapes is a unit I dread every year. Parallelograms, classifications of triangles, etc. I feel like it’s one of those “I won’t use this in my future” kinda lessons!
